i wouldnt be lol-ing, its a genuine point which you very well know is valid. now how much validity it has is a different issue. but it has some validity.

Freo did the right thing, they could have easily focused on Fremantle and alot of people wanted that and to f-off rest of WA. but they didnt. and thats why they have fans. don't like them but they did this one thing right. port adelaide cant afford to isolate any supporter s in SA. this is survival here. if you would rather go under than become more broad then so be it. but dont blame crows etc. perception is that port wanted the hatred, invited it and now its a problem.

You do know that 'Freo' is short for 'Fremantle', right?

Who's blaming the Crows ? And for what ? Our identity ?

Its funny... I LOL'd in response to a post questioning our identity, and you're having a crack at us for our identity.....the exact thing another poster was questioning.

Not going to get in a discussion on a tiresome topic and on your board of all places.

Anyway, hope we bring Walsh back home, and after a successful finals campaign for your sake.

Bring it back on topic people, or posts will be deleted. We're talking about Walsh going back to port here, seeing as Ebo will never leave. :p

What could Port offer him that West Coast couldn't?
I'm struggling to answer that one.
Leadership role, potential captaincy maybe?

He's well down the pecking order at WC. At Port, he'ld be a first line midfielder and perceived as the boy that came home in their darkest times. There must be a massive pull there with family and opportunity.

Hard to see him leaving a top 4 side for a bottom feeder though but I bet those are cards Port are playing .

I was questioning your identity in response to someone questioning ours. If we have no "soul", I can't see how you guys do.

Think Mop was talking about Walsh.

Walsh is a foregone conclusion at this point. Nisbett came out recently and conceded as much. If that's the case, Ebert is the only outstanding issue left for this thread.

I love Perth. 3 years behind in technology and 3 weeks behind it's own news.

We have a winner

Kids? Understandable. Money? if we really wanted to keep him we could up any offer Port could make though. With Ease I would have thought.

From what has been said in the media here, we offered Walsh a bigger contract then what WCE offered. Port have a fair bit of money around the club to finally splash around. Getting a coaching panel around Primus is numero uno

I would imagine we could offer Walsh a lot more money then port. However I doubt the club would offer more then they beleive he is worth. Everyone is repleacable and I look foward to the new coaches west coast bring in.

ding ding ding.

In saying that, I still believe Walsh is a very smart and good coach. But we would of had to pay over the odds to bring him back. Not like any Port fans are complaining though

I guess they just didn't want yet another soulless new franchise without a history or roots in the community other than the Johnnny come lately types.

If Port closes down their supporters walk away and you're then left trying to cannabalise the Crows supporter base to find fans for a new team. Not smart.

I know that it is very sad, but let's face it, half of the Port supporters have already walked away - they don't want to support an under-supported and under-resourced team that keeps on being smashed. And nothing is about to change. Even when they were at their playing best, Port struggled to pull a decent crowd. Reality bites - a lack of a support base = lack of funds and sponsorships = endless tough times. Soul won't pay the rent. And Port can't rely upon AFL handouts endlessly to dig them out of a hole. It is time to cut the losses and re-structure for the benefit of SA football as a whole.

A re-badged new SA club (replacing Port) will have a minimal impact upon the Crows. As with the Dockers v Eagles impact, there will be room enough to grow the new club to a similar size as the Crows over time. And let's face it, even Power supporters would also get on board just so that they can stick it up the Crows. It is not only smart, it is the only way the Crows will have any serious local competition on a regular basis in the future. Good luck whichever way it goes.

As diplomatically as possible on your board, most of your post is wrong. It's a sum negative proposal: Adelaide a club with the states colours, the capital city name and long term corporate support have dropping attendances every year since 2005 (until this year) losing 8,000 attendees from their average crowd. If Adelaide can't make money and is losing attendees, why would an Adelaide clone make money or have higher attendances?

Making the comparison between WCE & Freo to Adelaide & Port isn't quite that cut and copy. If Adelaide were as popular or as successful as WCE maybe Port would have the 'overflow' effect that has boosted Freo!

I think Port needs to re-brand themselves locally. They can still be related to the Port Power, however they need to start attracting the kids. Not all people in SA will be aligned to a SANFL team and therefore hate Port. These are the people they need to attract. The SANFL is dying anyway, their salary cap is too high, their teams are racking up debts and the SANFL is starting to lose its grip on the AFL licenses and associated revenue, particularly stadium revenue.

Freo has done a good job with their branding, apparently kids and chicks love purple, so that works well for them. I can't see too many people falling in love with teal and black. Freo has further enhanced their appeal over the years by 'editing' their brand. There is no reason Port can't do this and still keep their key Port Magpies supporter group.

They also need to mobilise this Port Magpies supporter group. They need these guys to get involved with the club and to attend games if they are going to have any chance. Plenty of people still watched the Dockers play even when they were shit. Again, no reason the same can't happen to Port.

So Walsh is going to Port then.

Do we know if Port are actually interested in making a play for Ebert? Wouldn't mind seeing the club at least try to snare Butcher with a player plus pick deal, however unlikely the outcome may be.

Would be perfect for the replacement of Lynch long-term though... :D

A) Port wouldn't give him up

B) With a forward line of Kennedy - Darling - Lynch we don't need him. True Lynch won't be around forever but Butcher will demand a game now, and I don't see Lynch getting ousted in favour of him. We've also got Lycett up our sleave so we're better off drafting a young tall this year and developing him until Lynch retires. Our forward line is screaming out for a crumber a lot more then another tall.

Unless the trade involves Pick 3 in some way we are better off keeping Ebert unless he demands a trade home.

It would be more likely they would offer up any pick they got for Butcher for Ebert.

Ebert won't be going anywhere IMO, he's done the hard years and now he is enjoying winning and will be looking forward to playing finals.

Oh, and Lycett will be the replacement for Lynch up forward in 2> 3 years.

So on 6pr Wosha says they want to keep Walsh and that Walsh is happy here.

Interesting, however still think the eagles will not pay over odds for him which port can but if we think he is worth it we will offer more...

So, sports radio in WA reckon Walsh is a lock to stay (even Woosha thinks this), while radio in Adelaide think he's 100% gone. Something has to give.

Going to be an interesting couple of weeks after the finals if we lose Burns and Walsh.

p.s 8 -2 wasn't pretty.
