Port v Freo

Yeah, you think you'd want to atone for the greatest shame in grand final history before cracking jokes about Ross Lyon.

Ken Hinkley knows as much about losing GFs as Lyon does anyway.

Actually, your the one flogging on about how successful Lyon is against quality sides in finals, I was just highlighting that it maybe off the mark.

You want to bring 2007 into it fine, we got done, not by Fremantle, but yes we gone done, probably shouldn't have been there. We do know what it takes to win them though, unlike your mob.

You've won one after the AFL railroaded your opponent the week before. And aside from that year you have a long history of choking in finals.

I reckon Port will roll them.
Freo have been shaky all year. Not sure they deserve top 4 TBH.

Sorry, did a Geelong supporter just comment about Freo not deserving top 4? Check your percentage. Then have a look at the games you have just fallen over the line in. And also the two against Carlton where the umpires helped you win. Of all the top 5 sides, Geelong is the one that doesn't deserve to finish top 4. Reckon they will go out in straight sets this year. Would love for Freo to be that side to help you hang up the boots for 2014.

You might want to see a doctor about that chip on your shoulder.
Geelong are not only top 4 - they are top 2. Could actually finish on top ;)
Have not lost a game in Victoria for the entire year.

Freo are a loss away from 5th.

The dockers have had a shaky year.
You got the mother of all hidings from the wooden spooners and got lucky against Carlton otherwise top 4 would already be out of the equation for you.

Geelong will be given the mother of all hidings in the finals, especially if they face Sydney.

At least we beat Carlton on our own merits. You had the umpires hand you both wins against them in the last minutes of each game.

Talk is cheap. Everyone knows that Geelong is the weakest side in the top 5. If Freo does finishes fourth, would love nothing more than playing Geelong in another qualifying final. If Freo finishes fifth, would love to help Geelong out in straight sets in a semi final.

Yes, talk is cheap. Freo had their chance to beat Geelong and seal a top 4 spot but they failed.
Now all you can do is whine.

Really? A freo fan trolling about premierships and grand finals?

Focus on your teams chamces on a flag THIS year, not on grand finals from last decade that you werent good enough to play in.

Umm, no. He was talking about finals. You brought in the rest.

I am focusing on this year. It's Port fans who want to bring up the past.

Actually the discussion was about Ross Lyon's long history in challenging in finals. And it was mentioned that "except in GF's" which is true - 0 wins from 4 attempts.

The discussion was about differing coaching styles.

Little rossy wrote the book on losing grand finals. Can't ever see this changing TBH.
Dunno about that, Hinkley was part of the Geelong encyclopaedia in the 80s and 90s. Was one of the key handbaggers - outside HBF who wilted when the pressure was on.

Sounds about right.

Lyon has coached losing 4 grand finals. To be fair - he's a pretty good match for Freo with their 'near enough is good enough' heritage.
Enjoy being smug while you can. This finals series will be a horror show for the Cats.

Freo need to make the top four first - then they can squeal about what a finals force they are.
Even if Freo doesn't make top four, I would bank on Port to atone for last year's semi, and Freo to meet you in second round. A repeat of 1997 is a distinct possibility for Geelong.

If Geelong finishes top, it almost doesn't matter who makes fourth. The finals series opens up for both fourth and fifth to make the prelims for the first time in history.

A finals lecture from a freo supporter. So cute!

Considering Freo have beaten you in the past two finals series and hold a positive winning record over you in finals, you should probably listen to Freo supporters on this matter.

We didn't beat a Top 4 side away last year until the finals. Anyhow, Port aren't a top 4 side. Against opposition who stifle running games they have no plan b and players like Polec and Gray who thrive on uncontested footy struggle. Freo by 5 goals.

Port aren't a top 4 side? They've beaten Hawthorn, Freo and Geelong this year. Lost to Sydney by a kick. But somehow they're not a top 4 side? Their bad form the past 6 weeks or so is irrelevant. Their best is more than good enough to beat any side in the competition.

To think Robbie Gray doesn't like contested ball is ridiculous. Over his last 5 games 57% of his possessions have been contested. Polec doesn't get much contested ball because he's on the outside. His deficiency is playing in wet weather because he tends to overuse the handballs and doesn't play wet weather footy. But winter is almost over, can't imagine it being very wet anywhere of the main venues in September..

The final score between Port and Freo will be a lot closer than 5 goals. Could go either way on Saturday. If Freo get up by 5 goals like you think they will it will be a marvellous effort. No Fyfe, no Barlow, having to travel back from Brisbane on just a 6 day break compared to Port's 8.

Why is it irrelevant? Sure, Freo dropped one game it shouldn't have but has still won 10 of its last 12 games compared to Port who have finally strung two wins together this week for the first time since round 11. Ports game last night against Carlton was fantastic; however your 7 games prior to that against Gold Coast, Sydney, Collingwood, Melbourne, Richmond, Essendon and Adelaide have been far from impressive.
