Key Matchups:

Kane to tag Thompson who is in All-Australian form. We know what he could do in terms of shutting oppositions down, but can his ball usage be effective?

Good luck Justin...

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm sure Matt Thomas and the Adelaide Crows Football club have been waiting for this day.

Last Meeting - Round 3, 2008:
85-79, Crows win.
Was probably the best game this season for spectators. Players were hard at it, and the game was intense. A major reason for this was because the umpire didn't get in the way.
Port was called soft, and then after this game were called thugs.
Westhoff tackled Ben Rutten in our forward 50 with about 30 seconds left which wasn't called holding the ball, so therefore we couldn't have a chance to kick the drawing goal.
Goodwin lead the Crows in goals with 3 that day.
S. Burgoyne lead the Power in goals with 4 that day.
Matt Thomas added Nathan Basset into his victim list with a fierce bump (which got reported).
Luke Jericho, Nathan Basset, Jason Porplyzia, Jon Griffin, and Bernie Vince all got injured at some stage during the game, but their team's courage helped them get across the line.
Bernie Vince was named BOG.
Among the Power's best were: P. Burgoyne, C. Cornes, Brogan, and K. Cornes.
Among the Crow's best were: Vince, Douglas, Bock, and Edwards.

Port Adelaide Power, 4-11:
Currently sit 13th on the ladder.
Tredrea missed the goal to win us the game against the Kanga's.
Choco has been playing the kids and sending some underpeforming senior players into the SANFL or to rest. He has assured everyone that Port are not tanking.
Ebert is close to re-signing with Port.
Travis Boak is out for another week with a groin injury.
P. Burgoyne has a hamstring strain but should be able to play.
C. Cornes has numerous injuries, including calf and finger, but still managed to play against the Kanga's.
Robbie Gray has an ankle strain, but could play.
Nathan Krakouer has a hamstring strain and will be out.
Steven Salopek should be back from his achilles tendonitis injury this round.
Toby Thurstans has a knee injury, and may be a week away.
Matt Thomas is questionable with his rolled ankle. Please be able to play.

Keys to Winning:
Find a way for Tredrea and Westhoff to get the better of Bock and Rutten.
Play with the agression that was played with in round 3.
Kick it long and direct.
Hit your targets.
Adelaide will flood, so be prepared to get physical.
We have a chance to hurt Adelaide's finals hopes, by winning.
Choco is Neil Craig's bitch. Find a voodoo.

Last 5 Games:
L - North Melbourne
L - Western Bulldogs
L - Richmond
L - Geelong
W - Fremantle

Adelaide Crows, 8-7

Currently sit 6th on the ladder.
Were beaten by Collingwood.
Scott Thompson was given a suspended jail term for dangerous driving.
Simon Goodwin has been struggling in the past few games.
Rhett Biglands is out for the season with another knee ACL injury.
Brett Burton did his knee in the Collingwood game, and will be out.
Jason Porplyzia hurt his shoulder in the Collingwood game, and will be out.
Jarrhan Jacky has a knee injury and will be out.
Brent Reilley also has a knee injury and will be out.
Andrew McLeod has surgery for his knee injury, and is likely going to be out.

Last 5 Games:

L - Collingwood
L - Geelong
L - Brisbane
L - Hawthorn
W - Richmond

ODDS (TAB):
Adelaide $1.72
Port $2.00

no trolling.

This Showdown is a bit of letdown.

There's no chance of any Port player kinghitting Brett Burton.

...... Who's next on his hit list? ......
Call me old fashioned but I find that coment to be in bad taste. That is the sort of comment I would expect from those bovine ferals at West Lakes. While the tackle on Hentschel and the bump on Basset were both fair I don't like to see any players seriously injured.

But then I did get a chuckle out of Porthos' post

I'll be at this game (one of the very few I will have seen this year due to a lack of Foxtel and a dearth of games in Victoria) but with little enthusiasm.

It's been a difficult year in which to convince my fiancee that supporting our club is a worthwhile endeavour. If I thought it would be any better, I would take her to a Maggies game. I might have to see if Port Districts are playing at home this weekend (are they at least playing well?).

Both teams down on form at the moment, safe to say it is the biggest game we'll play for this season.

Give em hell Matty.

He's probably faking his knee injury because he caught wind he'd be playing on Thomas this week.

Should i be flattered or alarmed or maybe both ?

Would be a pity if young Thomas is known mainly for his hits on players of the opposition teams rather than for any sort of footy ability he might have.

I actually believe if you can't win this one then Mark Williams has more problems than is openly known.

We are a side full of slow old men who will struggle to keep up with your fleet footed runners & most of our kids have hit a mid-season brick wall.

As much as you might dislike him Brett Burton had been in AA form so far this year & along with the Porp we have lost our 2 most prolific goal scorers.

Port to win by 17 points. :)

Don't worry.

His brand of tough but fair football will lead him to be scapegoated as an irrelevant thug one day soon by a precious and weak football public.

Byron Pickett comes to mind.

I thought the same thing a while back - that Matt Thomas was going to be branded in the same way that "Iron Byron" was.

Maybe we need a good nickname for him. My nomination is "Matt Finish" as in when Matt get you, you're finished!

If the cow supporters think Matty Thomas is tough, thank heavens they didn't see the likes of Marx Kretschmer, Bob Clayton, Kevin Salmon, Neville Thiele, Bruce Light or especially Ray Hayes play.

As a matter of fact, I'd love to see these guys out there against the cows, there'd hardly be a fruit tingle left alive, let alone standing.

Hmm –I thought the game may have been cancelled due to lack of interest

The semi-final was the ultimate showdown surely this is the showdowns equivalent Indiana Jones 4?

You’d think Port would be favourites considering current circumstances? Unless there are some interesting decisions at the selection table nothing is going to make this game exciting beyond the norm.

I just cant see Port winning. Not because we are going well because god knows we aren't. Not because our forward line is functional (because it isn't)

Just because Port are going really bad, far too many good players out of form. If I was a Port fan and Shaun Burgoyne or Chad Cornes played a blinder I think I'd be angry because you'd wonder why they haven't been playing with much interest lately

At the end of the day, match won't matter much because Port are finished for 08, and we are finished at any meaningful level in 08, finals still possible but..

Any danger of Asgardian coming up with a tough Port player born in the last 50 years?

How would the current Port side deal with Garry McIntosh?

Nathan Lonie vs Luke Jericho duel should be a beauty

You may be a bit of a cow boy up there in the Westlands Nodster but I wouldn't consider you one of the bovine ferals at West Lakes :p

Our kids hit a brick wall in round 1 and have never really recovered. Our old men are desperately in need of a rest or, dare I say, retirement and our middle tier players are behaving like plumbers.

Crows by 24.

I don't think there's much wind left in the port sail (if there was any to start with ) and the crows have more to play for, even if it is just to make up numbers come september.

The fact that we brought in an underdone chad last week and that we'll probably bring in an underdone sal this week shows that the bottom of the barrell has been thoroughly scraped to the point that there's a freakin hole in it.

Crows should win by default.

Heres a few.

Hynes, Hodges, Northeast, Leslie, Abernathy, Phillips, Poole, Wilson, Carr, James, Pickett, Logan, Lower, Thomas, Cockshell, Salopek, Kornes, Rodan, Tredrea, Bentley, Brogan, Thomson. Could be here all night, I think you get the picture.

As for Garry I'm sure Thomas would love to go Toe 2 Toe, Was a good tough player tho.

Thomas v Mcintosh you are joking aren't you? Macca by a mile. I rate Thomas from what I've seen at Norwood but despite some Port opinions he wouldn't have played 5 good AFL games yet. Needs to establish himself as a player first, I think he will

As for your list, fair mix there. Few Norwood boys. Fair to say Cockshell/Thomson/Lower/Logan/Bentley/Rodan????? may not have proven themselves as AFL toughmen

Salopek?

Not sure about Abba/Scotty either

Martin Leslie though..... I'm still scared of him

Garry and Matty would be closer than you think. And as for Matty establishing himslef as a player, cut him some slack he's had a torrid run with injuries, He's a Michael Wilson in the making wait and see.

And it would be fair to say that a great deal of adelaides current list top players are Port boys, McLeod, Thompson, Stiffy, Maric.

As for you not believing Cockshell/Thomson/Lower/Logan/Bentley/Rodan are hard footballers, you musnt watch many Port games, while on that topic if you doubt them blokes, show me who you rate as 'toughmen' from westlakes?

And if you think that Salopek isnt a hard player, explain why every second game he's wrapped like a mummy in bandage's.

You forgot David Granger aka Grave Danger!!! LOL ;)

David Granger commenced his football career in Victoria where he played under 19s football with St Kilda.

[edit] Port Adelaide(SANFL, pre 1997)

Dave Granger played for Port Adelaide in the SANFL between 1975 and 1982. He was a strong, skilled and effective footballer, becoming famously known by the nickname, 'Grave Danger'. This was during an era of unprecedented violence in the game and Dave was often employed by his coach as an on-field hitman. Over the years he dished out and received countless injuries on the field. Although played nominally as a forward Granger was often sent into defence to harass opposition star forwards. Opposition players often found themselves fearing Granger instead of concentrating on the game, a situation Port Adelaide exploited.
In the 1977 Grand Final Dave played a pivotal role as centre half forward in Port's 8 point victory over Glenelg.
In the 1981 Grand Final, also against Glenelg, Dave ended the career of Neville 'Twiggy' Caldwell with a premeditated King hit. He continued in the game to lead Port to a 51 point victory. After the match Glenelg protested which resulted in Granger becoming the first footballer in the SANFL to be suspended on video evidence. Granger was later to claim he initially believed Caldwell had died and was "terrified" by what he had done.
In the 1982 preliminary final Port were trailing by 26 points in the second quarter against Glenelg. Port coach John Cahill sent David Granger onto the field in the 21st minute of the quarter whereupon Granger was reported by a goal umpire after he King hit Graham Cornes knocking him unconscious as soon as they matched up. Cornes recovered quickly and was awarded a free kick. Cornes was later to blatantly push Granger in the back but the umpire refused to award a free kick. In the third quarter Glenelg back pocket Stephen Barratt had his right leg broken in a "collision" with Granger and Peter Maynard received a bleeding eardrum. Although credited with only one kick and two marks, Granger reportedly had "an eerie" effect on the game with Glenelg players hesitant to match him for fear of missing the final and considerable abuse from the crowd.
Port eventually lost the match by 1 point. As Port coach John Cahill walked down the stairs of the members' stand he was jeered by the Glenelg supporters in the crowd of 32,339 and David Granger had to be escorted from the oval by police. Granger was subsequently suspended for 10 weeks which ended his own career.
