As for Spike Mahney...Ive got the Port 84 video at home and in his first season he was a real livewire. Kicked 30 goals or so for the year, looked similar to Robbie Gray. Was pretty quick, massive leap, great goalsense.
Then he put on about 25 kilos and became an enforcer type in the forward line. Still played in a couple of flags. Was one of my favourites growing up.
Knuckles.... As for Spike Mahney...
Saw Wayne with Rohan Smith and a few others at Crown Casino the night before last years GF. He certainly hasn't lost any of those 25 kilos..... Then he put on about 25 kilos and became an enforcer type in the forward line. ......
Yes. Yes they did.

Maybe 8 minutes or so
Great Grand Final, Balme v Evans, Aish run down the wing etc. Dwayne Russell was a star in those days, not quite big enough for CHF in the VFL but I'm still surprised he didn't do better. I love watching Leslie belting Fosdike as Fosdike back pedals looking as scared as any man on Earth
Yeah that's all very interesting. If I had time I'd reminisce about moments from the 1988, 89, 90, 92, 94, 95 and 96 GF's before Port joined the AFL and won the 04 GF. How did Norwood go in those years again?
beat Port in 97 7 days after the Crows flag. That was a good week. Keating had 3 touches total in 2 games, 2 flags.
Apart from that we lost about 50 Prelim Finals

Yeah that'd be the Port Magpies, after Port Adelaide had joined the AFL. After Port leave the SANFL, Norwood make their big statements about dominating the SANFL. That all turned to dust and disarray too, pretty much on the heels of the 1999 SANFL GF. Tommy Carr on Andrew Pascoe. End of another dynasty.
yes, my mistake 98 v Sturt. 5 points to Jared Twitt. Cant expect me to remember all Port flags in my lifetime. I've been at every one since 77. Cant we talk about 84 some more?
A few other Crows players backed up for the 97 SANFL GF didn't they? I vaguely remember Troy Bond playing for Port.
