Pardon my non-punting ignorance on the matter, but how does somebody else get access to your account to place a bet?

Probably just used his laptop/tablet/phone. Passwords get saved all the time.

His story should be able to be proved one way or the other. The bet was placed during the game and not from Lachies phone and there will be a supporting text message from his 'friend' saying "I broke into your account and placed a bet against the doggies. Sorry. Lol". If none of that is true he's in trouble (as well as being a complete dumb ass).

Yeah fair enough but it's slightly different since, as far as I'm aware, your job wouldn't be on the line as a result of something one of your mates do on NBA League Pass. The players surely have it drilled in their head to be careful with betting, that would surely include providing access to accounts.

It could be as simple as they share a computer/tablet and the friend didn't realise it was logged into Lachie's account on the betting site until after the bet was made. Some betting sites don't even show your name when logged in but an account number. It still sounds really dumb and a stretch but more plausible than Lachie betting himself.
