Utter bullshit sorry. If he bet against the club in an under 12 game he deserves a career risking ban. This is just beyond stupid. The AFL has done a massive campaign on this, the AFLPA include vast tracts about it in their briefings. There is no ******* excuse for this. Would prefer he burned down a dwarf.

I am reaching very low tolerance at the moment. The board needs a long hard look at itself - buck stops there. Could they know about every action by every player of course not but this seem to be in a cultural toilet at the moment.

WHE/Carlisle/Shiel - bloody dreaming....

No excuse, I'm disgusted with his actions. Sorry he's a young man who has made a mistake, a bad one, but I can see how people could differentiate between real and pretend footy and make this mistake. So sorry I don't think it should cost Hunter his career.

I was concerned about Hunter doing something like this when he said before he was drafted
that one of his favourite things was having a punt with his Dad
& we all know that his Dad is no stranger to betting scandals

So depressing we don't want to lose one of our young stars especially after what has happened already but it seems inevitable.

I think I'm more angry because I thought of Hunter senior when the last load of this crap went on and mentally slapped myself for throwing Hunter junior in the same boat without trial or jury. Then this.....

There is just zero excuse. It's so bloody well publicised. It's so defined in their inductions and the risks and penalties are hammered home.

Hasn't just disgraced himself and sent us deeper into the mire but this is going to stuff our commercial team at a time they can't afford it. Some of our key sponsors aren't supporting us at the same level as previous, commercial business people won't be prepared to take a jump. I know, as my company was considering involvement and I can tell you now that won't happen - and we support Essendon!!

This is just utterly utterly aweful on so many levels. The board will want to get on the front foot when it can. What decent CEO would want to front man this crap???

This is exactly why the club will think about coming down hard on Hunter, regardless of what the AFL deems an appropriate outcome.

Mate I hear you, Gordon and management must be wrist slashing stage, its terrible. But I can't support the AFL rubbing him out for life. If we want to suspend him for a year and then trade him out....well....

Lets not go all silly here. This is a 20yr old who placed a bet on a practice match he wasn't even playing in. Collected, then self-reported (all allegedly). There is no suggestion of match fixing or insider information.

Based on that, most of you guys are willing to throw him under a bus. We need to look after our own a bit more and support them. Do you think it looks better to support Hunter and help him through or de-list him and wash our hands off?

Meanwhile, over at Bomber land, a 40+ year old coach entrusted with caring for a bunch of kids organises a systematic illegal doping programme. He gets a contract extension and paid holiday with nothing sticking to him.

Lol.

There is precedent in Australian sport.
Grant Brebner was suspended for two games in 2008 for betting against Melbourne Victory.

Key for those involved is to show genuine remorse. Cliché time but everybody makes mistakes, some bigger than others. The key is learning from your mistakes.

Sounds like it's not to bad the way Barrett just described it.

Fair call. I'm ****ing pissed but you make a valid point.

This then: Hunter = Giant Peanut.

My point about the commercial impact stands. Companies will run from sponsoring this crap. This will have far more impact than just Hunter.

Barrett's story isn't so bad. The VFL listed player is a bloody moron if it's true. Makes sense because surely our players aren't this stupid.

I agree with the sentiment, but the very nature of being a member of that team, means that you can't not, even subconsciously, not be match fixing or inside information.

As more than one person in this thread has touched on, he may have known that we were not playing a full-strength team before the bookies did.
