Clearly Bontempelli by a street then out Scharenberg, Lennon, the long haired dude With the headband, Aish then don't really care.

I dunno, I have this feeling that if Bontempelli is there at 6, he'll be there at 10. It looks as if we were trading up to trump GWS at 9, but now that they no longer possess that pick, we might be home free.

Pick 6, Collingwood: Scharenberg
Pick 7, Brions: _____________
Pick 8, North: McDonald
Pick 9, Dees: Freeman (not anymore)
Pick 10, Collingwood: Bontempelli

Now if it were Vossy coaching the Lions, we'd be home free..

Have not followed this draft like other years so I hope you can help me

If we land Adams I feel we need two types of Mids with our picks

Quick explosive mid who can go forward
Tall mid with exspectional skills on both sides of the body

Who would be the players that would fit this description?

Your quick, explosive midfielder would be Nathan Freeman who is in the mould of a Patrick Dangerfield.
Your tall mids with exceptional skills would be somebody like Marcus Bontempelli or Blake Acres.

I spoke to Marco today, he said that (and this isn't to sound arrogant on his behalf, because he's quite a shy, humble lad) if Collingwood don't pick him at pick 6, he said that the Lions have committed to taking him at pick 7.

For what its worth, he's a Collingwood supporter, and when he heard news that we'd gotten pick 6 today, he's really hoping that Collingwood select him at pick 6, although he's happy to go anywhere. He has a meeting with the Pies again next week, so i'll keep you updated.

Could this be why we traded into pick 6???

Thanks for the info Paige. I like the look of the kid and versatility is such an asset in todays game.

For some reason, I find myself a little unenthusiastic about Freeman. He has some good attributes but i dont know if he has the hurt factor i'd be looking for in a top 10 pick. Seems to bomb the ball a little often. Chances are though if we dont go at 6, he'll be gone by 10

I reckon it is sounding like Bomtompelli or Aish at 6. You certainly wouldn't cry if you got Aish at 6 with our Croweating young lads but lease Cronus, give us Bums.
Certainly seems to have the goods Spicey, mouth watering prospect of getting 2 picks from the best 10 youngsters in the land, with our development people ready to mould them into prime players :thumbsu:

Do you actually think he could become a permanent midfielder? Isn't he around 194cm? The only person close to that I can think of is Mundy at 192cm.

Scharanberg looks the goods, reminds me of Corey Enright, very tough and composed.
Freeman on the other hand does not impress me one bit, looks to hurry under pressure and will not get anywhere near the time and space he gets now when he plays AFL, reminds me of Sam Blease or Shaun Atley.

We would really have a decision to make at 6 if any of Aish, Billings, Kelly etc happened to slide to 6, especially if we are keen on Bonts by all reports.

Would we still pull the trigger at 6, even if someone else slid down? Would we bite the bullet and then try and attempt to land Bonts at 10 or would he not make it that far?

Going to be an interesting day come draft day.

KK looks super though. He would be amazing coming off half back. Looks like Grant Birchall/Luke Hodge with that left boot and grace coming off half back. What a lovely left foot.

He's been asked the "where do you see yourself playing your best football" question so many times, and it's always on a wing and resting forward. He reminds me a lot of Jack Watts (wait for it...) in that he is athletically gifted, has a big tank and is quick, covers the ground well, reads the play even better and his disposal by foot is first class. Terrific set of hands, and is just a sound shot on goal.

recruiting specifically, recruiters tend to look at what a player can develop into fom year 1 on a list, to year 5. A Collingwood recruiter explained to me their sort of process that they look at, it is as follows;

1: What has been the development in the player from U14's to U18's (eg: Height, weight, body shape, footballing skills and development, fitness etc.)

2: How highly rated is the player in their draft year (any playing honours, industry interpretations)

3: Measurable success - What is the initial measuring stick that tells us how good that player is and how their talent can be measured in years to come.

4: Current elite attributes; there is a scoring system Collingwood use, but he for obvious reasons didn't delve overly into that. But it's something to do with listing all the key fundamental attributes in that player, and ranking it for example out of 10, and then listing another set of attributes in line with the clubs needs, as well as those of the modern day footballer. A player has got to rank a certain amount of points to be deemed "draftable".

5: Raw abilities - those can be moulded are players of serious interest. EG: A player may have a lot of speed, defensive capabilities and strength overhead, but may lack in a 70+ Kick rating. For example, that player for us a few years ago was Alan Toovey.

Collingwood won't draft players, if they feel as though they are one dimensional, lack versatility or those that haven't possessed a great development in their game since say U14s to U18.

It's quite fascinating, but I hope that gives you some insight.

Although if one of them did slide chances are Bontempelli would have gone before our pick, I think Knight has GWS taking him with pick 2 so it's not a given that he'll be available.

I can't see Kelly getting to 6 but Billings and Aish must be a chance, whatever happens it's a bloody exciting position to be in.

At the moment the names Boyd, Aish, Billings, Kelly, Scharenberg and KK are being talked about as the top 6 (in any order except Boyd).

So it will be very interesting to see what Hine will do if 5 of those boys are taken before our pick and that leaves us with one of those guys and Bonty to choose from.

To be honest KK looks outstanding and I'd be hoping for him to slide to 6.
