In 2004 when Geelog v Melbourne at SKilled Stadium - Scarlett to something like 5 contested marks one out with Neitz - promting Garry Lyon (a man who has seen more of David Neitz than anyone) to say "I have never seen Neitz outmarked as often as I have seen Scarlett do (to him) today"

Scarlo has also outbodied just about every KP forward on the roster, exceptions being Nick Reiwoldt (who Scarlo couldnt keep up with and Roo's marks were all uncontested)

Yep Scarlo is incredibly strong, once again though - he doesn't exactly have the biggest arms going around does he?

I remember that game, while it isn't rare for Neitz to be beaten by some of the better FB's (though he absolutely poleaxes Rutten for some reason) he rarely gets outmarked, usually just spoiled.

Oh and Neitz got some back against Matty the following meeting when he kicked 6 on him at the G, outmarking him a few times too.

Went down easy as p1ss against Daniel Kerr and Nathan Carrol.

Pound for pound, he isn't that strong.

He didn't exactly go down when Kerr tackled him, just had his arms pinned to him while he stood there.

I might be biased but I would say Kerr and Judd. Pound for pound as strong as anyone in the arms and shoulders but strength in the hips and legs is what sets them apart :thumbsu:

Unless they dive on the ball themselves or are gang tackled you just never seee them brought to the ground :thumbsu:

They can shake tackles better than anyone apart from the absolute monsters and are just guns with awsome core strength :thumbsu:

And strength through the legs and hips is far more important than arm strength.

I can't beleive people are actually saying Gehrig - it's just idiotic.

Pound for Pund, Judd and Kerr destroy Gehrig.

Didn't Mike Sheahan mentioned in "On the Couch" a few weeks back, that at the Eagles, Judd was only behind Q Lynch in the leg press?

Rick James, read the title of the thread. Where does it say anything about core strength? Don't try to manipulate the thread to push your Neitz/Melbourne agenda.

Have all the crows fans left the planet? I was sure I was going to find a Van Berlo reference somewhere on this thread.

Dean Solomon has pretty big guns.

Err, it's about who is 'strongest' and I legs/hips are about 4 or 5 times stronger than arms. So every douchebag talking about who has the strongest arms is completely misguided. The people with the strongest core, pund for pound, fit the criteria of the thread perfectly.

I've mentioned Neitz a few times, still said he's behind Judd and Kerr though - are you saying it's easy to bring David Neitz to the ground?

Don't try to manipulate this thread into trying to make people believe you're not an idiot.

Like talking to a brick wall

Any man who calls another man, "Chicky", in a squeaky voice...well, it's just wrong.

Like it or lump it, Weagles, it's Gehrig.

Yeah let's be all masculine and call one of our players Wiz.

Read the thread title and think again.

You seem to think your the expert when it comes to "core" strength. Any chance you could enlighten this idiot on what your definition of "core" is?

Strength derived from the core of your body, hips/wasit/legs basically anything to do with balance, it's the most important aspect of strength.

I'm no expert, but you don't have to be to see how much more important it is.

You just have to NOT be an idiot.

Stability through the hips...watch how Robert Harvey moves and what he does when caught.

He was/is an instruction manual on how to stay upright in a tackle. At one stage he was almost undeckable...if that ball goes to ground it becomes a 50/50...if u stay upright in a tackle its 80/20 your favour.

He's a bit tired these days....but u can still see the stability...carries the ball in front of him and if caught his legs always seem to be spaced and braced.

Thats USEABLE strength...its not important whether Tarrant has big guns or who can bench the most.

Bench pres- what can the players bench??

What players can bench the most and some that can hardly lift the bar?

Hit the nail on the head. Don't have to have big arms to be massively strong. This guy is a freak. Superb athlete as he's super quick too.

Always beats Hall, Neitz, Lloyd, Fev, anyone. Let's face it, we all know he's by far the best full-back in the comp. Glass only got the gig this yr because his side finished on top and they thought they needed more WCers in the team as a result.

Scarlett consistently decides to outbody opponents and outmark them, rather than punch, a la Mal Michael, Glass, etc. And he's doing it against massive units at full/CHF.

Re: Bench pres- what can the players bench??

someone (who doesnt follow footy too well) told me he read somewhere that mick martyn could do 180kg and that buckley does 160kg. dont know if its true but this is what he told me.
