Power unveils clash guernsey

Just get them to wear the traditional black and white from the SANFL team for home games (excluding Collingwood matches).

This move is inevitable - whether it is 20 years time, 40 years time or whatever.
Port should be playing in black and white. forget the teal unless they need it for away games.

:thumbsu:I am not sure why they don't? That is one of, if not the best jumper i have ever seen!

Collingwood don't own the Colors and don't own the prison bars!

Port should wear the proper Old Port Jumper as above (or perhaps with silver instead of white?) and scrap teal. Wear a clash strip if needed in away games. Collingwood can wear a clash strip when playing Port in Adelaide.

I also liked the Freo heritage jumper with double red vee. Looked harder and more athletic than the current jelly bean look.

I wish more people thought like the posts above.

It's pretty clear to me that the average Victorian is intelligent and respectful of football history, regardless of what state it's from. You unfortunately have some clowns who aren't as respectful, and they seem to be the vocal minority most of the time. I suppose every state does.

Collingwood wore its 1892-2000 white-backed jumper in round 20 at AAMI, FWIW.

Ca'nt have two teams in the league with the same colours.

Of course.....which is why the new Gold Coast team has identical colours to Adelaide and almost identical colours to their home town rival Brisbane

Geelong/Carlton???
True. But they're worn extremely differently. Ports jumper is the same design as Collingwood.

Beside the point :p

You may be surprised but I agree Port should wear the PB jumper at home.

I went to the Carlton game in 2003 just to see that jumper in AFL bodies, and it was enough to nearly make me "turn". Nearly is still a long way from actually.;)

To the Power not Gay......

If the AFL is serious about Clashes this was the prime opportunity to have one. Port and Collingwood is a genuine clash.

I see you support Spurs? Bolton and Leeds also wear white?? What is your thoughts on that?
There's god knows how many teams in English soccer. There are only so many colours/designs you can have without looking ridiculous. We only have 16 teams. No reason two teams should have the same design.

fwiw, Port and Collingwood played a mid season trial game at Footy Park in 1992. Both clubs wore their normal strip. Very few mistakes were made.

You're saying we should play 30 games a year, and make it so players can't touch the ball with their hands?

Some have called for 30 games a year...

The point some are making is, why harp on about clash strips when you stop the need for it forcing a team to change it's guernsey on joining the league. Odd, considering the Gold Coast wear very similar colours to a few teams, and Adelaide was very similar to Fitzroy on joining the league.

The Port Adelaide v Collingwood clash was a clear and simple clash, and it seemed to be the perfect clash for the AFL to launch the idea of clash guernseys. We could still be called the Power, I understand the need to have seperate emblem branding, but we should still be able to wear our home colours and strip.

It works in every other professional sport in the world. Every other sport. All of them. Why can't it work in the AFL? As others have said, I think it's only a matter of time, especially with new teams coming into the league, that the AFL gives more freedom for clubs to wear whatever the hell they like at home, and force every single team to avoid clashes when playing away with a distintive clash strip. As I said, it works everywhere else in the world.

AND supporters that don't think a pair of white shorts fixes ANY clash

AND Club CEO's that don't get obsessively protective about their guernsey designs
AND only 4 teams who are a realistic chance of winning
AND moronic supporters who have to be segregated by riot police.

AND 1 team would have a budget bigger than our entire competition
AND is watched in every country on earth!

Seriously, if clash jumpers are good enough for Manchester United and Chelsea, it should be good enough for sporting minnows Collingwood and Essendon!!!

although i do agree that the AFL needs to take control on the issue of match-day uniforms, the above reason is one of the poorest offered by the pro-alternate strip fraternity. it's up there with the 'there hasnt been a problem for a 100 years' crap offered by those against it.
