That’s just unacceptable on so many levels. To lose like that there is something fundamentally wrong.

Footy smarts not a strength of ours and continues to cost us.

Sick of seeing the same old mistakes crop up again and again. Missed easy shots again and sitting back on a lead and letting and opposition take the game to us.

1) Bad kicking is bad football

2) The mentality of winning is very different from the mentality of not-losing or defending the lead ... we need to learn to be ruthless.

Sadly even when we were up by 40 there was a nervous tick inside me not convinced we had this ... stupid (if accurate) tick...

Let me get this straight, first game since losing the granny by a kick we bottle an 8 goal lead at home to lose by a point? And Coleman mightve done an ACL as well?

Spose it could be worse. Could've been a 10 goal lead.

I feel like we always give the older players first dibs to play themselves out of the team. e.g. Gunston, Rich, Lyons last time around...

Maybe this will be the end of the experiment (again).

Yeah it seems like that... and yes Lyons had his moments but he's still too slow and single dimensional.

But here's the rub. Lohman comes on and looks completely out of place. I feel like we keep going back to the old guys because the gap to the younger ones is just too big.

In reality Answorth or Prior or Robertson would have been better options. But we have this weird mix of sentimentality with some players and throw them to the Lions (see what I did there?) with others. I can't really figure it out.

Weird weird game. Couldn't play much better in the first and then struggled to win in the contest after that. Could have probably kicked away in the second if we hadn't missed some shots but that shouldn't have been an issue considering our lead.

Lyons was probably our most consistent midfielder with everyone else drifting in and out.

In: Henry Smith, McKenna, Robertson
Out: Payne, Lyons, Coleman

Smith to play forward/ruck while Dizzy goes back.

McKenna for Coleman

Robertson for Lyons.

While JL was decent tonight, the balance is not good with him in the team. Move him back to the sub and get Robertson in who has a LOT more flexibility and much better with his defensive running.
I'm in the Berry is no longer best 22, camp.

Most of the GABBA crowd can get in the bin, when we hit the front again in the last they panned to a section of the crowd and it was like it was freeze framed - no excitement, none standing up giving fellow supporters high fives, they were just sitting there. Took until 5 minutes to go before even heard the “LIONS” chant, before that there were a few episodes of the pansy “Brisbane clap clap clap”. Do better.

What are you on about? Everyone was mad crazy when we took the lead again.

Aren’t you the one who made a fourteen point post on how much the Gabba crowd sucks?

Berry has to be dropped. He was disgusting tonight. His disposal by foot was shocking, even worse than usual. Spearing inside 50 kick straight to a Carlton defender, kick straight to a Carlton defender deep in the last quarter when we were in front and the momentum was our way, followed up next disposal with a kick on the full. Just hopeless. He deserves to be dropped and be made to fight for selection.

Payne was execrable tonight. He has no physical presence and was murdered, first in defence and then in the forward line. He is another player that should be dropped. He played like a headless chook tonight.

Then we have a display of absolute football hubris from Fagan with his GENIUS MOVE of Gardiner forward. Gardiner is a great defender and like Lester, who was unbelievably good tonight, he gives 100% at every contest, every time. Both Gardiner and Lester fight and scrap and never stop contesting. The contrast with Payne is so very stark.

I wonder what LEARNINGS Fagan takes from this game.
