Port fans were laughing at us earlier this morning.

Maybe, Josh Rachele was rated the better player at U16's and never really had the opportunities that the other lad had after that.
OK xjamescleanx

I notice you yet again gave another post the thumbs down, perhaps you'd like to explain what is so wrong with the post.

Fair enough if you can point out what is not an absolute fact in that post.

Fact : Josh Rachele was Vic Country's M.V.P. and the Kevin Sheehan medalist for the best player from all states and teams at the 2019 AFL U16's Championships.

Jason Horne was SA's M.V.P but Rachele was judged the best player at the 2019 AFL U16's Championships not Horne.

JOSH RACHELE (Vic Country / Murray Bushrangers - pictured, second from left): Small midfielder/forward who was a prolific ball-winner throughout the championships, averaging 26 disposals, 4.3 marks, 2.3 clearances and 4 tackles. A clean ball-handler who is elusive and creative, he won Vic Country’s MVP award as well as the Kevin Sheehan Medal for the Best and Fairest player in Division One.

JASON HORNE (South Australia):
Medium forward/midfielder who captained South Australia and won their MVP award. Averaged 17.7 disposals (9 contested possessions), 4.3 marks, 6 tackles and 4 clearances across the championships.

Some pretty cluey Loueys on that judging panel.

SELECTORS

Kevin Sheehan (Chairman – AFL)

Luke Power (AFL National Academy Head Coach/Manager)

Troy Selwood (Geelong Cats)

Chris Liberatore (St Kilda)

Mitch Cashion (Hawthorn)

Leon Harris (Brisbane Lions)

Remember this guy kicked 6 didn't he?

Practice games mean nothing.
Hopefully no injuries that's it.
I remember mentioning Rachele 65M bomb against cats reserves at skilled last year and people suggested it was the wind and a fluke

Guess what ? He did it again today effortlessly

No fluke , the kid is one of the most talented players ( together with Thilthorpe ) we’ve drafted in a loooong time

Even with both sides at full strength and going 100% Brisbane would be a ten goal better side than us so probably the result is to be expected.

Outside Rachele not alot of positives, I thought Pedlar looked alright in patches. I am always a fan of Schoenberg and Crouch will be better for the run but not much besides that.

sh*t umpiring
sh*t commentary
sh*t camera work
sh*t conditions

That was well and truly a practice match.

Players I liked:

Hinge
McPherson
Rachele
Thilthorpe
Shoenberg

Ben Davis and Rowe weren't bad.
Ben Davis isn’t half as bad as people on here make out these days , definitely improved

McPherson and Hinge ?

Admit I’ve only seen parts of game so far

Nah not really. We had 5 players with 50+ games of AFL experience and one of them was on heavily restricted minutes (Crouch).

Conditions were terrible.

Preseason results don't matter.
It’s the kids first exposure at the level and he barely played for 2 years and was probably our best player

I reaffirm - means a fair bit

You would hope so.
2 of our highest ever draft picks should also be 2 of our most talented?

Well I actually did watch all the games ..and the practice game today.

As I said McHenry tries hard..dont get me wrong..but you seriously think he was "excellent" in the last half of the season?? Turning to the actual facts, he averaged 12 disposals per game from Rounds 12-23 (and if you take out Rounds 22 and 23 it was closer to 9 disposals per game), whilst at the same time averaging close to 3 clangers per match and with a higher free kick rate than his tackle rate. He also didn't make the Crows best players list once between Rounds 12 and 23...(for those playing at home..he made it twice last year...Rounds 1 and 11).

And taking your Crows glasses off, you wouldnt want to swap him for Duursma?
Ports recruiting and list management has been on another stratesphere in recent years.
Though last season I saw signs of improvement from our guys.

They are utterly tragic. Laughing at a meaningless practice match. Young team gets beaten up by an experienced premiership contender, shock horror 🤦‍♂️🤣
Welcome back my brother, hope you join us again in 2022 on here. :thumbsu:

Easily our best defenders today, Hinge will play plenty of AFL unless Will Hamill and Milera pull their fingers out.
I think McPherson showed in his last 3-4 games last year he’s going to make it after a poor first part of the season coming off a good one

Hinge probably only plays if Seedsman and Milera are both out but he’s nice depth and has a chance to cement himself

I’m hopeful re Hamill and Scholl but not confident

Hamills concussions have set him back and scholls contest work is being exposed more and more but he does have weapons so worth persisting if he’s in form

Ok so you admit they are great selections ?
I agree they're our most talented players because obviously at pick 2 and 6 they should be.
Great selections?
Debatable.
Great value? I still think Logan will be better than Tilly but Tilly should turn out elite as well. I wouldn't say Tilly at 2 is great value, its probably paying slight overs.

Rachele at 6 at this stage seems great value no doubt. Personally would've traded down for NWM and another pick in the teens. But at the time I said you can't complain with Rachele, who I think will be high quality.

McPherson, Hinge, Rowe, Strachan, Cook, Davis, Hately, Mcadam
McPherson was best 22 how last year how the f78k is he SANFL reserve,?? Cook didn't play, Rowe played nearly every game in 2021 hardly an SANFL reserve, Mcadam was our only shining light up forward today -apart from Rachelle and was an immediate first 22 last season!!

Davis yes
Strachan probably better than ROB
Hately will play a fair few SANFL games but showed signs today at last.

But yes your a long way off convincing me there were 8 "SANFL reserves" playing today.

Cook played, pretty ordinary too.

If the SA covid protols were aligned to the protocols in the Eastern States then the majority of players that missed today would have played today

The 3 extra days of isolation that is in place in SA puts both SA clubs at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the competition

Given the AFL forced WA and SA to rrian with restrictions when Vic clubs were forced to train in limited numbers, I wonder will the AFL now push for an equalisation policy and have all clubs working with a 10 health protocol even if the local Govt guidelines say 7 days.

For some reason I think not...
