That would be very pleasant. Hope he impresses and can force his way into the team at some point in the year.

Not if he gets reported though....... Never mind. 🙂

Would like to see him and Maynard at it. Two tough bastards right there

This may not be a dress rehearsal for the real thing, but I doubt it will be treated as a joke either.
A team like this could still tell us plenty without the need to wear out all the older guys too early.

Plowman Weitering Newman
SPS Marchbank Williamson

TDK Setterfield Walsh
O'Brien Stocker Newnes

Cuningham Casboult Martin
Betts Kennedy JSilvagni

Dow Fisher Gibbons Cottrell Honey Lang

I don't care if it's a little short.
Just gives plenty a little look in and throws the carrot out.

Given it is apparently going to be 6x25, I am expecting everyone fit to get a run.
Available veterans played the equivalent match last year against Hawthorn.

Right - 6 quarters. That does change things somewhat, but still - I don't think that he guys on the periphery should treat this as a mickey-mouse game.

Want to see the guys 15-30 gunning it to put their hand up for the next practice game, the one after and then the season proper.

I just want to see our likely best 22 vs their likely best 22 for at least 3x25 or so. Then we each go prospects vs prospects for a time.

If only we still had Malthouse around at the club. He could have negotiated that with Buckley. I hear those two get on really well..... 🤣

Even players in the next bracket that could press their claims. Cottrell, Owies, Honey etc
+ the extra periphery players (Webb, Moore, Cunico & Sturgess), at least for this contest anyway.

Stocker is a strange one

Seems to go through the motions in general training until the match sim starts

Get the feeling he will step up through the gears as we start to play some competitive matches/season proper
Going through the motions is probably why he is/was lacking a tank

This is weird.

Extract from their website:

"The game will consist of four periods of match play, with the teams also having two periods in which they engage in competitive training drills."

Probably for those not ready to play an actual game, have a bit of competitive training drills to get the work in - Probably where Harry will participate etc

A little surprised that two AFL clubs would come to the party on something like that. But I like it. I imagine each club will bring a couple of drills to the table, gives us a chance to work on something specific against actual opposition players, and gives us a chance to learn a little something about what they're working on (and vice versa of course).

Sounds to me that we may have a team of ~24 for the main game and the other guys not playing may be involved in these drills.

Still somewhat odd and what sort of drills? One-on-ones? Midfield drills? Goal-kicking contests? Who knows?

Stocker will get in when he can run 4 quarters even sooner o-if one or two of the more fancied types (in here) continue with their awful tackling and one way running routines. Every really good side needs a few serious hard nut mongrels who can also play.

Indeed, the barrier to Stocker getting a game is his inability to play an entire game.

First quarter back from injury in the VFL last year, he gets 12 touches and looks a million bucks. The next quarter he can hardly get near it, 1 or 2 touches max. The rest of the game he dwindles away.

Can't sustain his efforts yet.

Fingers crossed he has improved I want him in the side sooner rather than later and not off HBF a couple of these younger ones have to be able to combine to give Cripps the ability to go forward and cause mismatches and mayhem and carnage.
