Yet another player that has been given advice of rest to overcome an injury & yet has to go down the surgical route in the end anyway.
Elliott & now Greenwood have basically lost their pre seasons due to bad advice to rest & have had to have surgery in the end much later than it should have been done. If as Walsh says that the surgery will be minor then they probably should have done it at seasons end after missing the last 2 games of the H&A season. We must get better at this. We are shooting ourselves in the foot.

I shouldn’t feel relieved, but I do. Hopefully the club won’t feel the need to rush him back ahead of more talented but less experienced players.

Regardless of whether you think Greenwood belongs in our best 22, there is a bigger problem here with getting the right treatment in place for our post season injuries.

The similarities between the thinking behind Greenwood's surgery and that of Elliott are interesting:

'Greenwood missed the final two matches of the season, after which an expert external opinion was sought. It was decided that rest would lead to a full recovery.

Collingwood Director of Football, Geoff Walsh, said that the continuing and nagging nature of Greenwood’s discomfort prompted a rethink.'

In both cases the club and medics were aware of the injuries prior to the end of the season and the verdict was that rest was the only healing requirement. In both cases that judgement proved to be wrong.

EDIT: Apologies. I didn't see Frizzle's post on the same topic.

We seem to be having a lot of “issues” of injuries we thought would “heal with rest”.

So we’re are amateurs in our medical department or just come out and say the players didn’t want to get surgery post season and we will be behind the 8 ball come round 1 once again.

Both were referred to third party ‘experts’ for advice on the matter... I dare say we’ll find new experts in the future.

Doesn't mean it was the wrong call at the time though, if they got 3 experts in you can only follow their advice
Who said anything about 3 experts! There may have been that many, but the club statement says 'an expert external opinion was sought'. One, singular. Three expert opinions I could handle, even respect.
