“There’s probably 18 guys that if they’re fit and available with the experience and talent they have, they’re probably in our best side”

Fwiw, that’s the comment from Simpson which would suggest the 18 doesn’t include potential debutants or even players with limited experience

Best I can come up with is 15 players who could be considered automatic selections for now

Backs - McGovern, Barrass, Hurn, Duggan, Cole
Forwards - Darling, Allen, Cripps, Ryan
Mids - Naitanui, Shuey, Yeo, Kelly, Sheed, Gaff

That group will be named unless they aren’t fit to play

Based on preseason performances the following are all pressing for selection

Backs - Hunt, Witherden, Hough, HEdwards, Rotham

Forwards - Petruccelle, Hewett, Long, Jones, Petrevski-Seton, Waterman

Mids - Culley, O’Neill, Ginbey

Rucks - Williams, Jamieson

There’s 16 players there and I haven’t included the likes of West, Clark, Trew, Winder, LEdwards, Foley who are probably behind the names I’ve listed

I don’t think Barnett, Burgiel, Dewar, Baker, JWilliams, Bazzo and Chesser will be in the frame for Round 1
I’d be very surprised if Hunt wasn’t an automatic selection for round 1

Me too, but he mentioned Hunt outside the 18 he talked about being in our best side

Hey guys, I don’t usually venture here.

Would like an update on Chesser. As some of you might know, I was hoping Chesser would end up at the Lions, (and I had some inside word, not from the Lions, that before the West Coast interest got out, Chesser thought he was headed to the Lions with our second pick of the first round).

Has anyone seen him hit top gear in any sprinting drills?

I know Petruccelle is fast, but Campbell was genuine U18 National level 100m fast, sub 11 sec at his best.

And how’s his agility?

Why? Because of the Darling update?

Other than that, is there anything of actual substance besides the usual media fluff that gives absolutely nothing away?

Simpson, or the club in general isn't exactly known for being candid.

At 6:90 he talks about his Valentine's Day plans. Dinner for two apparently.

Chesser is being held back as they ease him in to competitive football

Played a quarter of the match sim last Friday and based on what Simpson said today might extend that to a half on Friday

I’ve yet to see him train at full pace but he looks pretty tidy in what I have seen. Talk from around the club remains very bullish

Think it’ll be several rounds into the season before we see him at AFL level and maybe not until after the bye

Allen will miss the intra-club match this Friday. Probably for the best, keep him rested and ready for the pre-season games.
No Darling, no Allen, might see Ryan at FF

You're probably going to want to subscribe to our WAFL thread for the first couple of months because that's where he'll playing after how long he's been out. The club streams all the games so you'll be able to get a look at him (or some fan - looking at Badge - will probably do weekly highlights for him).

Tom Cole has not been impressive at all this preseason, but having said that he is a Simpson favourite
so will probably get a game round 1

As a lockdown small defender he’s probably competing with Witherden and Foley for a spot. Who would you rather see in the side?
