More inside 50s in a half than we'd get in a game with Noble. Many of the cattle are not AFL worthy and will need to be replaced sooner then later. It'll get better, slowly but before Clarko it was only getting worse.

if we inject sleevo, corr, tarryn, Curtis Taylor, tucker and wardlaw into this side for plodders like Scott, Ziebell, shiels and xerri we look much better

i'm a little surprised by the negativity and lack of perspective in here. actually, wait, am i? maybe I missed a 'not' in there.

Dogs are a very good team but we've definitely had promising patches. There's a huge difference between what we're seeing today and what we saw last year in terms of structure and ball movement and competitiveness. you're being pretty silly and deliberately negative if you cant see that

Why does Ziebell get kick-ins duty? Surely there is a better option.
McDonald had most in the 1st quarter … just trying to figure out who hits them worse

Agreed.

We’re coming off a very low base but there’s definite improvement and definite room for improvement.

A few half time thoughts:

Cattle
We still don't have a full competitive list. Too many underdone guys, too young and inexperienced, and too many plodders. Signs of improvement and a better gameplay, for sure. But Clarko is essentially dealing with the same playing list that Noble had and it shows.

Decision making
Can forgive a few crappy disposals under pressure from guys who have less than 30~ AFL games played, but cannot forgive them from guys like co-captain Luke McDonald.

Ruck
Xerri ain't it. He's a liability around the field. We badly need a young and upcoming ruck behind Goldy, and it's not Xerri.
I would be hitting De Koning blues offer him $800000 6 years

  • I like the movement through the middle once we have the ball.
  • The defensive set up is better, but when the ball goes deep we lack composure. (Undersized vs this attack so a little understandable).
  • Mids getting carved, LDU has to impose himself physically alot more. His man is free to run from every contest.
  • Pressure forward of centre still a worry, to his credit Turner is busting a gut doing alot of that work himself.
  • Fwd entries are as poor as a ever, hopefully just a shit day and not something that will continue into the rest of the season. It looked alot better on the track the last couple months.
  • Fumbling, first touch is a mess in that half, again hope it doesn’t carry into the season.

Getting a bit of the Shaun Atleys from Goater

Midfield should be our best area, but looks lethargic today.

Speed has been our Achilles heel for 20 years and we still don’t seem to put any weight in it.

Forward line looks really poor and to be honest can’t see what we are trying to achieve.

Haven't seen a lot of Phillips, because he has Liberatore on him. Probably the best stopper in the business. It's all a learning experience.

North players constantly line up behind the opponent and would need to attack the ball a bit harder. When they have done that they looked ok.

Have liked the decision making from him when he does get the ball though. Phillips is a great footy brain.

LDU and Simpkin get a lot of attention but I'm just as excited by the Powell/Phillips combo for the next decade.

Half-time thoughts:
- Forward entries / delivery needs to improve and if it does we’re back in the game

- Leaks too easily out of stoppage once they get the first handball out

- We’re really struggling against the 4 good talls up forward which most teams would, spoilt luxury of riches

- Bailey Smith is allowed to do whatever he likes and HTB does not exist

- Whenever the ball is in Powell, Curtis or Phillips hands something good happens

- Cunners back is so valuable, both in the contest and around the ground

- Sheez is so dangerous as a crumber despite a lack of speed

- Logue and McKay struggling to coexist, going to the same spots, lack of communication

- Ziebell poor with the ball, need a genuine user taking kick outs and driving out of half back

- Simpkin is everywhere and ball use has been somewhat better but still needs improvement

- Xerri dominant in the actual ruckwork. seems to be no1 with Goldy chopping out this year

- Larkey very good but wish Comben could get into the game more

- Perez and Goater good intensity and have their flashes but long ways to go before becoming consistent footballers

- Turner good once again and playing how I’d never expect

- Ironic that Bailey Scott is playing quite bad and pulling out of a few contests after the discourse on here the last few days. Haven’t liked his game so far but don’t want Nostra to run with it. Hope he improves.
