Played a good outfit tonight , the quickest team in the competition, they moved the ball from their back half into their f50 with ease. Showed where we are at in that regard, we couldn’t go with them, we’ve got some plodders out there. The midfield looks ok on paper, but very one-paced ,and can’t see any immediate relief in that regard. No doubt a priority to address that in upcoming drafts.
Got three players in Sonzie, Ross and Macaulife? to come in..

We have the players but it’s all about the right mix. Last night was not the best mix at all.
I'm not convinced we have the players. Thinking we're gonna have to go down to go up, so we should be investing time into kids rather than wasting games on the likes of Grimes, McIntosh, etc.

Bad forward line, Lynch pin missing but saying that Kozi should be a pack breaking foil for Tom.

Balta any hope as a forward an he looks pretty clueless in the F50 needs big Tom there he is mobile and athletic enough to play a monster "small" forward role.

I've seen neither practice match. just some highlights, But Balta marked and goaled OK vs Melbourne whos KPDs are OK.

Balta 7 marks , 2 behinds vs Pies.

I hoped Kosi would hit the scoreboard more. It sounded like he's playing the Ben Miller defensive job on the gun KPD.

Inacuracy is a killer. 2. 10 by half time

Some of the melt downs are funny to read so let’s try to keep it real. The club seems to think we can still compete in the top 8 if healthy. What I want to know is, where is our next generation of talent going to come from? Because I don’t believe we have much of it atm. Just look at our successful period.. Cotch, Jack, Rance, Dusty, Edwards, Grimes, Astbury hell you can even chuck in Castagna and butler, were all drafted. There’s more capacity to get talent through trades and free agency now like what Geelong have done and are trying to do but I still think you need to hit the draft hard so with that being the case I think we need to have some down years to get better. So shift your expectations to that and you’ll all be much happier

I agree with the grimes and kmac comment. I think with the right blend of youth and senior players we will see much better/exciting performances.
We were lacking speed last night-looked much quicker week 1

It wasn't the gameplan or cohesion that was the issue it was just plain dumb football or preservation mode that is the issue.

I know I am melting because Collingwood consistently got more people to the contest every time there was a loose ball. Our players seem to have supreme confidence in eachother to be able to win the ball 1 v 5 as well. On top of that, whenever we tried to run/win the ball we seemed to have a lot of downhill skiers who just bolted forward without providing any cover or options.

There was a passage of play when McIntosh couldn't find an option ahead of him and when he caused thr turnover there were more collingwood blokes behind the ball. If our blokes were not infront of McIntosh nor behind him I have no idea where they were.
Sadly Naismith got to more contests at ground level than most of our mids. We are a turtle colony in that area and we need to play Sonsie, MRJ and KMac in Kane McAuliffe. Just get games into them for next season.

My post certainly wasn’t at people who melt from time to time. The criticism points you raised are valid. Also, I’ve melted many times on this board and even for preseason games, so I wouldn’t be one to talk. We’re on this forum to express our views.

However, it’s also here to support our players and club.

For example, we have people wanting to send Hopper back to where he came from even though he played a good game against Melbourne 10 days ago. I’m talking about things like that. A poster can say that they’re not happy with his form right now or they didn’t like what he did in a passage of play, but wanting to piss him off after one year and two preseason games? We just played two top 4 sides of last year and he did well in one of them.

I just feel like this board is turning into a place where it’s more awkward to support the players/team after a loss than to cuss them out. Even in a loss to the reigning premiers in a preseason match, it’s still the same. Like, I don’t want this board to become a board full of rose-coloured glasses either, but we’re too much on the negative side right now. We as a collective (including myself) need to dial the negativity a bit.

Shouldve been up by 5 goals in the first quarter wouldve been a different game. Forward line still my biggest concern. Wouldve made finals last year if we could just finish off our hard work. This year well have Lynch back at some point. Makes us a 4 goal better team at least.

Players that had a real go were the younger ones plus Taranto. Some of the senior boys were really coasting. Just want lynch back to provide the physical presence. Oh and kosi is an absolute waste of time.

Handball happy style won't win because we don't have the run anymore with this team. Kicking the ball long to Kosi, Balta and Ryan is not gonna win either though. We are a slow team that isn't good at stoppages, it's not a good combination.

Realistically we have virtually the same list as last year so not much could change. The best we can hope for this season is to find some young players like Dow, Gibcus, Sonsie and hopefully a few more that lock down starting spots by the end of the season. Dusty and Bolton will surely win us a few games, no idea what Lynch will provide, but yeah it's a long season ahead.
Banks, when fit.
Tresize was good last year.
Ryan: at least he goaled in his 50% game time. I didn't see the Dees, apparently undisciplined? Probably don't need Ryan and/or Kosi when Lynch returns
Ross starting wing I hope.

We seem to have a shed load of small fwds. Coulthard, Clarke, Green, Campbell, Mansell. MRJ was more mid but got run and turned it over several times.

Hugo...meh. A few runs and long kicks that he turned over

Cumbo was good in the half I saw, as was K. Mac II.

Has anyone ever watched a pre-season or early-season game? They are always shite. Clangers galore, players run out of puff very quickly and the gameplan always falls apart within 5 minutes. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Remember, Dimma started 0-9. Let's see where Richmond are at in the second half of the season. We need to see what this team's BEST footy looks like. We'll only see it for a quarter or two in any given game. For a great team it's an easy game, because you are predictable to your teammates. It takes a LONG time to build that level of consistency and cohesion.

More than anything this year, I want to see us playing a few good quarters of footy where our young guys are the ones staring. That's when we'll know we're starting to move forward.

Oh, and Marlion Pickett should be our sub for the first 22 games of the season.

Loving Brown and Gibcus. Both have very different games but compliment each other.

This team needs a couple more quality high draft picks coming in. That hopper trade looks really bad. Bottoming out this year won’t be the worst thing to happen.

The Hopper trade is a real killer even if we were a top 4 team because he just isn't delivering in any aspect of the game
