Stocker looked like he’s added pace. When I saw the headband I thought Hunter Clark had got on the roids. Looks cut. Looks to have made a real push to cement a best 22 spot.
Thought he may of shed weight in one vid footage. But still a big boy. If he could genuinely add pace, then could be a weapon in that midfield.

lol

• Dylan Shiel $413k MID actually looked really good off HB?
😲
Has Shiel become SuperCoach relevant again? Though, he did come off the ground with leg soreness.

He was always 5 to 7 kgs too heavy, it looks like he has lost some if he can continue to trim down and improve his mobility he may just find a home in the midfield.

Very similar thoughts here! Feel like Stocker getting the most out of himself pace-wise is crucial. He finished '24 in strong form too I thought. And he's in that age bracket of players we'd love to see take the next step up. Fingers crossed!

Agree and was handy enough through there late last season! You also know he'll never take a backwards step old Stocker, body on the line type, I really hope he can step up and be a long-term Saints player, seems a really decent sort of bloke/good to have around, plus he hates Carlton from all reports!

My biggest question right now is.... can we play NAS as a pure mid?

I hope not, his distribution is his weapon. It would be like using a Rolex as a hammer. Wing or HB is playing to his strengths. I'm inclined to leave him where he is. He gets to slice through the field and he has really good vision and creativity.

This is also why I would play Sincs primarily across HB as well. With Sincs and Nas both there that gives us the most effectively offensive HB line in the AFL.

Sincs and Nas are also both good defensively and are both very good at reading the play and intercepting.

If Arie can hold down CHB (It is his defensive side I am apprehensive about at present) then offensively Nas, Sincs and Arie could combine to be a considerable offensive advantage for us. A real competitive advantage over other clubs.

With the midfield while yes "at present" we still lack that elite dominant mid, our 2025 midfield group is the best it has been for a while, plus it now runs quite deep which gives us more of an injury/suspension buffer.

Crouch was a quality mid and real loss last season where he only played one game, and is now gone permanently. But Macrae is an upgrade and offensively is much better than Crouch.

Steele looks fully fit again.

Pou will deliver more, and his ceiling as a mid is as yet unknown.

Henry adds variety and pace.

Clark, Jones, Dow, Carroll are all capable of being part of a competent midfield.

Stocker could be too, he just needs to deliver that bit more. So if as speculated he has improved his pace that will help.

Garcia is absolutely champing at the bit, and I am confident will only get better and better over the next few years. He could well be our big improver this season.

Windy looked solid last year, and very good at times. Should get better.

Owens too will have bursts in as a mid (as opposed to chop-out ruck), but still has to prove that he can succeed there.

Wilson will probably get some runs on the ball this year. Probably cameos, but will be part of the mix and will this help his development as in coming years he will probably get more inside mid time if he can show that he ability for that role.

Hall will be trying to squeeze into the 22/23, but will need a run of good Sandy games to do so.

Boxhall and Said may have to bide their time in 2025, for unless we get a lot of injuries/suspensions it will be hard work cracking it for a game unless the Coaches decide to "blood" players as part of their development.

So in 2025 as it stands we have a good range of options for our midfield without Nas. So let him just build his game across HB in 2025.

I suspect that long term Nas will move to HHF, but like you said for the now it's gonna be about consolidation for him and the rest of the young blokes. It'll be interesting to see the attitude towards blooding the youth since the choice is only between 18-21yo's with 0-50 games under their belts. Save for giving the draftees a taste l hope there's a stronger performance based flavour to selection this year. There's no rush with the 3 bottom aged kids and the others are late(ish) picks anyway.

Were set up with a stack of quality run and carry guys now many of whom have very very good skills. That is modern footy too.

Get enough ball in the hands of Nas, Wilson, Sincs, Travag etc. and youre gonna win alot of games.

As someone who has seen absolutely zero sessions this preseason and rely heavily on the notes of posters and sound bites from the club, it seems like there is plenty of internal love for Max Hall (especially from the players).

Obviously we won't know anything until the practice games, but it seems like he is doing a lot right.

Just had a call from the club (Max Hall) thanking for re-signing our memberships, he said he has been training as a small forward and a little through the midfield. I asked him who he thought would fill the CHB role he said Caminiti.

Pretty sure Max was at Rye footy club yesterday having a run around with his dog.

Plenty of track watchers are really impressed this pre season. Me not as much and would have Carroll ahead, but that means nothing, just my opinion.

We have a bunch of solid mids that we haven't had before, Dow, Carroll, Hall, Jones, Clark, Stocker, some up and comers in Windy, Wilson, Travaglia, Said, then Steele, Macrae, Pou.
If we stay injury free it is difficult to fit them all in.

Training Report 20/01/25 New
Match sim report from B.M on saintsational-

Max King absolutely tore it up in match sim today

Kicked 6 or 7 and ripped Caminiti a new arse (who was playing full back). The Black team (possibles) actually led the red team (probables) 2 goals to 1 after a 12 min quarter (Jones and Garcia very busy). But the red team got rolling after that and led 5 goals to 3 at HT with Nas and Sincs doing as the pleased off HB, Phillipou and Macrae dominating the midfield and Max taking a number of marks i50 and converting

Sharman, Owens and Higgins also dangerous forward.

Keeler was impressive for the young team, kicked a couple. Butler also pretty good.

But King was pretty much unstoppable

I'm glad they'll playing around with a smaller forwardline. King, Caminiti, Sharman and Owens feels really tall in the modern game. Taking Caminiti out of it makes sense.
I also think we could see Wood drifting forward a bit more as well so plenty of height available while still being very mobile if we choose to go with Max as the sole traditional tall.

No chance, he's an outside player and I don't think he has the edge required to do it. The question you should be asking is, can we play Darcy Wilson as a pure mid.
I hope I am wrong but I think he is in the same boat as Nas. He is better in the contest than Nas but a fair way off a a mid still.
