Cripps 195
Bont 194

Macrae 192
Pou 190 (Or has he grown?)

Yes we have bigger mids, but not quite as big as Cripps and Bont though, but yes they are big!

Cripps and Bont are both also arguably the best two mids in the AFL....so it is not just size that counts.

But I agree it is good to have to two bigger mids as part of our mix.

Agree, to note, various elite mids across the league aren’t exactly tall:
Lachie Neale 177cm
Errol Gulden 175cm
Chad Warner 185cm
Nick Daicos 184cm
Zak Butters 181cm
Caleb Serong 180cm
Zach Merrett 180cm

Training report 24/1/25 New
My quick 50 cents from training Friday on just who/what caught my eye fwiw.

Jones is zipping around all strong and tidy. Having a good preseason.

Windy moving around nicely orchestrating things occasionally.

Hill awesomeness! As someone said Trav taught a lesson or two.

Chito - good grabs kicking goals.

Clark - running laps comfortably.

Viking - first look at him as was running quarter laps. Careful running action and not sure if deliberate or just his natural measured arm action. Nevertheless runs very toey and springs along nicely. Really good size. Easy to see he’s got leaping prowess.

King was strong again.

I think Cordy was playing forward at one point. Happy to be corrected. Getting involved.

Ari with terrific kicking, a real pleasure.

Hugo was a bit of a pro in the heavy traffic. Looking really composed dishing out the handballs.

Webster was good. Training well.

McLennan reminding us of his marking abilities, and left his man to intercept on one occasion showing footy smarts.

Maxy Hall was good again!

Boxshall - he’s quick.

Carroll keeps getting caught with the ball. But he’s in there getting it working away.

O’Connell taking some decent grabs and starting to have an influence. He’s a sharp kick and travels very smoothly. Really lovely guy too at signing open training.

Boyd was pretty active. If he can get his confidence sky high may play a part this season. He’s got the attributes and I think he can do more than what he’s showing. He’ll be a useful blocker for our mids when ball goes to ground.

Finally Dodson got into a couple of good marking positions but didn’t stick. But I think that’ll come.

Sorry didn’t know where to post this. What do you guys think of my Fantasy team? I’d say it’s pretty balanced…

I did one to make up a spot in our work league last year.
Was called Allsaints.
It was only StKilda player or players who had been on StKilda's list if i couldn't otherwise get a starting player.

If i still can't get it to work, players relatives are allowed.

Rehab, Henry, Collard, Clark, Tauru. Another, could be Boxshall. Henry and Collard kick to kick, Clark laps, Tauru on the bands. Running with Clark in 80's.
Seems only Dow and Tauru not available for R1 (currently)
Henry with the training groups doing drills not sure he will be doing match sim.
Three groups of handball drills, lots of noise.
Three umpires down for sim.
Lots of non listed players down no.s in the 50. Could be full numbers match sim.
Spirited lead and repeat one on one within a 15 metre box. Wilson, McLennon, Max Windy all working hard. Bolton and Lyon vocal AF. Max on Wilkie, Hall on Gus, Doug on Keeler, Stocker on Wilson. Hugh cardio and recover stuff. High intensity. Lyon happy.
Match sim Red v Yellow bibs. Will try to give as many players as possible but difficult with Yellow
Mids Red, steele, Macrae, Phillipou. Heath v Boyd no Roh.
Higgo takes a big pack mark.
Sincs hb, Wilson hf, Hammer forward, Travalgia hb.
Naz poor turnover in the corridor.
Not real sim. Coaches setting up set plays
Boxshall actually playing in red, not sure who the other was in rehab. Playing as a mid.
Focus on quick switch back to corridor. Running the defence from side to side.
First qtr 6 mins, drills set up be coaches.
2nd qtr 12 minutes, being held in the huddle, taken by Boris.
Mids Heath Stocker, Phillipou Steele. Holding on Max by Doug, Doug goes off at the umpire. High frontal pressure by forwards
Forwards, Hammer, Max, Chito, Titanic, Higgo, Butts.
Hammer tangles with Webster comes up limping.
Half field sim. Lots of practising how to attack through a press. Using the width to open gaps, chito marks over Naz who is wiped out by Arie, Chito slots it from 45 on the angle.
Hammer ok, contests and dribbles one through.
Lots of congestion and contesting.
A few bib swaps.
Jones Byrnes Carroll in the mids with Garcia and Hall. Boyd now in red. Not happy no Roh, hopefully only managed.
Arie in red to Jones who spots up Hall who slots it. Good stuff.
Lyon talking to Titanic about pattern running, Wilson slots one from outside the 50.
Hall with a great crumb and Eddie Betts it from the pocket.
Good spirited 2nd qtr. Jones, Hall, Wilson, Hammer good for the reds.
Ross now taking the huddle more bib changes.
Byrnes off up the race with a trainer straight into the rooms. Looks OK, maybe needs strapping or something. Byrnes back, strecting his back, running laps.
Garcia competitive beast, beaten by Pou, runs past and gives him a big nudge in the back.
Two groups down each wing, red probables v Yellow, red possibles v Green. Actually the yellows are probables as well, Hill, Wilson, Titanic, Macrae etc.
Good session, high intensity, sounds like they had a bludge on Wednesday.
Have finally seen what other have been saying about Hall. Fantastic crumber, in and under clean disposal. Can football
Wood looks cut and is as good as ever. Steele moving well, McLennon beating Pou.
Byrnes back in sim.High pressure lots of talk and very good contests. McLennon, Hall, Wilks, Doogs, Mason, Steele all looked good.
Another 12 min qtr red v black.
Black probables.
Boyd in black with Steele, Hugo, Pou. Heath Macrae, Carroll, Jones in red. Forget black probables.
Boyd's second effort once on the ground is outstanding.
Pou to Max, big pack mark. Black against the wind, first two goals.
Lyon continually demanding the ball be shifted to the fat side instead of bombing to congestion.
Gus with a great one hand congested mark on Wilson.
Arie with a 55 metre shift to Travaglia opens the ground, Travalgia puts it out.
I think Irish can football.
Hard running by chito to get an open goal black 3 goals against the wind.
Changed my opinion Hall is ahead of Carroll.
Hill is looking as good as ever, giving young Travalgia a bath on the wing. Sets up a goal for Higgo. 4 straight into the wind v 1 behind.
Q2 12 minutes.
Mids
Macrae, Garcia, Pou, Boyd, Hall black
Dodson, Boxshall, Steele Carroll red.
Hall is a dead eye, sets up Max on the lead for a goal. Again Hall involved in a handball chain resulting in a Higgo goal. Ross praises him.
Arie runs 60 metres to affect the spoil, can't go again, ends up with Pou who strolls into goal.
Boyd to Hugo who hits chito on the tit for a goal 8.1 to 0.1
Doug destroys Hammer in a marking contest. Took the wind out of him. Willing.
Boyd is so quick when it is on the ground, like another mid. Really impressive.
Sim over 12.1 to 0.1 but not indicative of real sim, lots of kicking in from goal etc.
Wood, Boyd, Hugo, Hall, Max, Hill, Chito all looked very good.
Sincs tidy off hbf, Naz nice but some miskicks, backline very solid, Doug good, Wilks good McLennon good, Barrat has the body to play first up.
Hold up some extra sim, no scoreboard. Practising setups at marks, shuffling across, now positioning on the wing without a ball being kicked. Zoning and positioning forward now. All very interesting, but time for me to Vamos.

This is absolute gold.

thank you so much

We have a hell of a lot of midfielders are those on the fringe and in development at a crossroads at the moment.

I'm interested in how preseason track watchers would rate the following players and where the cutoff for selection is, and who will actually play midfield. Not including wing/hf as I think that's almost a lock (Hill, Henry, Wood, Wilson). The order is my first suggestion, but after Philippou it's kind of a stab in the dark. Have noted positions these players would rotate through if not first choice mid.

Steele
Macrae
Sinclair (HB)
Clark
Philippou
Garcia (FP)
Jones
Windhager (HB/BP)
Byrnes (HB/BP)
Carroll
Dow
Hastie (HB)
Stocker (HB/BP)
Hall (FP)
Boxshall

If fit:

Clark

Garcia
Dow
Jones
Stocker
Carroll

Hall
Boxshall

The bolded group ultimately depends on who they are playing alongside and what attributes are needed
