CHB , yeah nah
Way to small and has never played as a defender from what I have seen

It won't happen but he is not too small, body wise he is the strongest at the club, but he is a valuable forward.

Since when does having not played in defence preclude a player from a move. I garuantee half the posters on this forum have never played the game at any decent levels.

You know half the best defenders in the game started their careers as forwards surely?

So we were a kick or so away from bottom 4 last year.

And we're going to roll into 2025 with basically the exact same team (bar macrae), but now minus battle, howard, marshall, pou.

Replacements for those guys are C-D graders like cordy, shoenmaker, boyd etc...

Not sure cornes is saying something controversial when he says we are a big bottom 4 candidate.

Actually 3 wins outside the bottom 4 last year. And we were technically closer to the top 8 being only 2 wins and percentage away.

We are low hanging fruit for Kane Cornes. Until we start regularly beating Port it will remain.
I dint think there is a lot of respect for the Saints in SA. Port supporters know we are their bunnies, and Crows supporters feel much the same.

Not looking forward to round 1 and having the crows forwards monster our backs. Wilkie can't cover all of Tex, Tilthorpe and Fogarty.
Three weeks later we play Port and their midfield will once again be the difference.

Losing Howard and Pou isn't great for the match ups against the SA teams.

I'd love to see Caminiti start training with the defenders. It feels a bit like when we were forced to put Battle into the backline for an extended period and then discovered he wasn't a bad fit. Caminiti is not exactly banging down the door for a key forward position.

You're right of course.

After all, competent 6'6" key position defenders grow on trees......
We use trees to select our list do we? 🌲 first I’ve heard of it. Was plenty available the last couple of years, we just did nothing, didn’t plan ahead, I would have thought our list managers would have known Josh was gonna bail last off season.

Didnt we draft the first key defender?

Otherwise you wanted us to get one to what? Sit behind Battle, Howard and Wilkie (and Van Es)?

We have and had Cordy, so its not like we dont have depth but tell me who does Melbourne throw in if May goes down? Andrews for Brissy? Moore for Collingwood?

No one has like for like coverage on key talls and ruckmen, you just cant cause if theyre any good they go somewhere else for money or opportunity.

Also if youve followed the Battle stuff here for long youd know full well we apparently didnt know he was leaving until very very late.

I follow Saints pretty closely as my daughter partner is a big fan of Saints.

Shame regarding Phillipou and Marshall injuries.

Similar to Phillipou Suns Collins had stress reaction in his femur (hip area) round 9, 2019. After 6 weeks rest with no significant improvement he was shut down for a season. Hopefully Pow will be a better case.

Good luck in 2025.

Well it seems the Medical experts are out and about

Tme to tell the group to stop running and competing so hard ... Wilson, Windy & Garcia you are at risk you crazy hard runners ..... jogging & walking only please .... Sharman King Chito ... no jumping for you ...... and defenders ... you must defend with your arms by your side ... no hands above head thank you very much

We will be cherry ripe for Round 1

Its interesting as after the first year of disastrous injuries Lyon blamed the Head of Fitness and sacked him. He has since replaced him with hand picked personnel and we are getting the same results. Surely that is enough to have the Lyon faithful wake up and smell the roses.

Granted he is a good tactical coach, but his training regimes have consistently broken players at both clubs he has been at. He pushes the envelope too far and if ever there is push back from staff he moves them on. He is all too happy to play injured players and then expose kids who really shouldnt be.

Then the farce last year of running out Crouch on one leg, destroyed any credibility he had. He might be good for the club remaining competitive in the short term, but long term his history of player injury management the Lyon negatives are a liability IMO.
Getting the same results?

We were one of the most unprofessional outfits in the competition when Lyon took over from Ratten.

The improvement in our conditioning and running game is night and day.

Can you please outline which players Ross has broken? The crouch example is farcical. Trusted a senior players judgement who made the wrong call and was subsequently diagnosed with a degenerative knee issue.

Reality is, we’ve been extremely unlucky these past two offseason with injuries to key personal. It’s not as fun for some as playing the blame game but it’s the truth

We were closer to the top 8 than we were to the bottom 4 last year if we’re going to deal in facts.

Absolutely devastated about Pou. Had a feeling he was going to explode this year. Just speechless :(
It's gut wrenching.

I was watching him closely at last Friday's training session......quietly thinking to myself that he's primed for a big big year.

Was running superbly.....as many have said...he has looked in great nic.

What I didn't notice was him coming off the field in a bit of bother(was told that today by someone who saw him come off)

After "Dark Monday" yesterday....I cannot help but wonder who it was that pissed off the Footy Gods.

BIG TIME !!!!!!!

You can expect a phone call from me.

Yes, what was the club thinking in restocking with a large group of excellent young draftees, plus Macrae, a quality player but at a great trade price, and Carroll as free ready to go player, when they could have stocked up instead with a bunch of older players that other clubs no longer wanted.

Personally I am tired of the treading water approach and much prefer that we are rebuilding mainly via youth.

Looks like Lyon must have visited all the other clubs....since he is evidently the cause of all injuries.

Isnt that last years list - he has been busy. 😂

Its a fine line between elite preparation and over training, and Lyon seems to be able to manage the latter every year. I bet these arent the last long term injuries we sustain leading into the season and unless the club addresses the issue it will continue.

People can continue to make excuses and try to explain the growing injury list, thats fine but dont ask the rest of us to ignore the obvious!

Pou didn't play most of last year anyway.

Yes, we all were hoping he would take a leap but he can focus on getting 1000% ready and hitting the back end of the season really hard while the rest of the comp builds up game time fatigue.

Means that someone like Carroll or Travaglia are going to get midfield minutes. Possibly Owens as well.

As for Howard:

Plenty on here have lamented the idea that we would basically be forced to play him.

Now James Barratt or Isaac Keeler probably get thrown in the deep end. Or the Hammer @ FB trigger gets pulled with RoMa playing forward. Or we bring in Cordy as a stop gap.

We have options across the board.

The real focus should be on shoring up the midfield plan to stop the ball getting pumped inside our D50 as much as possible.

Sort out our own F50 conversions and we might be able to just boat race teams to 100-120 points every week!!

Two are likely load related, a third is possible.

Again, this pre season in isolation probably wouldnt say shows a pattern (although if you know much about stress fractures Pous is alarming) but weve had repeat and loading related injuries for a few years now.

At some point defending it against people simply saying "it looks like an issue" is a blind defence.

I can recall having this almost exact convo last year and i said the same thing then. I have confidence the club is aware of this (be it an actual issue or just a percieved one) and would be reviewing it.

I said last year, training services should under extreme scrutiny. We seem to have an excessive amount of injuries.
