Lyon EffectLooks like Lyon must have visited all the other clubs....since he is evidently the cause of all injuries.

Gringos heart is the third stress fracture caused by Lyon, when will it endAnd this is why I should always remember not to feel positive.
Pou will be a huge part of our future, but missing 8 rounds when there are other players knocking down the door for selection can be a positive thing.
Hall, Garcia, and even Windhager now have first crack at the spot left open. Could even see Wilson run through the middle opening up a spot for Travaglia.
I'm hoping this allows one of them to break out and put pressure on other spots.
Add the selection opportunities offered by gaps left by Marshall in the preseason, and Howard. You could have James Barrat ready to play finals footy in 2025.
Winning premierships is about good development, and good decision making when the cards are thrown at you.
How we respond will be huge for the team.
How long does “long term” have to be at the minimum?Stick Philipou on the LTI list and pick up Tomlinson in the SSP.
The concern is how Pou recovers from the injury. They're a really bad injury, completely off legs now for 6 weeks at least, needs to gradually increase the loads and be free of pain. I think the 10-14 weeks is pretty optimistic. This is potentially a very long-term injury and could even keep him out for a year, worst case scenario. Here's hoping all goes well in the recovery but it's not your run of the mill break.Pou will be a huge part of our future, but missing 8 rounds when there are other players knocking down the door for selection can be a positive thing.

But at the same time - if we dont get enough load into the players now and physically prepare them for the volume needed to play week in, week out, we are also setting them up for soft tissue injuries from their bodies breaking down at a higher intensity or for collision injuries due to being a bit off the pace.Running or working players until they break down can and should never be considered a positive. He is a 20yo kid what do you think his parents are thinking? What will they be saying to Matteus about our injury prevention systems and how we are managing their son. How does that effect our chances of the kid wanting to stay long term? The knock effects are huge and they are far more damaging than the positives.
The old knock em down grab another player mentality went out in the 70's & 80's, but it seems Lyon hasnt caught up yet!

Phillipou has the training attitude of the top 1% - he’d have trained this hard whether the club endorsed it or not, and I hope that this doesn’t change his approach.Running or working players until they break down can and should never be considered a positive. We think that we are upset.I think the club are attempting to manage the fall out with claiming 3 months in Phillipou's case. I agree unfortunately the more likely scenario is he will miss the entire season...
I don't think there's a minimum. I think a club can place anyone on the LTI but it means that player cannot play again for the rest of the seasonHow long does “long term” have to be at the minimum?

It's a tough balance and sometimes, the sports science people dont get it right for everyone. Majority of players are holding up just fine with it. So it doesnt mean the program is necessarily wrong. Just that moving forward, we might need to handle Phillipou and Marshall differently.
Marshall had been managed quite a bit prior to Christmas according to the many training reportsMarshall manfully battled an entire season without a rest last year, then the club throw a demanding pre season at him and he breaks down? There has to be smarter ways of loading these kids other than breaking them 9 weeks before they are expected to play?
Players have said other clubs do no way where near the running loads we do, how has that sky rocketed us up the ladder. It hasnt, what it has done is create the complete opposite effect with having half the list broken down throughout the year.
You are too smart to be arguing with people on BigFootyMarshall manfully battled an entire season without a rest last year, then the club throw a demanding pre season at him and he breaks down? Don't know his load but was in fluro hat from beginning of pre season up to Christmas. You are too smart to be arguing with people on BigFooty
Take your doctor of medicine to the club and offer to be a consultant, I'm sure they'd love to have you
Cheers for the positive story mate. That would be a good outcome for him, fingers crossedI had a stress fracture in my femur when I was 17. I was back running in 6 weeks and played within 10. Granted there will differences in the injury that alter the prognosis the point is that for every doomsday outcome, there’s also the prospect he could respond ahead of schedule.
No point throwing the toys out of the cot if it’s not required.
It’s worth noting I suspect the club will take a very conservative approach with Pou, however I hope we’re using this period to work on a new deal that ties him to the club well beyond his current contract.Cheers for the positive story mate. That would be a good outcome for him, fingers crossed
Whilst l agree, we do tend to lose key personnel from already thin senior list. You cant wrap them up in cotton wool if you want to genuinely compete though.
In reality we aren't really any that worst off overall then most of the other clubs who have a varying level of players in rehabs and the like.
This list is from this morning.UPDATED: The players at your AFL club who are set to miss the start of the 2025 season
More than half of the competition will be without personnel when their new campaigns get underway.www.zerohanger.com
