I reckon the person who would be sweating on the result of the Victorian election (other than PM Scott Morrison) could be Victorian Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton.

Because if the Coalition pulls off an upset result on November 24, Ashton's days as head of Victorian Police would be numbered, with the new Victorian Government likely to go for a hardline appointment as the new Chief Commissioner, mirroring their 'tough on crime' approach.

I don't have a party. If I did though I'd be sure to blame the other one in a state thread rather than talk about my party that is in power in a relevant national one.

I don't have a party either. I have criticised national governments of both major parties, then throw in the Greens for their influence, for the high levels of immigration.

It's relevant to this discussion because Melbourne's population is growing at record levels with barely a mention of it during a state election. The parties try to outdo each other with infrastructure spending promises but much of that spending would not be necessary without the record population growth.

National governments love immigration because it makes them look good by increasing GDP - but not necessarily GDP per capita, which is a better indicator of whether we are well off.

State governments love immigration because it makes them look good because the stamp duty from property sales and the extra Federal GST distributions contribute massively on the revenue side of their budgets - allowing them to make huge infrastructure election promises and allowing them to appear fiscally prudent.

So Guy's decided to fight the Labor Sky Rail by digging a trench through a flood plain (and doing 1 less crossing). And to increase the stupidity he is also going for one of his underpasses on an intersection there as well.

Of course The Liberals haven't even attempted to cost their folly.

They're also removing three crossings - not the fourth one - which is the one that links two highways. Genius.

just the way times are today

look at pedestrian overpasses they make now compared to the eighties - they are mesh cages
I literally just drove underneath one on Pascoe Vale Rd with a guardrail waist height. It's not an issue. If someone is going to off themselves, they won't bother taking a risk on a 5m drop. They're more likely to walk in front of the train itself.

Because they're currently on an embankment, how will the be when the are in a 8 metres deep trench?
It's more like 5m deep at most and water isn't going to flow into it unless they quite literally dig the trench into Cardinia Creek.

Digging a trench and lining with an RSS wall is a far cheaper solution than elevating a rail. Especially since the soil in the east is ass and the foundations will need to be immense. Probably half the mechanical strength of the mudstone in Oakleigh.

cant talk for pvr (se suburbs), but everything new here is cages - all the old stuff, barely waist height

on the train tracks, as dumb as it is people have a blind spot for legacy tech. an iron is a product safety disaster, there is no way it should be legal at all under any current product safety law (that was my work for some time). It survives however because people dont perceive it as a danger. yet we have warning labels on hair dryers telling people not to use them in showers.

people are stupid, poli's are reactionary, and thats how we get warnings that chainsaws may cause harm if you touch the moving blade (required in sweden!)

The latest spat of African Gang Crime is enough to ensure Guy wins.
You have to marvel at the genius of these kids, taking on people with easy access to many sharp things, not to mention that chefs as a group probably have the highest ratio of unhinged nutcases among them.

Lucky not to get sliced, diced and juillenned

50 billion to build something we had 100 years ago. Large companies have bled this country dry

I know the Liberals don't pay the poor schmucks who drop leaflets in letterboxes. I used to (unwillingly) do it.
Why do it if not willing then? Unless there was a trade off (trying to impress someone)

Guy has promised to re-introduce Religious Programing back into State Schools if elected, on the basis that "I am a Christian"

Coalition vows to reinstate religious instruction in state schools
Henrietta Cook
Religious instruction classes will be reintroduced into the Victorian state school curriculum if the Coalition wins next month's election.

Opposition leader Matthew Guy made the announcement at an Australian Christian Lobby pre-election forum on the weekend which also discussed euthanasia, gender theory, safe schools and religious freedoms.

"A government I lead will bring back religious instruction in schools because it's very important," Mr Guy told the crowd at Crossway Baptist Church in Burwood East.

Is he trying to win a US election? Cannot think how this benefits him in Victoria

I've got no problems with kids studying the concept of faith and varying religions, I'd like to see philosophy taught in primary school. But this is the Liberal Party and all it will be is proselytising.

this is what my wife first thought this class was gunna be about. she said she had no issue with it because they would be learning about buddhism to and other faiths

i laughed

State governments don't control immigration, take your cheerleading to the appropriate thread.

I wonder if Libs will ramp up the law and order stuff even more. Probably only way theyll get up
It's all well and good to bang on about law and order all the time I've failed to hear any ideas of any substance which will supposedly tackle the problem. Ankle bracelets for every parolee
is just plain stupid. Pandering party politics and nothing more. Good luck explaining how much that would all cost and the logistics involved. Is he still keen on building prisons all over the state? Because that's the only way he will be able to house all these criminals and get them off the streets with his posturing stance. A complete waste of resources BTW. You have to tackle the problem at the source and not thinking you have solved the problem by locking people up. Thats the US style of law and order.

Well, there's the logic behind it, that you've mentioned. But then there's the issue of it being something that is only likely to appeal to people on the right side of the political spectrum already. How does it help put him in an winnable position?

If he has any interest in winning, he needs to get some votes back from Andrews in the areas of infrastructure, health and education. And I don't think a focus on religion in schools is going to cut it.

here is my suggestion for the SA border wall

most permanent heads are on multiyear contract which are paid out for this reason
