We controlled the game tempo in the last quarter against Melbourne.
I thought we did it a bit early, though.
Time to engage the warp drive now.
As I've stated a lot on these pages, I reckon this is a deliberate ploy.

We certainly did tempo the game when we needed to, that last, yeah not a fan to go defensive for the whole qt, none the less gave the impression of 'in control of the game' - even as good as the dees were. They threw the kitchen sink and couldn't find clean entry i50.

More than confident we'll go warp drive more often in this game, that likely means a victory, and then we'll do it again the next game.

Not sure its wise, according to this. Even though IQ has improved 1v1. But he does get a lot kicked on him.

GREENE TIME

Collingwood's Toby Greene matchups since 2020
142 minutes:
Brayden Maynard (one goal)
59 minutes: Isaac Quaynor (five goals)
35 minutes: Nick Daicos (nil)
29 minutes: Jeremy Howe (one goal)
19 minutes: John Noble (nil)
16 minutes: Jack Crisp (two goals)
10 minutes: Nathan Murphy (nil)
3 minutes: Darcy Moore (nil)
1 minute: Pat Lipinski (nil)

Great analysis. Thanks!

On those numbers it’s a no-brainer. Maynard all the way.

But who's going to provide the leg speed if he's playing inside...
Let's see......... our outside receivers.

Naicos
The Moe
Degs
Crisp

All 4 have leg speed, all of these put pace on ball speed with disposal

Pendles
Sides
Hyphen
Jaicos

Probably some I've missed out.

Think we've got leg speed and ball speed covered.

I must say I quite like all the pundits jumping off us, I was never quite comfortable with all the praise.

One thing I think they’ve all forgotten is how good nick is, yes it’s been a while and their fish brains can’t remember back that far, but I can see him elevating our game to another level.
You can see Sam Walsh’s impact in finals. Can see Nick doing similar things with his work rate and kicking skills

Pendles on a show l saw, Jock and Journo, said that at 3/4 time, Elliott said to him, after the 3/4 time break, are we going defensive too early?

That suggests we went into tempo mode and why l hope that we are keeping a bit in reserve for the PF and GF.

We've been doing it the whole second half of the season.

Petrol tickets to burn.

And burn them we will

Although the article says that in the game in 2012 when he spent 48 minutes on him without Greene kicking a goal, Bruz still played an offensive game and had 18 possessions without Greene kicking a goal. In the other 59 minutes of that game, Greene kicked 5 goals against Quaynor, enough overall for the BOG award.

Greene is stronger than Quaynor, whereas Quaynor has the better speed and recovery.

Bruz has been an excellent pound for pound matchup for Greene for a long while.

I think we will win comfortably. It's Brisbane that concerns me.

If it makes you feel any better, Brisbane at the MCG this year have lost to Hawthorn, and Melbourne without Oliver, Fritsch and Petty.

IQ has grown 10 fold as a player this year. Most of those stats I’d argue are from 19-21 when Iq was good, but not elite.

I’d back him in to go to Greene if required. He’s had a j daicos growth year.

Thankfully the tribunal says we can start Maynard first.

He didn't have a good game against Brisbane from memory. He can leak goals sometime. I would prefer Maynard for his toughness and aggression.

I would look at it the same way; Maynard starts on him and a much improved IQ is plan b) with his insane one-on-one stats this year… but mostly because Greene is going to be very hard to knock out and have Bruz miss a potential GF. ;)

Cameron kicked a few on him. I’m fascinated but also a little heart-in-mouth thinking how Oleg would go on John Denver there…

He let Cameron get his usual cheapies out the back by contesting marks, so yup in that case he will learn from that and not leave Cameron.

IQ has become an elite 1v1 defender. Has pace and is great in the air.

And the best part, he’s only 23.

it's time for another heartbreak selection.

Changes to GWS since we easily beat them:

OUT: Flynn, Fleeton, Cadman, Angwin, Peatling, Haynes

IN: Briggs, Greene, Taylor, Cumming, Keeffe, Riccardi

Keeffe aside, that’s a very big upgrade.

Riccardi has been great in recent weeks, but he was just going for much of the season. Briggs will be sore and I think Coxy can jump all over him. He is not overly tall. Thye have a quality defense which we are going to have to work very hard to break down. I saw they have lost one one on one contest in recent weeks. I think King said we were 14 wins and 4 losses in defensive one on ones and they have lost one in 30 odd one on ones so far in the finals.
