Preliminary Final - StKVs Bull

Hawthorn last year, now St.Kilda this year.

Shows that if you're mediocre for long enough you'll be rewarded with No.1 picks and priority picks.

How may Top 5 picks were playing for the Saints tonight? Riewoldt, Kosi, Goddard, Ball, Ray (OK, I know!)

At least the system works.

Not suprised to see you in here trolling after a game...it's about all you do.

FWIW I feel bad for good, decent and passionate supporters like yourself Anthony (one of the better posters on this forum) ...

Hopefully for your sake, the Doggies can go one (or better yet, two) steps better next year...

I'm happy for the St Kilda football club but I'm struggling to find (many) classy Saints fan. SaintsManMat is a perfect example of why a lot of people hate the Saints.

Rather than being an ass clown, commiserate them and move on. When/If you get pumped next week you ought to be thankful that Geelong/Collingwood fans are (for the most part) classy and will not treat you the same way you're treating the Dogs.

As far as the Crows fans go, I find it funny that it's the Power fans that are supposed to be the gutter trash. I was treated with nothing but respect when I went to the Power game at AAMI. When I went to a Crows game, OMG, it's like I went into the ocean bleeding amongst a group of sharks.

You've been here long enough to know not to judge the majority by a few.
Every club has them, like it or not.

I can't believe I used to respect Nick Riewoldt and I can't believe I'm about to say this but I'm now cheering Geelong to win the flag now.

Yeah, sure, the Dogs were slow as hell today, missing targets etc etc but that first goal in the third quater by Nick Riewoldt had me lose all credibility. He's a pathetic, soft, diving dog and he's one of the reasons the dogs lost tonight. There's only one thing that'll make me feel better and that's if I get to see the diver's tears of sadness on Grand Final day.

I'd usually agree, but it's the Saint's were talking about so it's a case where it is the exception of the rule. In this instance it's a case where St. Kilda have some nice fans, but the vast majority are grade A idiots. One of my best mates that I grew up playing junior football with (his Dad was a Saints premiership player) is a Saints fan and we often talk about what it's like for him at St. Kilda games.

Edit: Finally got to see the 4th quarter up here on the Gold Coast (listened to the game on the radio). If they paid the deliberate they paid on the Bulldogs they'd pay it a dozen times every game. The Bulldogs got screwed like no other club has in AFL history. I'm not surprised though, the Saints can't win a premiership without the AFL giving them all the help possible.

I apologise to Matty Lloyd. I used to hate him more than any other player. That mantle has been taken by the captain of the Saints. I guarantee you St. Kilda would still have the success they do this season WITHOUT him.

Strange how the ABC radio commentators were scathing of Lake for what he did.

With all that evidence, you must be right.

This was one of the greatest games I have ever seen. There was a passage of play on the wing with about 5 or so minutes to go where I literally saw about 5 or 6 players freeze with the ball in open play.

I don't know how to describe it.

They didn't freeze because they wanted to. It was like the collective legs all stopped in these players at once and you almost saw them tip over as the mind asked what the body couldn't give.

Make no mistake, this was an epic game of football.

I feel so sorry for you Bulldogs supporters I really do. You're players were beyond heroic and I have truly been won over by your current playing group.

But this should not in any way cloud the efforts of St Kilda. They came up against a team who were willing to die to win, and a team who had that generational thing that possesses a team to win. Every now and again this seems to happen to a team, and it did to the Dogs tonight. For the Saints to stand up and win, was incredible.

Thanks to both teams for letting me watch this game of football.

I can't believe Riewoldt hugged the umpire (Chamberlain, I believe) after the game- you can just catch it at the side of the screen moments after he was jumping around and before his interview. Certainly was best on ground for the Saints tonight were the men in gold.

One of tyhe most pathetic results in a final EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dogs were ROBBED

AKAs out of bound deliberate was the most pathetic ump decision this year........ resulting in a goal to swing the game
Im glad Im not a betting man as you could never geta decent result with these umps.
I still think upires need to be held accountable for thier mistakes

Few things obvious after this game.

1. The umps wanted the Saints to win. Deliberate should be null and void when you kick the ball more than 30m in the direction of you own goal (let alone the 60 or so Aker made).

2. Bulldogs have absolutely **** all up forward. They even manage to make the forward line the Eagles had back in 06 consisting of Lynch look positively powerhouse.

They need someone who can at least make a contest if not mark it.

How do you prove how moronic a team's fans are as a collective bunch?

Starting with one and assuming that can be extrapolated to mean all sure isn't the way.
Anyway, you can think whatever you like. It doesn't mean it's right though.

What a bunch of whiny little girls alot of you are.

Well done Saints for wining when playing poorly. Good on you Doggies for making up alot of ground on the past two games, you exposed a weakness in the Saints Gameplan next weeks opponent is going to have a close look at.

Lets hope it's Collingwood then we can all get something out of the result... :)

I'm sure it doesn't bother you Saints fans, but I for one am going to congratulate you on making the Grand Final.

Dogs and Saints are my 2nd and 3rd teams and I was non-plussed about the result. Tough break Dogs, shame you couldn't of met each other enxt week.

So 4 then..

Its a system that makes our game one of the best in the world. Nobody wants 3 or 4 wealthy clubs dominating.

We hear this shit trotted out all the time by disgruntled footy fans trying to take something away from another teams success.

Its childish, insecure and completely missing the big picture.

Well said. Anyone whose first response to that match, is to whinge about individual player reactions or individual umpiring decisions, is clearly someone who doesn't enjoy watching Australian rules football.

A second moment that defined the game is about 2 minutes from the end when Adam Schneider had the ball on the wing, where the uber-flood meant there was almost nothing between him and the goals. He fell. To my eyes, it didn't look like he slipped on the dewy grass. It looked like his brain instructed his legs to run, and his legs just refused point blank.

For what little it might be worth for Dogs fans, to my mind they played far better tonight than they did in the '97 or '08 prelim finals.

yeah, I have to agree.

Just a great, great game. I would agree with the sentiment that the saints got the rub of the green as far as the umpiring was concerned but it did not decide the result. Brain Leak deserved the free kick at the start of the second half 100%. That sort of shit is a blight on the game and needs to be STAMPED OUT. Its just a shame that the idiot umpiring department have allowed it for so long that everyone thinks its ok.

I feel real bad for the dogs who have to be the unluckiest club in the universe. Your time is not far away. But you had to beat the cats 2 weeks ago if you wanted to go to the granny this year. The saints have well and truly earned their shot at glory this year.

even though Lenny Hayes was my BOG, how can Nick Reiwoldt not be the league MVP? Dogs win comfortably tonight if Nick is not playing.

Great post.

I saw that too and was just screaming with exhilaration. I have never seen that before.

I'm sure it has happened, but as you said; twice in as many minutes of football.

Witnessing the will of certain players outproducing what the body can give...

Number 40 for the Dogs (Harbrow I think) repelled three incredible attacks in the dying moments.

These epic games are decided by the individual efforts of players who have the capacity to go where others either can't or don't dare.

Lenny Hayes
Nick Reiwoldt
Adam Schneider
Sam Fisher
Brad Johnson
Lindsay Gilbee
Harbrow or Number 40.

Incredible.

And with the Saints getting over the line it probably defines the list above, with 4 to Saints and 3 to Dogs.

And just maybe Dogs don't win comfortably without Johnno!

We had our chances to win even with the umpires.

But after quarter time, those umpires clearly just kept on looking for ways to ping us.

It had the same feel as that penalty Italy got against Australia in the last world cup. It was simply " how could this upstart Australia dare to beat Italy"

Tonight was the same...those 3 clowns thought "how can this upstart dog team dare beat the saints"

well screw them and the afl, -- do that too often and any fair minded person will just switch off.

i went to the game,
the umpiring was disgraceful, (coming from an umpire myself).
it felt like after halftime the umpires were told by the afl to pull their heads in and make sure saints win.

a few decisions i did not think were correct - out of many.

akermanis deliberate out of bounds. - was under pressure as he kicked.

tackle on steven baker, who was holding the ball with one hand, after breaking a tackle. but was called a ball up.

bump after half time, lake on rOOvolt. im sure flies dont knock key forwards over.

anyway, i hope none of those umpires get the grand final next week.

if geelong lose tonite, i'll bypass this years grand final.
