FB: Doedee, Butts, Worrell
HB: Milera, Murray, Hinge
Smith on the bench and Dawson and Jones on the wing, Milera and Hinge can be rotated on the wings for Jones if a speedy small forward starts bullying us.
Doedee playing smaller but still having the ability to come across and mark is how you fit him and Worrell in the same side.

Long term I see Worrell getting big enough to be more CHB and pushing Murray out the team, then Michalanney comes into Worrell's old spot and Hamill/Parnell/Bond replace Smith.
Keeping Borlase on suggests they have plans for him.

Where is Jones training?

Smith is more a liability then he is an asset nowadays in the backline. Let him loose on the wing.

what we need most is smart players in the backline.

I actually think in Worrell, Doedee and Hinge we have 3 Geelong like defenders who can defend but are smart players who know when to help out and can do so with desperation and strength.

I would have those 3 in the back line myself.

That leaves Butts as the key defender and I don't mind Murray, but he scares me with his thinking in the same way Hartigan did, but even more so.

I'd prefer Worrell to be able to develop the strength to be a key Backman if possible.

So for the future you could have:

Worrell, Butts, Doedee
Hinge, Milera, Max

I don't necessarily think you need a specialist small s**t down defender, I think we've relied on this in the past because our defensive system has been really poor and we don't cover each other well enough.

A smart defence that works together should be able to cover individual speed.

In hinge Milera and max you have 3 guys that can deliver the ball out of defence really well.

Obviously we would have the ability to rotate others through the backline so I still see a role for guys like Hamill, Dawson, and Smith switching through depending on match ups, but I want Jones out of there.

If Murph and Ned remain in side I think it would greater value to have them also focus on the back half.
Jones Mainly on wing but is not getting enough of ball

The points are valid, but there is a fair bit of Mayo.

We've drafted and traded in more midfielders 185cm and above than 180cm and below since (or before) 2019.

We are a bottom 6 side and we still need to invest in our midfield. But we conceded an average of only 0.5 less clearances than our opposition. That's below average, but not one of the worst midfields in the comp.

I'd love a top 2 pick next year, but it's not happening. The top 6 pick we probably go get might nab us the blue chip mid we need to fill out our midfield (particularly if Pedlar gets his body right).
Yes.

We win plenty of the football in the midfield.. win tons of clearances..

Its how we dispose of it when we win that footy and get that clearance that is the issue..

We have had 4 main midfielders in sloane, mcrouch, keays and laird who the past 3 years that average up around and over 30 possessions a game..

4 players that all diapose of the football poorly and with no hurt factor at all.

Borlase and newchurch are still there because they are cat b’s and we have had no cat b’s to pick in the draft in the last couple if years that could be of more value.

They are essentially free hits that dont take up spots on the main/ normal rookie list

I would put my money on both lads staying on the list in 2024 too if the four year rookie rule remains and there is no other potential cat b’s the club might want to grab.

I wonder if we will continue to gift him games this year. If he’s playing wing I’d prefer he learns that in the SANFL and get some form and confidence to bring into the AFL
Unless both Jones and Ned improve greatly, I think they are going to have tough years
I'm thinking NIcks will have to start putting a line through their names.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them get some early games but then be clearly overtaken with better performing players coming through

It's not just disposal efficiency, where our inside mids go about what inside mids go for, it's hurt factor. Petracca gets on the outside and goes for 2 goal involvements a game. Laird, Crouch and Sloane would be lucky to go for 1 between them.

But Keays is above 1, Rankine is above 2.5, Schoenberg and Soligo can hit a target inside 50 and Rachele should have no issues either. They say our midfield is all the same, but there looks to be a different style of player coming through (hopefully).

Hard to disagree with most of that.

Points out our strange obsession with picking the same type of midfielder and also that out midfield is one of the worst in the comp.

I dont think we will finish bottom 2 simply because it looks like we have a fairly easy draw and we have the “interstate home ground advantage” that always sees us snag a couple of wins a year against good sides that we werent expected to win..
Don’t reckon we will come anywhere near bottom 2 …. 9 or 10 wins is what I see happening

Seriously.. what are these lads drinking?..

Vodka, soda and red cordial?..

What is with the youth of today?..

The young NRL lads are the same..

big, burly tough lads build like brick shithouses..

and yet everytime you see them with a drink in their hands its something like a strawberry vodka cruiser..

Man up you fairies..

No..

Im 48… I’m a straight white male who finds homophobia in any form utterly disgraceful..

And I called them fairies.. not members of the LGBTIQ community. So I’m not sure what long bow youre trying to draw..

Not entirely sure how you can find homophobia utterly disgraceful but accept judgements of a person based on their drinking preferences/levels of masculinity. It's built on the same founding principle that what you naturally enjoy is somehow shameful. Yikes.

Another one drawing long bows..

Just how is the choice of drink one choses able to be linked to ones sexual orientation?
