Which of these players do you think will be selected in the Crows' Round 1 team?

No worries.

Obviously, that's the only response to the fact that Collingwood paid to have a player go away, and replaced him with a minimum wager on his third club.

You know, if you thought Grundy was so valuable, you could have had him at the Crows for free ...
Salary cap ring a bell, ahhh what am I doing

Yep.

You can spend a lot on a ruck and have to pay for him to go away, or you can spend minimum wage and have your team play exactly as well or better.

Grundy is still ON Collingwood's salary cap.

Mate, I just don't think there's an argument that helps the point you were trying to make.

Grundy was on a monster long term contract, once signed his form wavered and he started getting injuries. For them the safe bet was mitigating his contract. Melbourne the premiers from 2 years ago still thought it prudent to have 2 quality ruckman on their list and they’d still be paying Grundy a decent amount.

This isn’t the example you think it is.

Anyway, you sucked me in again.

Gawn? and TTFN
There's always a place for good tall blokes - but Gawn was acting like another midfielder, and will spend a lot more time forward this year.

Anyway, no stress that we disagree. I don't think this is something that I would change my mind about, fwiw - and fair enough if you feel the same.

Interestingly Melbourne used a rookie pick on a developing SA ruckman, will be interesting to see how his career goes. They haven’t made too many poor list errors lately and they can see the sense of having one on your list

Let’s hope he’s a good tall bloke, and ACTS like a midfielder because then he’s not a ruckman

Fawn forward is not much threat, his kicking for goal is shut your eyes and hope for the best

On the whole 'having a serviceable ruck is fine' argument, I agree but Rob hasn't been in serviceable form for 2 years.

He has been nothing but a hinderance around the stoppage and now he cant even hold a mark. Don't get me started on his poor ruckwork.

Time to move on from the most unnatural footballer I have ever seen.

Looks above average to me

Is there a world, where Thilthorpe main rucks this season or a largely load?
We would be a better team if he did, but coaches love O'Brien for some reason.

I think will eventually be the number 1 ruck and we'll find a FF or CHF to complement Fog down the road. Tex is still pretty solid and if he has a good year will go again, himmelberg can hold the fort while a young guy develops, just needs to have a good run in the best 22 in the same spot.

clearly hes not elite if he is 8th out of 18 teams

i trust the afl website more than some other "stats" site
He's not elite but he is above average, which is top 33% per the AFL website.

His stoppage and defensive stats, from the AFL website, are a mixture of average, above average and elite. Ie above average.

He's 8th out of 47 rucks and the 107th best player in the AFL (per Stats Insider), which is again above average.

While I wouldn't mind an elite ruck, I think we have more important list needs to target first. The bigger issue is that he is 27 and so is Strachan. We will need to draft or trade in a ruck soon, but an above average ruck would be fine.
