And then when the opposition FB decides to go for a run he'll be like Fev standing there with his hands on his hips relying on someone else to pick up his man.

My call to bag Notte and reorder our draft priorities based on one second hand quote from Neil Daniher can't be doubted ;)

Lets put this in perspective. It's not like he can't run at all.

He can run and he's a very athletic kid. He spent half the season at Swans playing as a lead up forward and winger. He was also one of the best performing in the finals.

He doesn't have the lung capacity to run all day like a midfielder, but a FF chasing a defender trying to run off him at every chance doesn't run anywhere near that amount regardless.

Have a look at the Metro press conference on the WCE website. There is some footage of players in there. Jordan Jones looks to have out on a few KG of muscle.

True enough, just that when someone says 'he's got a small lung capacity, but that's ok cause we're going to play him out of the goal square' that to me is redolent of your old style full forward who didn't bother too much with fitness or defensive pressure as long as he could kick a few.

Hopefully they're just saying he won't be a Riewoldt-type player as you suggest.

I dont particularly care about his lung capacity or whether he can run or not I'm more concerned about his physique. If that photo in today Worst is fairly current he presents more like a survivor of Belsen than someone on an AFL List, frankly I thought he looked disgraceful. I have some real concerns about this lad.

Bad news on Notte Lung Capacity problem , IMO we should'nt overtrain him , let him put on some weight see how he goes .

I have confidence that the fitness/rehab and medical staff will have a plan on how best to assist Mr Notte reach his potential. If he has a good attitude then there is a good chance that he can achieve the best out of himself. Whether his best is good enough to be a good AFL player is something that we will wait to see.

His lungs do raise further doubts. If he does not infact ever get to a playable weight for a full forward at least 90 kilos, then he has no AFL career, he cant be used as a third tall as some have suggested and in Modern football while full forwars dont need massive tanks, they can get hurt going the other way if they dont. Ala Fev.

There was a good post from a Geelong supporter in one of the Notte threads earlier this year drawing comparisons between Notte and Mackie - if you look back at some of the early comments from Geelong supporters, there are a lot of similarities to the comments on Notte this year.

Mackie was 192/73 at 18yo when drafted and seen as a potential forward, now he's listed at 192/84 at 25yo and playing very good football as a rebounding defender/wing - Notte is listed as couple of cm taller, but was skinnier when drafted (194/71?), although 8 months younger - that would suggest mid 80kgs would be a likely projected weight when he fully matures, which obviously is never going to be enough for a key forward given most defenders would have 10-15kg of muscle on him, but will be enough to withstand the physical blows at AFL - he has shown he is versatile, skilled and smart enough to play in defence, on a wing or as a forward, I think there's always going to be a spot for him in the team when he's ready.

I think we should wait a little before passing judgements.

His lung capacity is apparently not great but that doesnt mean it cant be developed - we have probably the best fitness / conditioning expertise around so I'm sure they would be sorting out a program for him.

He is still only 18/19 so there is a looong way to go before we can say that he would not be able to put on muscle.

The guy kicked 31 goals in the WAFL last season and played around 15 games from memory so hes not without ability.

I think as long as there are signs of improvement each year - then keep him on the list. As Swannies said earlier this year - I'm sure if we delisted him somebody would pounce - and we would have put in 3 seasons' development into him for them.

You need to go and read the rules of "contributing" to BF again, that is NOTTE in them! Go and have a good think about your attitude!:D

Do you reckon Mackie's position in the side is the cause or the effect of his weight though? As in, is he now 84kg because they decided his best position was running flanker? Or was that physically the biggest he could get, and he just ended up there by default?

Notte would have to be very fit to play the Mackie role. And it would be a waste of his talents around goal too. I think he has to make it to 90kg somehow.
