yep then we stuck him in the forward line for years and wondered why he was no good, then put him in the midfield and were surprised when he actually played well
hasn't been trialed on HB, which is where his skillset is suited to

WCE have always loved drafting a small midfielder then only playing them as a forward pocket/HFF. Even in the Woosha days we did this.
You mean we had a speedy HBF all this time chasing his tail in the forward line???yep then we stuck him in the forward line for years and wondered why he was no good, then put him in the midfield and were surprised when he actually played well

Even if he is playing out of position you’d imagine if this was true we’d have seen it even occasionally in his 88 games.i just found out that Jack Petruccelle was drafted as a half-back/inside midfielder who had one of the highest contested possession rates of his draft class...
Haven't we been looking for someone to fit that role...
These development issues go deep... it's like a rabbit hole
Nope.Get Out!
I agree Smith was worth more, but it's more a case of Geelong screwing Bulldogs. Would have thought he was worth a top 10 pick.Guess we have to agree to disagree, though lots of posters seem to agree with you.
I rate Bailey Smith considerably higher than Baker. About 4 years younger and I think he's capable of winning a Brownlow. Yes he's got mental health issues but has a reputation for being a dedicated professional. Bevo seems like a love or hate coach and I don't think Smith would have had the same issues under a different coach. Though no way to factor check this.

The only thing that’s constantly said about Petro is he’s ‘pacy’. Nothing ever about having a contested game. And even his pace is only straight line - meaning he runs hard at a player who takes half a step to the side and watches Petro fly past.

However, he is mentally weak and I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of the game completely in a couple of years. Started with his draft year and refusing to leave Vic and his behaviour at the Bulldogs was appalling once things weren't going his way. It says a lot that he effectively left the club for 12 months while rehabbing ACL and had no regard for helping them get fair value.
Hey thanks for the detailed reply.Maximal Aerobic Speed. The lowest velocity at which maximal oxygen uptake occurs.
In other words, it's effectively the highest speed (in this case running) at which your aerobic system can meet energy demands without relying on anaerobic processes.
Most common ways of determination are 2km time trials or 30-15 tests - sounds like the latter was used during the recent training session.
I'd argue that the 2km method provides superior results, but they take much longer to host as players need to be separated into small groups to prevent drafting from skewing the outcomes - whereas a 30-15 could do the whole team in less then 20 minutes, and the results are still very good.
For what it's worth, elite distance runners often have MAS scores in the 24-25km/h range.
J.Ingebrigtsen famously achieved a 22km/h score at 18.
It will be a baseline for akin to zone 2 or 80:20 style threshold training I would expect, but obviously in a far more sophisticated manner.
I was at Subi sitting with a Melbourne based recruiter when Petch was playing back pocket in the first half then wing in the second half. He did not have much impact that day. The recruiter stated that the problem with him was that nobody knows where to play him. No way in hell was he an inside mid and similar to your statement he had the highest contested possession rate. Not sure on your source but I went back and checked out the notes I had taken.i just found out that Jack Petruccelle was drafted as a half-back/inside midfielder who had one of the highest contested possession rates of his draft class...

I believe Petch isn't a natural footballer - ie runs fast but limited talent.I was at Subi sitting with a Melbourne based recruiter when Petch was playing back pocket in the first half then wing in the second half. I believe our development issues have been poor but this is not the right example

Yep. I think you can paper over a few deficits if you’ve got footy smarts. Without that, any scrutiny picks up the other flaws. That's fair, it isn't clear what his football strengths are. He's not a particularly good kick, nor is he good by hand.
Smaller and leaner players usually get around that disadvantage by being creative and having high footy iQ (i.e. Rioli, Ryan, Dewar, LeCras, etc), or having a really good aerobic base and good skills (Gaff, Cripps, etc). It isn't clear to me that Petch fits into either category.
