Our smalls will be better when they have someone tall that can bring the ball to ground, plus they havent all played together very much, so it'll take time chemistry wise.
Exactly. And we share the goal scoring, that's one of our advantages. It makes us unpredictable to the opposition. Checkers kicks 3 on Sunday .. who knows who will bob up this Sunday. Our forward structure worked the best in the first 2 rounds when both McStay and Checkers were there. I'm sure it will improve when Cox comes back in & can drop back there and bring the ball to ground, or alternatively mark & goal himself.

Markov will keep his spot imo. Markov will either be in the backline or take Ginni's or Bobby's spot, pending form as to who stays.
He passed the ball quite well against the Crows at times,he did do some nice things in the last qtr and we need a bit of speed.

In terms of Framptons past performances in the ruck role. His previous career best was 15 hitouts with 8 years on AFL lists. His past 3 games are all better (I didn't double check the stats).
Unsurprising given he’s never played full time ruck, only ruck forward afaik.

I also do not know how he was in the past but is big enough and strong enough to hold his ground now. He was pretty good in the final qtr so he is able to run out games well, he was also rucking against 2 again with very little help. Johnson is not a ruck although he has a great leap but the bigger boys just put their bodies on him and he is not able to jump which is his greatest asset.

I’m not concerned about his disposal numbers. I am concerned about his current inability to take possession of ground balls cleanly, and his terribly inaccurate goal kicking he’s shown this year. I don’t know if it’s a confidence thing or if age is catching up with him, but it’s a worry.
We'd all like him to be going better, but your call for him to be dropped to the twos is ridiculous.

At the start of the season I was looking forward to seeing Reef explode in our forward line. Round 1 he kicks 2 and has 4D, Round 2 he kicks 1 and gets 10D. But that was in a forward line with McStay and we had a ruckman.

Now we have no ruck and we're asking Checkers to be the main focus when AJ is rucking. Could it hurt to bring in a bit of height and forward-defensive pressure with Reef who is capable of a leap and/or bringing the ball to ground?

Feels like he hasn't done much in the VFL unfortunately but I think his versatility could help our smaller forwards.

Maybe...

OUT: Krueger (inj), Kelly (sub), Ginnivan (omitted)
IN: Pendlebury, McInnes

Also would be good to have Ruscoe as sub instead of Kelly.

Agree. The talk about dropping him is ludicrous.
Not to mention egregious

2 hard games in 5 days at 31 Jamie does need a rest and if we had more options I would have done already he got hammered 2 weeks ago against Sts and he looked a bit restricted before then.

I never called for him to be dropped but at 31 he needs a rest,2 games like the last 2 anyone would need a rest and if we had the players available that what would probably happen.

No doubt.

But it's the same for all three of our smalls - Hill, Ginni and Elliott - as they are all diminished by the injuries to our talls.

I wouldn't drop any of them btw, just making the point that he's getting off easy around here considering both Elliott and Ginni have played better than him in the last couple of weeks and contributed in some ways to our wins.
I largely agree with you, and also wouldnt be dropping any of them
But I do think elliot and and gini have lead-marking as a significant component of their game

Yeah, big expectations. It summed it up for me in the gather round - Ginnivan scrubbed a kick forward - Elliott ran onto the bouncing ball at full pace, wheeled around an opponent and dobbed the goal from 45 close to the boundary line whilst running at full pace - and the discussion on here was about Ginni's incredible footy IQ.
100% agree

6. His GPS data would tell the club whether he needs a break. Our eyes, through a TV, can't. That he was lively in the last quarter might suggest he is going ok. Only a third of the way through the season. If needed, rest later.

Maybe it's confidence for Jamie, is down on some form, maybe? Maybe because he is getting older and has had a brutal career with injuries, is his body slowing down? We don't know. Hopefully he can work himself back into form. There is time, and he has credits in the bank.
If he does need a rest at some point, that's what they'll do.

It's tough being a forward sometimes with the way the F50 entries have been entering.

All I see is frustration from missing goals he would have nailed last year .. it's affecting his confidence and he's never been one to hide his disappointment. The fitness staff would know if he's exhausted or needs a break. He does plenty of the hard, chasing, pressure, tackling stuff every match. And his experience down there for Ginni, Bobby, AJ & Beau would be invaluable.

And even though he is Handsome Jamie he does have a bit of a resting b1tch face.

You can definitely see his frustration, which would get in his head also. Just needs to back himself. Maybe get some early easy goals next week and hopefully helps build his confidence up.
Yeah, his experience would help the younger guys, and he would be the most experienced forward (or one of them) on field amongst some inexperience.

As soon as he kicks a goal or 2, or another clutch goal... all those who have been calling for him to be dropped due to exhaustion will be silent 😉

What he adds is brains that is what you do not seem to understand, the only players who read the play better are Pendles and Daicos and we know where they stand in the scheme of things.

What is this crap about milking free,s for every one he milked in your eyes they missed 3 he should have received anyway,Kirby is right he does not deserved to be dropped, they wanted him lift in final qtr and he did.
Agree - Ginnivan is a very smart footballer, and you can’t teach footy IQ.
It’s that sort of clear thinking under pressure that wins games.

They are consistently poor at the MCG in recent times. In their match against Melbourne earlier this season they looked completely inept at defending transitions around the ground with the larger and wider space when compared with the SCG.

I think they will really really struggle to defend our ball movement when in full swing as we will have much more space to work with on the wings (we like it) that we didn’t have in last years prelim up there, where they plugged us through the middle leaving us back against the wall with nowhere to go on that crappy ground

We smash this lot.

Out of the 3 smalls ( Elliot Ginni and hill) Elliot is the safest because even when he isn’t impacting the scoreboard he is still impacting the contest with score involvements and tackles. If Ginni isn’t kicking goals he is a liability big time. Hill has been serviceable although quite last 2 weeks.

Out: 6 wins
In: 7 Wins.
