List Mgmt. Priddis Signs On Again

I choked on my coffee when I saw it on our website this morning...

I don't think this is a signing based on form, otherwise we'd be looking at it at the end of the season.

Surely we have a transitional role for him to move into next year as a depth player with development responsibilities. That's my guess. Hope. Dream...

And news just in West Coast Eagles announces name change. From 09/06/2017 onwards we shall be called West Coast Retirement Village, the club that takes on previous champions of the game and will never give young guys a shot.

That's "Perth" retirement village.

Thx

Just can't see any reason for this decision. 32 year old, declining in form and body in a position West Coast have plenty of cover.

The teams media machine was in full swing yesterday, dropping a heap of news they knew would cause problems just before this weeks team lists were released to try and hide it.

We don't have a game this week.

I just don't understand how of all the comments, that's the one they respond to.

The issue is that the club has no strategy or focus that they've ever explained to the fans. Whoosh, for his flaws, used to explain what he was trying to do and when he thought we'd get there. Simmo says we are average but we re sign the object of our mediocrity 6 months before we needed to and without any clear reason as to why. What us the aim of this signing? What is the club strategy? Where do they think we are? Where are we headed? How does this help us get there?

Instead we get "We are right, **** off" (slight paraphrase) from a 12 year old spokesperson on Twitter. How does this signature move us from average to above average? Stocksy? I know you read this... :)

Hypothetical: What is Priddis was offered an "almost-minimum" contract to be solid depth for next year, and being the awesome bloke that he is, said yes?
I can think of far worse situations than having Priddis as a Sheed backup next year.

It's a nice hypothetical, there's just absolutely no evidence that suggests it's a possibility.

Depending on what happens in the back half of this year and what list changes we are faced with at the end of the season there may well be a justification of some sort for retaining Priddis on our list in 2018. But that decision didn't need to be made now and all it's done is confuse people on where the club is headed and create/strengthen doubts that the people handling the controls at the club are aware that they are fast approaching the edge of a cliff with this list. Or that they are in complete denial and don't see the need for change.

By his own admission, Simpson is already phasing Priddis out and he's not going to get any better as the reality of time and age catch up. He may well provide some benefit in 2018 but it's hard to see what that might be or why it was so pressing that he needed to be re-signed mid year. It'll be even more annoying if the half of Pritchell we keep in 2018 is the Priddis one, because the Mitchell half has been far better in 2017 and is looking the most likely to contribute next year but even that decision can be left until 2017 is finished.

The following players have already turned 30 or do so this year :

12/10/82 - Mitchell (35) - Contracted as a player or coach until 2020
15/10/82 - Petrie (35) - Rookie listed for 2017 only
21/03/85 - Priddis (32) - Was out of contract 2017. Now 2018
14/01/86 - Butler (31) - Out of contract 2017
30/08/86 - LeCras (31) - Out of contract 2017
25/08/87- Kennedy (30) - Out of contract 2019
04/09/87 - Hurn (30) - Out of contract 2018

In addition Mackenzie, Wellingham and Giles all turn 30 next year. Giles (2018) is the only one of that trio for a contract beyond 2017

All of those players should have to wait until the season is finished before a decision is made on their futures. No idea why Priddis wasn't made to do the same

I hope this board can see its way clear to letting this go, to letting Priddis go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.

We demand honest loyalty.

You'd be so pissed off being drafted to this club. "You don't have any credits, so you get to play at East Perth for the first couple of years". Cue the homesickness rumours and then we'll get **** all for them when they want to go home.

If Parto doesn't get a gig next week there's every chance i'll spontaneously explode.
We wonder why we got nothing out of all those gold coast and gws wa kids

Heres your answer - what player manager would advise coming back home where you will be hff'ed to death.

Seeing as we are throwing darts...

Perhaps Priddis had already committed to taking a pay cut to fund Smitchell for 2018 - the Hawks are paying some of his salary this year IIRC. With his form tapering and the media starting to sharpen their knives maybe Pridda called the club on the arrangement and so pen was put to paper.

In this hypothetical I don't have a problem with the club meeting and honouring obligations they make to players. The microscope should go to the quality and foreseeable consequences of the commitments they give.
