List Mgmt. Priddis Signs On Again

I dont see this as the end of the world. Surely the club isnt naive enough to see we need to move on from Pridda.

Im hoping this contract is a reward for being a loyal club servant. Pretty much what the Crows did with Scott Thompson.
Nothing like what the Crows did with Scott Thompson. Adelaide waited until September to give him a contract for this year and he was sat down at the end of the year and told that he likely wouldn't play much AFL but would be given a coaching role and used as backup.
This is what we should have done with Priddis and if we had then I doubt there would be as much negativity surrounding his signing on for next year. Signing him in the middle of the year when we have no idea what the rest of the season will bring is an absolutely moronic decision by the club.

Priddis has already been rewarded as a loyal club servant by being the featured piece of the consistently poorest midfield we have had in our clubs history....

This year is his extra year for retirement money. Next year is just taking the piss.

By the way, on Twitter, the same club spokesmen (Gary Stocks) suggested we were crazy for suggesting in mid 2014 that the club needed to move on from Dean Cox "best ruckman ever - tough call " was the response..,

But at least we didn't extend him in spite of old man Stocks thoughts. He's wrong again this time but unfortunately the rest of the club appears to have gone senile with him.

No name dabbler Board. 60 year old CEO. 60 year old spokesman. Average game day fan age about 60... The club needs a reboot

If this was done at the end of the year I could see your point and would even be inclined to agree with it

By doing this mid year though indicates he was some sort of priority signing and remains a key plank of our planning going forward. It's that part that confuses and irritates in equal measure

And the club declines to provide any sort of explanation of its thinking; of its direction or its strategy.

Instead we get the clubs head of communications belittling supporters and simply stating "he's a superstar". Are they really this delusional?

More importantly, given the faceless board and the rusted on CEO, how exactly are fans meant to communicate or get anything from the club?

We offered McGinnity and Brown contracts last season and both chose to reject them. Priddis now. Arguably Butler shouldn't have got a contract, although we had a significant turnover last off season.

If we were totally ruthless we would have paid Fraser out and taken another pick in the rookie draft.

Hindsight says Redden was a bad move, but at the time I think most were okay with it.

The big ones are what happens with EMac and Lecca over the next while.
After this I guarantee Butler, Mackenzie and LeCras are on the list next year. Who are these campaigners.

I think we have to trust Simmo on this one as he has shifted Priddis's role slightly ..Reports indicate Priddis started on bench v GCS and has been given minutes on a HFF flank so Simmo is aware of finding replacements .
I'm all for this, but if simmo was actively trying to reduce his minutes/do a swallow to him, he wouldn't sign him until the end of the year.

Honestly if there is someone on here who joined June '17 whinging about this, it's probably simpson.

I'd be genuinely baffled and will appear on the podcast with my pants off. **** me they'll all be offered coaching roles anyways. Inbreed them!!!!
1) You're always baffled
2) I already do the podcast with my pants off

So you're not offering anything new

Its what they like to do... sort of become a sport in itself. Never let the facts get in the way of a good hate!
I like Priddis, he's been a fantastic servant for the club who has been unfairly criticised at times and on balance its fair to say I'm generally supportive of the club. Some might even accuse me of being a fanboi

One of the things that irks me most with this is that re-signing Priddis gives legitimate ammunition to many of what I believe are OTT critics of Priddis and the club

Try as I may I can't find any logical reasoning to do this now and for the first time under Simpsons tenure as coach I'm genuinely concerned on the direction the club seems to be taking. It makes no sense at this point in time

What's more, judging by the clubs response through social media they don't get why fans aren't jumping over the moon at the announcement

Well I've done some research and found that we can get Swallow, Thompson and Boyd for pretty much free (just need to pay their salaries) and put together an excellent midfield unit.

2018 midfield

M.Priddis, M.Boyd, A.Swallow, S.Mitchell, S.Thompson

Brent Harvey anyone? At least he is quick..

Seeing as we are throwing darts...

Perhaps Priddis had already committed to taking a pay cut to fund Smitchell for 2018 - the Hawks are paying some of his salary this year IIRC. With his form tapering and the media starting to sharpen their knives maybe Pridda called the club on the arrangement and so pen was put to paper.

In this hypothetical I don't have a problem with the club meeting and honouring obligations they make to players. The microscope should go to the quality and foreseeable consequences of the commitments they give.
at the rate he's playing, a draftee provides us with greater cap space.

For a club who's main attribute is supposedly it's business acumen, this is an unbelievable poor business decision.
I was talking to an ex board member the other week about how troubled I was with the club's current direction and the response I received was very troubling. They legitimately think we're still in full premiership mode.

I also get the feeling that there is an unhealthy influence from the board/executives on the coaching and game day staff.

No evidence/inside knowledge but just from the way Simmo went about things when he was first appointed and even the little things nowadays tell me that he is not fully in control and this shits me.

I think the issue at present is we have an almost invisible Board and so the old guard at the club are completely in charge.

Nisbett has never been Cook and he knows that. It was all set for him to get an AFL job 10 years ago until the drugs issue undermined his credibility. So after that interview where he said his role was increasingly a young man's gig, he's been stuck with that gig. He wasn't going back to teaching :)

He has built the current club and it's administration. He has utilised guys like Tim Gepp internally and Stocksy externally to exercise that control. He reasonably could have been removed post 2007 given the findings of the Gillard report. It certainly killed his ability to move elsewhere within the game.

So we are stuck with him and his 30 years at the club mean that he is the singularly most significant player at the club. Our Board is currently one of the weaker, least significant groups we've ever had. Perhaps the early 2000's Board was worse - when Nisbett used Gepp to undermine the Coach (and I'm not a fan of Judge but that's hardly the point).

Nisbett is 60 in a young man's game, with experience of one club only in a small town. He's likely prone to becoming insular and conservative given those factors.

The 2 Steve's revitalised Freo and while they didn't win the Premiership they significantly altered the perception of the club. Rosich was our guy. Groomed to take over from Nisbett until the shit hit the fan and Nissy stayed. The period since then has been a period of mediocrity glossed over by a surprise GF appearance in which our long suspected flaws were clearly exposed. Unfortunately they perpetuated the idea in some that we were close, and that we still are. Especially elderly conservative guys living in a comfortable bubble. Re signing Priddis is just an extension of that thinking IMO.

I hope Simmo isn't on board. I hope he is trying to rotate Priddis out of that role. I hope he is trying to fix our average-ness, to make us a genuine contender sooner rather than later. I'm not entirely convinced that's the case but I hope it is.

But Stocksy announcing that Priddis is a superstar in response to being questioned on the re signing is borderline delusional. I mean he used to be a reporter who asked questions. Obviously he's bought into the Nisbett retirement plan. :)

For his flaws, Woosh could and did stand up to Nisbett (see Gepp exiting the club under Woosh). Judge had no power base at the club, nor does Simpson. Nisbett runs the show.

Everything starts there.

Rant over :)

There is no way that can be true..... I hope

We need an "over 30? One year max" policy and the players should be understanding of that.

We just have players drop off incredibly fast when the cliff arrives.
I reckon that air travel really affects players more as they crack 30.
