I don't really know who would put thier hand up? Scott Burns, Leon Cameron, Nathan Bassett, Shaun Rehn, Alan Richardson (He seems to have applied everywhere) are the only 5 I can think of

Primus had to go and the entire board, recruiters, and any other management must be kicked out. Refresh with outsiders. It's the only way out for Port.

Primus is not the problem, the board, recruiting staff, the coaching dept. (as a whole) is to blame.

I still support Port but i need to see change, from the top down. It seems all the hope that was present at the start of the season is now gone. Unfortunately with the trade concessions to GWS and GC in the last couple of years, i don't see any hope on the horizon.

You feel like shit and that's understandable. I wouldn't worry about the trade concessions. Too much hype gets made about early draft picks by the media. You can still draft well if the recruiters do their homework but you need good recruiters to do this. From my team's experience, what got lost with the Michael Voss "shopping spree" and the unrelenting media hate that followed was the fact we have recruited much better under Vossy's regime, 2008-, than under Leigh Matthews from 2002-2007. Although it remains to be seen if things pan out long term the signs are promising so far even tho there is still work to do.

That being said Vossy needed to have continued backing from the Board (after the chairman Tony Kelly stepped down), given a fair go considering the situation then and his zero coaching experience when he came on board. The thing working against Primus is that he had assistant coaching experience behind him although I think the decision to not continue with Primus is still a huge overreaction there is no turning back now.

Your next coach cannot be Rehn or another guy from within like Primus was. It has to be an outsider. There will be some AFL assistant coach out there or WAFL/SANFL/VFL coach that will be up to the challenge and that guy will pick his own coaching staff, but there should be a change at board level before this can go ahead.

Geelong is a perfect example of this - Duncan and Christensen went at 20 and 40 respectively and they are guns now. I know they walked into a better system to start with but hey there's hope!

AFL need to demand Port sack Rhode for benefit of competition, has nearly sent 2 clubs to the wall, how the hell can a guy like that survive 10 years in powerful club positions, Port have bowed to media pressure instead of getting rid of the real problems

This is the real issue with port. I seems easy to call for the head coaches head but we have recruited horribly over the last 5 years.

Find new recruiters and this club might go somewhere.

I really wouldn't want to take on the job if I were one of them.

Why? McCartney took the Bulldogs job? Why wouldnt one of them want to take the Port job? Why wouldnt a young coach want the chance to rebuild a club? An outsider is going to get the chance to do whatever they like to the list. That will be attractive for many.

There is talent in the list. Get the right conditioning coach in, get the players up to physical and aerobic standard and the results will come. Get the skills up to standard and the results will come. Look at the difference between West Coast '10 and West Coast '11, almost entirely because of their improvement in skills. It can happen.

With respect Macca, it was probably attractive to Primus.

Bit different. Primus got it by default. Primus had been at the club continuously since 1997. Primus still had players on the list he had played with. Primus probably had favourites. Different to a bloke coming in from the outside with no bias about the squad and happy to make the hard calls.
