Nonsense. Stick to fantasy about your own club.
Just like the OP.
Was PA called Port Adelaide Power in the SANFL? Was their logo and team Guernsey the same?

Can’t be the same club no matter how much you try and piggy back off that club’s legacy it’s a completely different entry created for the AFL under a new license

Port Adelaide Football Club created a new team to be part of the AFL.
A new financial entity yes, as did Geelong in 1999.
A new logo and team mascot yes, as did Geelong in 1924.

So leave your trolling of history at the Bay.

Do people actually think that if Port Adelaide was some brand new entity in the AFL and in no way affiliated with the club that competed in the Sanfl, they would just accept the AFL stealing the Port Adelaide name? And why would the AFL create a brand new 2nd team in SA and call them Port Adelaide, alienating every other Sanfl supporter, and not just some generic name like they did with Adelaide, like Southern Power etc?

Lol we are a foundation club ,Don’t pretend it’s the same thing the PA Power are a completely new franchise that doesn’t have any history before it was created in the AFL

Lol stealing …didn’t the PA SANFL club sell their name to join the AFL to create a new club ?

“ two teams, the Magpies AND the AFL team.”

So yes not the same club , two different entities

I think it’s a stupid idea but you can maybe see some point to it from 1888 onward - that’s when the VFA formally adopted and controlled “the premiership”.

Prior to that it was an “informal title decided by press consensus”. It wasn’t even a freaking league premiership or award! It’s bloody laughable. Talk about the most absurd form of revisionist history.

Geelong “won” (ie were given an informal title by… somebody) 7 of the 11 prior to this.

And the Geelong bloke wants them included.

Jeez I wonder what his motivation is.

I mean **** me, it’s so ridiculous it’s laughable.

How about we tell him he can only include premierships from 1888 when… wait for it… the league actually decided and awarded premierships.

Tipping he won’t be so keen.

Trolling doesn't become you.

Knowing the difference between a club and a team should be a basic concept for a football supporter.

But if you are like many that mask their ignorance by ridiculing those around them, well, I can't help that.

Having an opinion isn’t trolling you just don’t agree with my stance, PA magpies and The PA power are two seperate entities…hence it is not the same club

As much as I hate port I have to say you are wrong. The Port Adelaide Football Club were issued the 2nd license from the SANFL. They had to change their name, jumper and colours because of Collingwood already in the competition. Port Adelaide would have loved to have kept the name and jumper.

Disagree

“there would have to be two teams, the Magpies AND the AFL team.”

Anyway this is getting very off topic , I really don’t care for the extra flag push either way …I just don’t agree that PA is the same club as the PA in the SANFL

It'd make sense if the original vfa teams weren't awarded premierships based on the "feel" by the media.
One of the years Geelong won a premiership playing 3 games (against teams not even part of the association)whilst the other teams played 10

Sure!

I mean, it’s the same club right?

Chuck them all in there.

You can even have the 300 WAFL flags from the Freo clubs if you like - that’d wind up the old buggers a bit.
I’ve already done the math, it’s 53 total including East & South Freo.

How do you count the first bunch of premierships considering they were awarded by the press via consensus?

What a joke!!!

From 1877 until 1887, the premiership was a title given to the best performing team, determined largely by press consensus. These premierships, as well as premierships between 1870 and 1876 decided in the same manner prior to the foundation of the VFA, were at the time an informal title, but have since been considered official.

Very generous of the Port Adelaide Football Club to launch a decade long campaign to dissolve itself and give everything it had to a new unrelated entity also called Port Adelaide Football Club. Makes you wonder why they'd do it.

1897 is an obvious countback point to flags and it should stay there for official tallies. However, i'd argue that if you're talking about flags from 100 years ago to try to legitimise yourself as a football club, you're probably not travelling too well in the modern era or you have small man syndrome. That absolutely goes for our SANFL flags too.

Old flags are for the clubs that won them. Nobody else should or will give a shit.
