Hopefully his last year, besides couldnt we trade him for free, waste of space

Cripes

You don't think we are reading a bit to much into a pre - season match against an opponent who has had 3 more weeks pre-season training than us ?

Don't get me started! On the tough guy pills again last night against 18 - 19 year old kids which is the McPhee way. It's a dam shame his kick was the one that put them in front. Seriously I wish Lloyd nailed that goal now, McPhee deserves no praise after his pathetic performance last night.

I detest BOTH their Macs. McVeigh is a filthy little sniper too. There ain't too many players I'd find myself grinning inside if they copped a serious injury, that's unsportsmanlike, but geez, McPhee pushes that envelope!!

Pro: Watching Knights trying to hold back his elation at winning a pre- season match and hearing Lloyd say they wanted to atone for last years round 22 match....ummm maybe aim to win round 1 of the real season?

Also: Hudson played a fantastic game. Honestly the difference between our midfielder being good and being awesome. With out him we'd get bustled around like school boys. It was probably his best 3qts since the middle of last year when injuries started to take a toll. That's right, he needs to be managed and I'm guessing he wouldn't have even played if the game was in Darwin such is his importance to the team.

I'm with you Butane. His 2nd and 3rd efforts seem to go unnoticed, and his body work is priceless to the midfield. Cam Wight on the other hand....I have spent the last few seasons defending him, but his end of 08 season form was woeful, and he went down a peg from there Friday night. A tall running winger...at a pinch, but that need would be better served by Everitt inho. 7' tall and useless overhead.... God does have a sense of humour.

How many talls you play up forward depends on the type of tall. You could comfortably play 3 or 4 guys like Grant who play tall but are quick, put on defensive pressure and are good at ground level. But youd only want somewhere between 0 and 1 minsons for example.

That is is right on the money Stefoid. Forward pressure is the new "buzz", and teams will play that way. If you cannot put pressure on the oppo's backmen they obviously set up their attacks too easily. Whilst I love the concept of 3 talls, they MUST be able to run, tackle, harass, and be able to pick up a ball on the run. When you have "mediums" like Murph, Welsh, Hahn, Johnno, (Can all take the big grab),we only need a 2nd mobile tall forward, and Grant on a flank can do that. The thought of Skip and Will and Grant all up forward at one time would worry me.

p.s. i was a Skipper supporter, but sadly i've fallen off that wagon.
Originally I backed them both...
Skip is still clinging to my wagon. He at least is some insurance, and does offer some positives to certain structures. He has role. Wight however, has well and truly been booted from it, and I see absolutely no opening for him...period. I do however u/stand delisting costs etc., so Willy will enjoy a strong season from him.

Would you be happy if they kept Williams up forward. I personally think we have the players we need down back. I would be very happy to see Tom tried out up forward for an extended period. Off course this needs him on the paddock.

I wouldn't mind Tommygun up forward, but on a game by game basis. If there isn't a suitable match up down back, I'd send him forward, otherwise keep him in defence.

I agree with to an extent that our backline can hold its own without him, but alot of that relies on a Tiller or Everitt stepping up and performing well regularly.

I get annoyed with comments like this. I mean in general. You don't have to be sarcastic and exaggerate like this, it's just well..i dunno..very school yard. It is possible that in this case Essendon fans could have jeered with out the ejaculation. But for the sake of a bigfooty argument you just take the extreme and go for the 'deadly quite'. Football supporters and the patriotism that goes with it makes me laugh. In a way it's a little embarrasing but that's what we love about football. /rant.
Why would you get annoyed when the first post is the one you should be 'annoyed' at. Being sarcastic is all a stupid post like the earlier one deserved.

Do you even know what jeered means? Why would a crowd jeer after a 1 point win?

So it's embarrassing to be happy with a 1 point win? Your post is utter rubbish. Your contention is that we shouldn't have been so pleased after a 1 point win.

Mystifying post/rant:confused:

I think there is a general feeling out there that Essendon supporters are terrible winners. They really are. Every team has them of course, it just seems that with the Essendon games I have been to (not all of them have been against the Bulldogs) there is never any grace in victory from a larger number of their supporters.

Oh right. It's just sour grapes:thumbsu:

Which fans show 'grace' after a victory? Being a nail-biting 1 point win only adds to the reasons of Bomber fans being more excited then a usual 5 goal win.

See, that's precisely the attitude I was talking about.

But, I remember your mob carried on like a fair bunch of knobs after you beat us by nine goals in last years NAB Cup, so if it was worse than that I feel sorry for anybody who was there to witness it.

No, go on and answer it. Which clubs fans show 'grace' after a win or in this case after a 1 point win? And just for the record to the fans that have had a crack at Bomber fans, exactly what did they do to annoy you so much?

Generally after we have lost a close game I don't notice the happiness of opposition fans and get out of the ground.

If we can't celebrate a 1 point win then what can we be happy about?

Personally I don't blame the Essendon supporters for getting atleast a little excited on the weekend. They won the match by a point, regardless of whether it's a scratch match or the granny, thats still somewhat exciting.

My problem with Essendon supporters is that they continue with that excitement, and seem to really enjoy trying to rub it in. Maybe it's just because I've grown up with many of my mates being Bombers, but I seem to notice them doing it more than other clubs. And typically they're bad losers, pointing out the reasons they lost, rather than admitting the reasons we won. After the 2000 defeat, someone tried to pass of that they lost because Fletcher wasn't playing.

Forget next year, if Grant keeps up this form he plays this year.

Grant has something which only few players have. Brad Johnson has it, Carey had it. They read the flight of the ball in the air better than most which allows positioning. His kicking was a worry, hopefully just nerves; yet kicking is also a lot of natural ability.

I really hate people saying next year, blah blah. If they can play, they play. Murphy still skinny does that mean we wait until he builds up like Hahn, oh course not. I’ll give you a hint, Grant will build up yet have will never be huge, not in his build.

Yep I've always thought the same thing myself. Remember McVeigh chucking a massive massive tantrum when we played them last year and stood there trying to manhandle Minno (minno just walked through him), and McPhee is always a dick. Got balls giving it to a bunch of kids....Terrible, our players have so much more style compared to those blokes in that area. Even Minno.

Not so much his size as his ability to run out a game coming off an OP year. Let him build up fitness slowly, rather than bust a gut/groin trying to play too early

All clubs have fans who show grace after wins, it's just that Essendon has less of them.

Soupaman summed it up quite well I think, it's just how it is.
