Just finished PixelJunk Shooter 2. Amazing game. Very hard, very fun, a whole bunch of new and cool stuff. The 3rd world is absolutely awesome too.

It's also a long game for a downloadable title too. The first PixelJunk Shooter took me around 4 hours to finish (give or take a few mins). This one took me 8 hours, with 4 levels taking me a whopping 50+ minutes, great amount of value for the price.

The soundtrack is also incredible and even better listening with the Astro A30's.:D

If PJS was a 9 for a PSN game, PSJ2 is a 9.5 easily. Improves the formula in every way while making it harder, longer and just overall more fun. Even if the game does lack any real story element.

Also seems there's an easter egg once you collect all the diamonds.

i'm actually dumbfounded at the lack of love for psn games by most of the ps3 users on here.

the value for money is almost impossible to beat in gaming.

for example i'm currently playing pixeljunk shooter 2 and not only is it amazing (so was the first for the record) but so far i'm probably 5 or so hours into it with another world to go and it cost me 12 dollars!
so possibly 7 hours of AWESOME gameplay for 12 dollars!

and that is simply one example of hundreds of gems on the store.

pretty sure i have in the vicinity of 60 psn games now.....pity almost all of them are on my dead blu-ray laser ps3 :eek:

Came across this recently.

BattleBlock Theatre. Seems to be in a similar nature to SSB and Castle Crashers (The devs; The Behemoth also made Castle Crashers). Looks pretty interesting. Currently only concretely slated for a LIVE release but it will most likely make its way to another platform.

I've recently started to get into the groove of PSN games thanks to PS+. The good thing is you get quirky games that devs aren't prepared to risk with a retails release such as Flower, Stacking and Limbo. Most of the time the concept behind the games don't warrant a full release anyway. A 9 hour campaign of Limbo would not really be conducive to a 'fun' experience in my eyes. WipEout is another awesome example of a kick ass PSN game (although that is closer to a retail release game).

But as always there's crap in between the gold. Astro Tripper and Lead and Gold are two thing's I've played recently that I didn't take a shine to. Astro Tripper is a pretty bland top down shooter and Lead and Gold while it has a good concept doesn't feel like it's been implemented properly. I hated the level design and the massive amounts of lag (not sure if it problem of netcode or of interweb connections, wouldn't be surprised if it was former). Aiming in it was also not quite accurate enough for my taste. It aims to be TF2 in the wild west and while the art of the game looks well done and represented it fails in areas too vital to be much good.

HBK is probably on this but remember if you only want PSN Plus for the minimum 3 months, and you don't want it to auto-renew you have to disable it in Account Management > Subscription Services.

That's if you've got money in your account or have linked your credit card to it of course. I buy PSN cards for two reasons. One is that I don't have a credit card and my parents won't let me use theirs (some crap about safety over the interwebs, of course they are more than willing to use it for themselves.... That's probably the main reason). The other is that they come in cases so they are good for replacements if one of your other ones breaks.

they do the same thing for dc universe online.

i was given a promo copy of that game which is the only reason i had it but i'm actually quite lucky that i had read about it being a naturally occurring direct debit after each cycle otherwise it would've taken money out of my account when i only wanted to try the free trial.

Finished PJS2 a few days back, just been collecting the crystals I missed. What a game! First was brilliant and this managed to improve and add so much. Loved all the level designs, music and bosses

I haven't mentioned that to anyone since I've not yet had to use it myself.

I assume you have though? I'm just wondering, since I'm going to most likely go for the year membership once my 3 month runs out, does it automatically choose 3 months or can you choose it to be 1 year without it running out (since I've noticed the option to buy on the PS Store is not there)?

i think it updates what you previously had....so if you wanted one year you'd have to change it to that i'm thinking.

Finished Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light the other night. Man what a ****ing awesome game that is! Definitely up there in my top 3 PSN games that I've played.

It's so well polished and just knows what a good game should be like, it's got great action, great puzzles and it's hard without being over the top.

The game also looks absolutely stunning, for an isometric title there's a lot of detail and a lot going on in the environments. Also the bosses tended to look awesome too. Overall there was an amazing epic scale to the entire game which is VERY tough to bring to again an isometric title.

On top of all of that there's even the option to go through the game completely in co-op, which actually changes how the story and puzzles play out!

WELL worth the buy for anyone on the edge about the game.

Also gives me great hope for the next Tomb Raider title - the big Tomb Raider 'reboot' - that is being handled by the same mob that made this so great. If they take much of the same mechanics, puzzles and action over to this open world reboot then it could truly be one of the best games of the year.

hbk i ****ing hate you

i told you how amazing this game was when it first came out and as soon as the co-op started to work i told you to get it so we could play it co-op but nooooOOoOooOoOOoo hbn00b has "too many games he wants to buy before it".....and it was only like 15 bucks!!!

btw to people reading this i'm pretty certain it's available on the xbox live market place as well.....insanely cool and fun title that's real cheap :thumbsu:

I didn't realise it had co-op. Does that include local co-op or is it only online?

i really couldn't tell you...it's on my other ps3 with the dead laser reader.

you'd have to assume that if it has online co-op that it would have local co-op though.

hbk would know more...he also loves finding out shit :p

You had finished the game by the time the online patch came out...n00b!

Gave a few demo's a go this week (YDYKJ and Ghostbusters downloaded from the US store).

You Don't You Know Jack was the first one. This is a fairly popular quiz series from a few years back that has the twist of being really irreverant and stupidly funny. The demo of it, provides EXACTLY that. For example, it has a bonus round called 'dis or dat' and for my run through it was you having to push a circle or square to whatever words came up that are based on juggling moves or diarrhea slang terms...

The host for the game is really good too, he jumps in with a ton of pop culture and such terms and quips, it's all really, really funny. The only problem with such pop culture terms is that it probably wouldn't hold up to re-playing it in 3 years since there's a lot of current terms and questions asked and used (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie question was in there as well as a joke made about Facebook). Also the fact that the game is American made and pretty much only American distributed means that occasionally you'll get very American questions (although a New Zealand question did pop up in there too).

There is also some absolutely hilarious 'ad' like stuff after you've given the demo a go, these are VERY similar to the brilliant ads that you've seen in games like GTA before. This stuff plays through the menu and credits and is very lolworthy.

I'm also under the belief that a playthrough of all of questions leaves little to replayability as the questions stay the same. There is a good amount of questions and stuff in the main game (3 levels ith 10 questions and bonus rounds in the demo), but it would hurt the replayability there for sure. That being said, the game is only $35 from Playasia and in the down months of gaming, this might be something to grab for some very good laughs and fun between friends (it has support for up to 4 players...don't think it goes online like that however).

The 2nd demo was Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. And let me just say, coming from an amazing isometric title like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light this REALLY didn't hold up to that. First off you get a bunch of cutscenes in a comic style with writing only - massive disappointment right there along with the fact that the writing is TINY! - there is zero voice work during the game too, all done again by written pop ups. The gunplay in this is really iffy too, you get the usual Proton Pack and for the demo you get this yellow beam shooting thing. Neither are overly nice to use, they both feel fairly weak.

I also felt that the game is just unnecessarily hard, there are points where enemies will fly at you without warning and you have just no way at all to dodge them it also only takes a few hits from an enemy to knock you down too. I get that it's perhaps done to scale to the number of potential players in this game (which can be 4 players in local or online co-op) but the bots that you get stuck with when not in co-op aren't particularly helpful and on top of that you're in such close quarters constantly that it makes it hard to get out of the way of your teammates let alone the enemies. Again something great about Lara Croft was the fact that it was hard without feeling like you were really up against it, if you died, it was generally because you weren't playing it right. Here it just feels like you'll die because you're not quick enough/don't have a shield or dodge button.

I dunno, overall this demo didn't have me caring for it at all, it felt extremely generic and I was really at the end just playing to finish it. It's all just a bunch of non-descript room to room combat with no real feel for atmosphere or anything close to a scare. Will not be picking this up.

The 3rd demo was WWE All Stars. Boy this thing has some AMAZING nostalgia potential. It started off with The Rock's old theme song, first feel of nostalgia right there! Getting into the game you have all the old wrestlers that you will be able to pick from (however in this game you've only got Ultimate Warrior and Rey to choose from...personally these are poor choices). They all have overblown body styles, with huge chests and massive arms. This is coupled with an over the top style of wrestling too where moves are embellished hugely where a regular throw becomes a 10 metres throw into the air. Although it's not really as smooth and fast as I would've hoped tbh. There's a real heavy style to the wrestling which I'm not really a huge fan of, it's not overly conducive of really combo-ing your moves together.

There's some great sounds going on in the game too. Jim Ross lends his voice to the commentary (and I think Jerry Lawler too). And if I'm not mistaken Howard Finkel does the entrance announcements.

Although overall there is so much nostalgia that you can re-live in this game with so many amazing former stars back and an over the top style that I don't really dislike the heavy wrestling sort of put me off a little bit.

Will have my impressions of the SOCOM 4 beta up on the PS3 news thread after I have downloaded and played it for a bit.

I used to love the you don't know jack demo I got with my old PC (I think a bunch of demos came with the installation of Direct X from the CD or something).

The only problem is the American pop culture questions that may arise, also I heard the question pool is quite limited compared the likes of BUzz games.

I believe there's 70 rounds of 10 questions each, not including the bonus rounds. So a good 700+ questions, however they stay the same for each round.

Have you had a crack at Socom yet HBK?

Not as of yet, will do so tonight though.

Best of luck.
After downloading the beta (750MB?)

lol yeah I know. I had that 1.5GB update running too, took about 5 minutes to get to 50MB. So I may have to wait a couple of days to get it going...hopefully Auto Downloads can do it (doubtful though) and when I turn my PS3 on tonight it will be there ready to play.
