He's not as bad as made out to be. Not for a long way.

The club has done bugger all in the past 20 years, I get that. Leaning in to the saga the club has been a mess since then. And if you look between 2000 and perhaps 2012 quite a number of shoddy coaches were in charge.

We also know that the conditioning of the players has been horrendous. So many skinny blokes and soft tissue injuries. When Dodo brings a kid through, there's an expectation they will grow and get some muscle. Command their space on the field and build strength and endurance. This is not his job.

All in all, he's been average at best.... but there are so many issues conspiring around him that it's absurd to just look at the statistics of the past 20 years and put it on the recruiter.

I don’t know your teams situation, but I’d imagine that Draper wouldn’t be thrilled with this. Surely he is under the impression that the no1 ruck spot is his for the taking?

I’m not sure Goldy would’ve signed without a guarantee from Brad that he’s their 1 ruck, but hey, could be wrong.

For Draper to have the no.1 ruck spot you'd want him to actually good. This is the flaw in the plan.

DYLAN Shiel has undergone foot surgery in a bid to overcome the problem that curtailed him through this year.

The 30-year-old played 12 games in 2023 but had recurring issues with his foot in the second half of the season.

After being a trade option for clubs before Wednesday night's deadline, the midfielder stayed at Essendon and underwent surgery on Thursday

(1) Heppell (likely draftee acquisition, possible new project from within),
(2) Dylan Shiel (potentially more minutes to Tsatas, Hobbs, Caldwell as inside mids),
(3) Stringer (possible for more responsibility to put on Perkins, a very difficult player to replace anyways)

The most difficult thing for us last few seasons has been the lack of AFL quality in depth. We just need our depth to stay fit because we have had a plethora of injuries to the kids who've been unable to stay on the park and develop. Zac Reid, Alwyn Davey Junior, Tex Wanganeen, Nik Cox etc. etc. etc.

Agree with that. All 3 should have been moved on. If we don't have people for those roles, make them. There is a problem, find a solution... don't keep a rag blocking it.

To be perfectly honest, yes. We are that bettered. 20 years is a lot time. I was at our last finals win against Melbourne, and I've been to many of the lost finals since.

So no, we're not ready to come out and say we're a chance. If you look at our last 10 years, we're literally a mid-latter yoyo team. Do we go up a little, or down a little? Who knows.

What we do know, is that we will come out firing in the first month, sit nicely in the 8 by the break and then watch at our house shakes in the second half of the year.
