That is one possible solution. The NEAFL/QAFL interchange agreement as it stands states that the first week after playing NEAFL they are to play 1sts. It is possible to select the NEAFL aligned player in 2s but there is an out for them to change QAFL clubs and to some degree makes a mockery of the competition (both QAFL & NEAFL) if NEAFL player plays 2s. That said it is certainly possible that the QAFL coach does not rate the NEAFL player in his best 22 for any given weekend.....and there are several examples at many clubs where this is the case.
I'm not disagreeing that the interchange needs adjustment I'm just saying the solutions are complex and before changes made consideration to the flow on effects are considered

Pretty sure you can play NEAFL players in the reserves 1st game back but the QAFL club gets fined $500

Yeah that's ridiculous - the QAFL isn't designed to underpin the NEAFL comp and there aren't plenty but enough blokes playing NEAFL who wouldn't necessarily roll back into one of the top QAFL sides.

Real Easy solution here No QAFL Side should have to play Any Player from the NEAFL If they don't want too....
The NEAFL Player should ONLY be selected ON his Merits and if that's Through the Twos and he is Good enough in the twos
then only will he win the right to Play in the Ones on His Merits...

How QAFL teams Run there clubs Not Knowing whos in and Who out From the NEAFL is Total Bullshit

I have watched a number of Games and some of these NEAFL players are clearly Not Good enough to play Ones
and are Flat out even knowing who there team mates are and cant cut the mustard...
It should be the QAFLs coach that makes the decision if he wants to play a certain player Or Not,,,,,

I don't think the issue is having to play them in the 1's. 'Most' of them are good enouh for the 1's, but it can break a teams continuity getting a guy in for 1 week, especially a key position player and then they're gone the next.

I imagine the complaints are more that in some weeks one club can have 7 or 8 NEAFL players, so more than 1/3rd of their side nominally playing down - while their opponent may only have 1 or 2 (or 0) and it hugely impacts the result.

Then as Tommo points out above, it can get even more complicated when the NEAFL starts raiding the academy kids who aren't even on their lists, weakening a clubs primary list even more. (though I don't reckon that really happens.)

I guess our understanding has always been that the QAFL to an extent does underpin the NEAFL and academy system. Its not a great system but we experience as much disruption as anyone in the QAFL and we embrace it and welcome the players and back them in. I think you are clutching at straws if your teams success is based on the effects of this policy.
The overwhelming majority of NEAFL rookies are more than up to senior QAFL level and if supported well, develop nicely.
This is probably the first year where we have not needed NEAFL top ups to make us a better team.

On a separate note - you can see why many people were annoyed at Southport's salary cap breaching having an effect on the transfer of academy/rookie players in and out of the QAFL. That was unnecessary and compromised several teams integrity of selection.
I agree with many on here that the constant changing of teams and coaches for "Academy" players is a concern.

Interesting fact is that the last 3 premiers (in Palmy twice and Labrador) have used less than 1 NEAFL per game on average

Appreciate everyone has a role to play to ensure we maximise qld kids getting drafted, incl QAFL teams. But tbh surfers you feed from a pretty strong club in Southport. Thee are guys at Redlands that would not stroll into morningsides group this year. Just think it’s incredibly unfair to hold a coaching group and in turn the playing group to ransom around where a bloke HAS TO play. Could create a real bad environment and that stat around stability makes a lot of sense.
Maybe I will see it differently when maroochydore are in next year but I know for a fact that there were kids playing lions NEAFL in years gone by who were not good enough to play in the Roos senior team. If the coaching group had been forced to play them when they came back I think it might have been bloody average.

Morningside have done pretty well out of Redland this year - their inclusions of Howard, Rogerson etc has been pivotal to their improvement. Developing talent requires a little patience sometimes and these rules are in place to prevent narrowed focus of some clubs or coaches.
Its the kids coming out of Lions or Suns reserves that is the main issue - they are not always selected based on deserving talent but rather the numbers need of the AFL reserves club. They should and believe they can? be dropped to reserves immediately particuarly if they were picked out of reserves.

Wait. Is the rule seriously that if a player from, say, Magpies reserves, who is in the Lions academy, gets picked for the Lions NEAFL side, they have to come back to QAFL via the seniors or the Magpies get fined?

Agreed. The strategy worked
The strategy of not taking rookie NEAFL players had no bearing on their results end of season.
Broady selected a fringe NEAFL player in Erickson a few years ago and he attached to their club and stayed on playing great footy and is a ripping bloke from all reports. Good longer term thinking.

Think Super said that it doesn't apply to kids coming out of academy. Which you would hope is the case.

No, but if a primary listed NEAFL guy is playing Reserves in the QAFL and then gets picked for their NEAFL side, the QAFL side must then pick them the following week in the seniors if available, or its a $500 fine.

Ironically, even if the player in question was playing Reserves in a specialist position behind a young club kid who is in the Allies or QLD 18's and is then ironically picked by the same NEAFL side ahead of the player in question! (even if that kid is not even rookie listed or NEAFL listed, the NEAFL club can just take them from you whenever it pleases them no matter what point of the season it is)

Super. It works most of the time. Most the NEAFL guys are wonderful, respectful guys trying to fit in, contribute and gain form so they can return to NEAFL. That I completely agree. However there are a few examples, such as those Thommo points out, where it doesn't work. The Vultures will attest to the fact that with 5 games decided by 6 points or less (2-3 for and against respectively) the small things make a difference. They have set record after record all year of the number of fringe NEAFL guys playing on any given weekend. So if they're not on top of the ladder then the facts have to state that those other clubs mentioned before recruit players better than fringe NEAFL. I'm not completely anti the system. Just saying it has a workload which comes with it and sometimes its cumbersome. However as you rightly point out Erickson is one great example of how it does work well.

Lots of great talk about the Neafl
But if your not got enough you dont
Get a game
It’s just not right pushing some kid
Into a side of older males
Thinking it’s going to work
Yes I agree some are good but some
Are just not up to it
And in my opinion and that’s what it is
An opinion
If they don’t get picked in QAFL Sen
Selection on your merit
They should play QFA 1
Much better standard that QAFL res ?

Gee Morningside were ordinary today. They would want a response next week or season over.

Looking forward to both seniors and reserves games at palm beach next weekend. Both will be PBC v Demons
