Morningside got a stack of injuries. Think Broadbeach will win easily. Think if Surfers don't get Palmy this week, they will get them on bigger ground in GF.
Morningside always tough at home - and got the job done today. For me the home ground in QAFL for Bris v Gold coast is about 4 goals (and vice versa) before you even look at form

Cats very disappointing today 3 losses. In the seniors the siders just wanted it more and forced errors.

But if I’m honest I think I watched the grand finalists yesterday, I expect surfers to get it done well next week and progress.

Should be a chance. But tommy Thynne to win the medal followed by daylight. The kid could be about to play in his 4th flag at palmy plus 2 best and fairests and a grogan at 22 years old!
Both excellent candidates. Throw in B.Haberfield & M.Green (Surfers), McKay (Labrador), Smith (Mt Gravatt), Searl (Broady) to poll well. Mollison and Joyce will take some votes off Howard at Morningside and Jesse Derrick always polls well. Young Lumber at Magpies the talk of the town also. Hes the Rising star candidate to battle with Colenso for mine.

Lumber is 30 🤣

Not sure he'll win rising star!

Agree, Joyce will get plenty of votes. May well win it .
Also Yelland from Surfers should poll well.

Ok then Thommo his progress has been stunted then!😁 - my bad! There are plenty of good young guys at Magpies you can swap in

ha, he's a gun player. He's a 'walk in' recruit from Deniliquin. If he was 19, he may well win it - but at 30 I'm sure he's chuffed that hes mistaken for a 19 year old, must be moving well!

Riley Greene as a 17 year old defender in a side that was on the wrong end of i50 counts most of the year didn't have his colours lowered once this season, despite getting some huge jobs. Defenders don't get the kudos, but his year was huge. We had another 19 year old defender in Ethan Sivjis that had a similar year and didn't even get nominated, opposition coaches must only look at mids and forwards.

Jason Burge got 3 weeks I hear and appealing it, repeat of the last year when Palmy threatened to take league to High court to get their Captain off, which they did, and available for the Granny after he nearly killed a Broady player from a sling tackle.
The video evidence of the bump doesn’t look good for Burge so I don’t know what Palm Beach are basing their appeal on.

Is that the only suspension to come from the weekend's games?

Ablett what looks so bad about the vision? The Ruck is running straight at him. Is he not allowed to stay in that area?

I'm curious as to how the set penalty system applies. My very basic understanding is that the action has to be intentional or careless. Fair to say this is not in the intentional category. To be careless there must be a breach of duty of care. To breach duty of care, a reasonable player would not regard the action as prudent in the circumstances. Burge is going into a contest. A reasonable player would brace for the contact. Surely it can't be reasonable for a player to avoid the contact?

If it's rough conduct charge (reportable offence?), then bumping of opponent (reasonable or unreasonable) that causes contact to head seems to be caught. There seems to be a deeming of this being careless unless the player was contesting the ball and didn't have a realistic alternative way to contest the ball. I think the guidelines suggest that if a head clash happens when a player elects to bump, then this is a circumstance that can reasonably be foreseen - so in trouble if elect to bump rather than contest the ball. I don't think Burge was reported though? Don't think it would be an issue if not reported by the umpire on the day, but again, unsure how that works.

It feels like there are grounds for appeal on the basis of what a reasonable player would do in the circumstances; or an argument that there was no realistic alternative way to go to the contest.

It would be worth getting high paid defence for the appeal.

He chose to bump instead of tackle, I’m not suggesting his intent was malice, careless with being on the verge of reckless maybe but when you contact the head your open for scrutiny and often penalties.

Missing the Granny is the ultimate penalty and no one could begrudge Palmy doing everything they can to get one of their better players off and available for the Granny........but there seems to be different rules for different clubs in the QAFL.

Different rules how? Any club can appeal can't they?

when a club has more spending money than the body they are appealing to, the appeals end up successful because its a financial competition and AFLQ can't be seen to blowing money fighting PBC when that money comes from 100 other clubs as well.

PBC know this, so make it a costly exercise and then get what they want. Like Jesse Derrick last year.

shithouse behaviour really.
