A few important questions about the match on Saturday:

What's the highest number of posts in a match preview thread?
What's the highest number of posts in a match preview thread before the team is announced?
Can this match preview thread reach 1000 posts before Saturday? (most likely answer = yes)

The winner of Melbourne v Sydney will be playing the winner of the saturday Semi Final, so the AFL might want to avoid a 6 day break. We'll know pretty quickly on Saturday night (after our game) what the fixture for weeks 2+3 will look like.

I thought the loser of the first qualifying final gets the Friday night slot, so they get the longer break for the prelim..

My Team Selection

B: Bews : De Koning : Kolo
HB: Henry : Stewart : Tuohy
C: Smith : Guthrie : Duncan
HF: Close : Cameron : Miers
F: Stengle : Hawkins : Rohan
Foll: Stanley : Dangerfield : Selwood
Int: Blicavs : Atkins : Holmes : Zuthrie

Med Sub: Parfitt
Emg: Menegola : Ceglar : O'Connor : Esava

9 Mids incl sub : 7 Backs : 6 Forwards.
Team keeps Specialist Forwards Backs and Mids in place
Important to maintain team synergy of player groups that work together
Zuthrie allows for defensive bench rotations and Henry to go Forward
We are not forced to call an early sub if a minor knock strikes

Parfitt named sub as there is 8 mids in the 22
Parfitt can come on fresh if required.
Menegola and MOC very unlucky
Very tempted to name Ceglar as Sub:
Team needs extra tall Forward to stop double teaming Hawkins.

Interesting to compare our 2011 GF team with the current team. The 2011 team had more proven stars and A-graders - Bartel, Stevie, Scarlo, Chappy and many more - but then the Pies team we'll be playing on Saturday is inferior to the 2011 version.

All quite irrelevant, I know, to the actual result.

The current team does have 3AA players in the forward half: surely on this occasion we'll kick a decent score.
What if you compared this side to the 2019 side?

Parfitt has been arguably our best midfielder since his return. He's also never been dropped (sub, or otherwise) in his career and is in his prime. Has had a good crack in finals when he hasn't had an injury like that hand (2020?). You seriously think he's getting a demotion?

Yes this is better than than the 2019 team by a margin. Some of the 2019 version were very near the end - Taylor, kendo, Gazza.

As for Saturday, i think Heckler's lineup goes very close to what we'll see, except for Parfitt, who all of a sudden is getting 20 + possies a game..

s**t, you could've convinced me he was passing something to him after dropping Stanley in 2019. Here's hoping he's gone to rehab and is now sober.
Let's hope Sav Ratagolea won't be that R Stanley moment as one of the ins. We all know CS's man love for the big tongan....
