rewatching that 3aw footage. so many unforgivables from melbourne. how does bruce basically sprint from the tap out deep into the fwd 50 unopposed by gawn

then viney on steven, just gave up the chase and let him impact a 2nd time

watch montagna in the background. how is he free to run on into the square unopposed?

dare i say it, they thought they had the game done and just thought that was it

I've got to say Hogan was impressive, he kept the Dees in it with his 5 goals, hoping McCartin can develop into a similar sort of player in a couple of years.

I was also impressed by Richo fist pumping and showing some emotion with that win, just shows he's now a true Saints man and really cares about winning.

I was also glad it was Montagna running into that open goal at the end and not Schneider who probably would have found some way to miss it, it would have been devastating to blow another close game like we did against Essendon.

People were blaming Roos for not telling his players to get numbers back but surely their players should do that themselves, doesn't say much for their on field leadership.

I'd be ropeable if our players made the same mistake.

You would think that who ever gets the rookie upgrade position will play against the Bulldogs!

For me Delaney looks like he has lost his confidence and is second guessing his movements. He is not being phsyical when matched up and allows his opponents to get off him far too easily. That being said it may be time to give him a rest and let Goddard come in and match up on Boyd when we play the Bulldogs.

Saints v Bulldogs changes...

Goddard for Delaney
Roberton for Membrey
Sinclair for Acres
Fisher for Shenton

Both Membrey & Acres are unlucky. Acres needs some full game time and I think Roberton or even Gilbert could play the third tall role as well as Membrey has and give us more flexibility.

I think Delaney has been fine. He wasn't on Hogan, I was there and Gilbert and Dempster seemed to be his direct opponent at different times.

Even teams at local level push back in a situation like that.

Like Defacto said, I think they thought they had it won.

couldnt agree more mate

without jack steven and josh bruce absolutely smashing that clearance we dont win. you can tell both just wanted it bad, everyone else had their heads down

look at bruce sprint off in the background of the clearance whilst steven is running. rest of the pack in the square just jogging

they seriously lack leadership and professionalism. viney and gawn and montys man will get a massive spray. viney and gawn just gave up. both players had 2nd 50m efforts

the great thing for us is our younger players led the way on that last clearance

The Dees didn't think they had won it. They just didn't work out that it would be a short quarter because there had only been 2 goals scored. The whole team is responsible for that loss loss imo. Their entire bench should have been screaming at them to flood back. They dropped the ball massively and it cost them the game.

You can see Roos screaming "Get ****ing back" and then rolling his eyes and leaning his head back as if the bench told him the runner was gone so the message wouldnt get out.

No way is that on Roos imo. That is 100% on guys like Vince, Cross and Lumumba who were brought into the club to provide these moments of leadership.

I wpuld be gutted if I was a Dees fan. They saw plenty from their younger brigade but the leaders just didnt cope when the heat went on.

I was there too, plus have watched the replay.
Delaney was Hogan's opponent.

Hogan at times got away from him, and one mark and goal came from when Delaney chose to play in front and went straight up at the ball to be blocked but another player while Hogan run around the back to mark. Hogan is a thinking amongst other things, and is not just simply a "see ball, get ball" player.

Looking at Stats.. Dunstan was the only player not to lay a tackle and had the least amount of pressure acts from the midfield group. Is he injured? If not, not great numbers considering his a inside midfielder. Lonie was immense. We are probably a two goal better side with him applying all that pressure. The amounts of 2nd efforts he brings to the table is remarkable. Thought Webster played extremely well.

Watch the replay Delaney was on him for the first 4 and got subbed shortly after...

I was a bit disappointed in his game he seemed a bit second to the ball. Seb took his coal face spot so he was forced to search around the ground for kicks.

I read an article today where Bernie Vince said they thought there was about 4 minutes to go as the other quarters had gone for about 30 minutes, obviously the lack of goals made the last quarter shorter. As a result they thought it was too early to flood back and try and defend the lead.

Seems odd that someone wouldn't have told the players how long there was left to go, I think the Melbourne runner was already on the ground when Roos tried to order more players back into defence. Not that any of us are complaining about their stuff up.

Anyway just looking at the last minute of that game again I knew Steven was fantastic but so was Bruce competing in the ruck, not only in the centre bounce where Steven won the clearance but also at the last centre bounce where he laid a tackle to prevent a quick Melbourne clearance, he's certainly a competitive beast.

Gee whiz some supporters swing with a gentle breeze... last week Keys was being lauded for a great job on Roughhead & now he's no good (after Hogan got 2 goals that no full back in the league would have stopped & one lucky pill in the goal square).

After the grand total of 2 full games, Blacres goes back to the sub vest & struggles to get into the game & now he's under pressure to hold his spot (after being nominated the best of his Draft year 2 weeks back).

Some consistency of opinion would be nice!

- one weird stat we had 99 tackles but dunstan had none only saints player who didn't register a tackle (no surprise for the dees watts also went tackless in a contested game)

- says shenton only had 1 clanger.. shows that stat is pointless

- last weird stat was we own with only having 3 players have over 20 touches were 2 of those 3 got to 20 because of the last minute (tags 29, steven 21, armo 20 compared to the dees who had 11 over 20)

Just watching the first quarter and almost had movement. Savage kickout to Webster, unbelievable kick to Minchington who delivered another bullet to Gilbert. Orgasmic.
