I'd like to say I can't wait til Nicks is gone but it'll be the same shit served up by someone different. When will this club realise Neil Craig wasn't that good a coach, he inherited the guts of a premiership team that was still in a spot to win a flag or two and he underdelivered? The only hope this club has is to stop using him as our template, his ghost haunts the club every day.

I know that’s a lot of tags, but I’m just bringing the old band back together.

I'm okay with Milera staying in - needs to play at AFL level to get back up to speed. He has the skills, we shouldn't be fielding a side with the sole goal of winning matches.

But it is unbelievable that Crouch stays. Perfect game to get Schoey back in to build confidence, and someone should make way for Jones. He showed a lot even in the short time on field last week, and shouldn't have been dropped anyway.

On another note, who's taking bets on Parnell coming straight out next week for Brown after protocols?
For that very reason I want him to blitz his debut game.

The love for Craig to this day is absolutely insane given we actually won flags under Blight and not under Craig

Why couldn't we instill Blight philosophies?
Without bagging Nicks as I like him, a new coach should have the street cred to TELL the club what he's going to do. I get the feeling Nicks and co are under some level of "instruction" from above. Our team selection feels like a committee decision which by it's very nature, finds a way to satisfy the lowest common denominator. There's no aggressive plan for success and repeatedly seems timid.

No proof. Just my impression.

Height wise I think the Eagles are a bit overstated with their main guys.

We'll go

Kennedy 196cm - Murray 193cm
Darling 191cm - Doedee 187cm
Waterman 191cm - Hinge 190cm

The ruler doesn't tell the whole story. Kennedy and Darling will ragdoll us, they're so much stronger.

And we don't really have a counter for that no matter who we pick. Worrell doesn't have the strength yet and Frampton's positioning is pretty bad for a key defender.

I don't see how anyone could get upset about Milera staying in. There's usually melts galore when we drop a young player after one game so I don't see why we should do it with Milera after so long off.

As for Crouch, no idea how he survives yet again. It's run its course, time to let go.

100%. Milera had two years without playing football. This year is 100% about him getting through the season healthy, so he can have another preseason and attack 2023 with confidence. Playing him round 1 as a reward and then dropping him round 2 was just stupid. I was all for him to be in the team rd 1, but he needs a block of games. I want to give him a minimum 6 games regardless of form.

With Crouch, whilst I don't necessarily agree, I do understand why the club persists with him. Once again all of last year was destroyed with injury and he is obviously a proven commodity at AFL level. At 27 age shouldn't be a factor, but have injuries destroyed him?

Surely the only reason Crouch remains in is purely to ensure his trade value doesn’t decrease any further. We’re hoping another club is seduced by the 30 disposal average on paper and the former club champion title, without taking the time to realise he’s become an accumulator with zero hurt factor.

What part of crouch's game is strong?. Getting the ball and farming it out. If its wet there are going to be a lot of stoppages and it should suit his game.

Having said that, i'll bet the weather played no part in the clubs thinking this weekend and he was never getting dropped anyway

Ive forgotten what Craigy sounded like. He is so much clearer and precise than Nicks. He was a very good coach. We just needed to put better people around him as he didnt have the Blighty game day genius. To be fair not many coaches do these days. Everything is done through the week and Craighy was a very good Monday-Friday coach. You put Bailey or Walsh alongside Craigy and things may have been different.

Craig wasn't just bad at in game moves, he was philosophically opposed to them. Find and settle on a best 22, pick your game plan, and all success comes from just doing it better.

It's no suprise that he's not been successful anywhere he went after declaring that he was so loyal hed be a one club person to try to keep our job.

It has been positive to see Will Hamill seamlessly come back into the team.

Did you get flashbacks from that video?

The part where he said “Are you allowed to stand up for yourself? Sure, but not outside the rules…” might seem like a reasonable statement but it really does provide a deep insight into his overarching philosophy.

He was not capable of using any enterprise whatsoever to win a game of football.

He did not have the “capacity” (thanks Craigy) to deal with the spectrum of different personalities that come through a football club.

He wanted to build his little team of Crowbots following his marching orders, and if you didn’t stack up to that, you were dead to him.

IF ...

this club had the pride which was once the envy of the competition ...

THEN ...

there would be no reason it couldn’t beat the Crows at Adelaide Oval on Saturday. But even that’s gone missing in this most embarrassing of seasons.

Don't often agree with Damien Barrett, but he nailed this one.
Ive got money on Wet Toast.

We haven’t employed anything other than a rookie coach since blight. Same with chief of footy roles. We employ people that align with existing philosophies, not people with the street cred to challenge them. It’s why we continually change coaches without experiencing any actual change to how we go about it.

No wonder players left. Such an uninspiring boring coach.

I agree.
True leadership is exhibited through trust via delegation. Insecure leaders need control and therefore never allow their subordinates to flourish and therefore provide maximum value.

To me, there appears one of three options that we're experiencing as a club in this respect.

Firstly, there is enough questions marks of Nicks by his superiors behind the scenes and therefore are directly influencing his decisions and department. In this scenario, Nicks is actually better than he's being allowed to be.
Or ...
Secondly, Nicks has enough insecurity to feel his superiors need close involvement in his decisions. Once again, behind the scenes. In this scenario, Nicks is somewhat "in over his head" and he knows it.
Or...
Lastly, it might be that both parties are incapable of taking or allowing the other to have clear control. And both parties like the status quo. It's safer and sometimes referred to as CMOA (cover my own arse)

I'm not involved within the club at all and I'm just an external observer like many of us are. There is however one major assumption I make which I think is pretty obvious.
...The buck doesn't stop at Nicks. It's further up somewhere...
