I know - it’s actually unbelievable how poorly we manage some and others we treat with the lucrative “golden pass”.

I would love to know (clearly I have never been part of a team at this level) who is on the selection panel, what the criteria is - and why some players are picked relentlessly- and why others never get another go.

Hoping some of the brains trust on this board could throw some light?

It was a very melbourne thing to do back in the day when they burnt early draftees careers

Also shows you can’t just pick young blokes because they are young or early picks

Would be so Adelaide if we dropped Milera.

Didn't do much, questioned why he got recalled when he had just 50% TOG in the first half but if you're going to bring him in, give him a string of games. Well unless he won the coaches award for the month which entitles you to one free AFL game like he got in round one...

exactly what I was about to say..

and I’m not sure where the 3 “joe the goose” goals claim came from anyway.. I clearly remember one of them being from a mark he took about 20m out.. which he then walked back from, played on and snapped a goal.

the other thing I find hilarious is how people use “joe the goose” goals as some sort of insult against a player..

players that get goals via “joe the goose” plays generally do so because they are quicker and run harder than anyone else, including their direct opponent, to get themselves into a position to take advantage of the play..

it was one of the only redeeming qualities of Josh Jenkins. he had a massive tank and he worked his opponents into the ground running them up and down the ground till they were stuffed and often found himself in the position to get free for the over the back “joe the goose” because of it.

not exactly sure why this deserves derision.. its a pathetic insult really…Its pretty much like saying “oh you useless bastard, how dare you run back harder than anyone else, thus getting space on your opponent, then grab the ball and kick easy goals for us… you idiot!”..

Newchurch has oodles of speed, shitloads of talent, good skills, finds the goals and has decent x-factor.… not sure if many around here have noticed.. but these are player traits we have Faaaark all of at our club!.. His one knock from last year was his defensive game, tackling and failure to apply pressure to opponents.. plus his lack of involvement (although I think this may have been a coaching directive where he was told to sit just off the contest and be a receiver type where he could then use his blistering pace)..

he has improved that 10 fold this year if we are being honest. he still misses a tackle here and there but so do most players..

get the lad in and lets see what he can bring.

Melbourne just threw kids out there, without senior players or system, and they we terrible for 20 years.

Who knows, maybe we'll be as bad for as long. But if we are, we can at least avoid doing it the same way as Melbourne.

Fine to give him a shot, but it would be nothing to do with his SANFL form.

Watching the game, Himmelburg was much better, but no one would argue for his return.

I’d pick him for a few reasons

One is to give him an experience to give him feedback where he’s at … we’ve given Milera a game for no better reasons

Also because he’s got traits that we lack

Tex still capable of high level footy, but he needs regular rests to maintain it and is clearly not the future. I’d continue with the TT Fog combo as key targets. The forward mix was good yesterday. Not their fault our mids love hacking to oppo loose men.

Every one of your ins have played this year, so it's not a ridiculous suggestion.

I think the disagreement would be that they want players who are defensively accountable and run both ways, and they want more mature bodies out there - you've cut some of the more pressure focused players.

I think your team is more likely to all come together next year.

I'm hoping McHenry and Milera are still a part of it, as I think they can offer a lot at their best. Milera especially would be a shame.

I can see them leaving both the crab crouch and the past it Junior in the side in the desperate hope that next week against WC the team has a big win, which carries milera and crouch along with it and they can all strut around like prize ***** saying “see, we knew we were justified in bringing them back in”..

And that will give them the excuse they need to stamp their papers for a good solid run of games..

Its the Adelaide way.

Crouch should never play AFL level football again. He is a lazy, stat padder that is a complete liability.

I know they're unpopular things to say - but Crouch lowered his eyes today and tried to do a lot of what he was asked to improve on.

I wouldn't have brought him in, but I think he was far from our worst today.

He was pretty comfortably our worst, outside of Milera. Finished as a player. We need to cut our losses and move on. Bringing him back only delays any development that's occuring and will lengthen our period in the doldrums. Club needs to be prepared to make a tough call. Well... an easy, no-brainer call anyway.

It's time to give McHenry a run on the ball. Is he in Year 4? He can't be putting in any more effort than he does. Trying to impact the game from a permanent small forward's role is difficult as we've seen with multiple midfielders previously. Similarly Murphy is a stoppage midfielder or nothing. Complete waste playing him up forward. Those guys need centre square time. If there's not room for Murphy in the centre square rotations then he doesn't play.

Keays and Hately have shown some versatility in that they can still find the footy when they start on the wing or at half forward. This is good and means we should be able to expand our midfield rotation. The rigid structure we seem welded to needs to go.

I don't yet agree he's what you say about Crouch, fair chance he's still gaining confidence in his lower body. But it's certainly what he looks like out there and you'd think even an average coaching group would protect him and the other 21 from that.

What I'm really looking forward to is the brain dead coming out with the, "you don't change a winning team" rubbish after those 2 are carried in a resounding win.

the mids are coached to kick to contests rather than hit up leading targets. It's easier to defend deeper where there's a contested marking situation rather than torching a kick to a 1 on 1 at the 50 and turning it over there.

He’s completely broken. Wouldn’t be surprised if he retired before next season tbh.

Not everyone rehabs the same way. Some take it super seriously do everything asked of them and more; and others… don’t

This is a common theme in American football when trying to project how someone might recover from serious injury: there’s more than just time involved

I don’t know anything about Milera’s rehabbing, or his attitude and approach to it, but I can see he’s come back looking a lot ‘heavier’ and slower.

I wouldn’t expect someone who had gone all out to look like he does. And then there is the inexplicably off the pace form issue

Maybe it’s just a confidence thing, but there are a few worrying markers surrounding his drop off

The point is we can only work with what we have this year before we go to the draft and or trade table. So not trying guys we drafted as midfielders is dumb, give them a try, if they are worse than the crap we’ve already got in there, who cares, our midfield is still shit.
