Here is the votes from the 2 coaches for the Coaches Award. Do you reckon one of the coaches - mostly like Clarkson gave Wingard 5 because of his first quarter setting up the game? Yeah I know he could have got 3 and 2 but it wouldnt surprise me if it was 5+0 as Carlile got 3+0 and I cant see Smith getting 5+0

Round 4 v Hawthorn
8 Jay Schulz (PA)
7 Travis Boak (PA)
5 Isaac Smith (Haw)
5 Chad Wingard (PA)
3 Alipate Carlile (PA)
1 Taylor Duryea (Haw)
1 Josh Gibson (Haw)

Has to be

Schulz 4-4
Boak 5-2
Smith and Wingard 3-2 and 5-0
Carlile 3-0
Duryea 1-0
Gibson 1-0

Interesting.

The Carlile one is more interesting. Ken loves defenders and that was the perfect defenders game. Clarkson on the other hand can usually rely on Roughead for a few goals, so having him completely shut out should have gotten him praise.

Wingard deserved the 5, especially as the coaches should know that he copped a knock that dramatically reduced his impact on the game near half time. And that was one of the key turning points from us on top (people forgetting we did win the second quarter) to conceding more than we kicked.

This is something I tend to agree with. We don't play it consistently yet, but we've definitely got a higher gear than any other side in this competition. We slip into god mode and we're untouchable for a little while.

Richmond tasted it, Freo tasted it after half time in the final, and now Hawthorn have. It's absolutely irresistible footy.

The more experienced we get, the better we'll get a flicking the switch, just like the great Geelong sides were.

I'd say Hawthorn have been the recipient of a few of our runs of God Mode.

We came out on fire in last year's prelim, but couldn't kick a goal to save our lives. Then the final quarter with the Wingard and Monfries show.

A photo of Chad Wingard in that first quarter:

Kicked 3.9 in the first quarter of the Preliminary Final :( but this year on ANZAC Day, we came out in that 'God Mode' and kicked 8.2, which went a long way in helping us win the game in the end.

Hopefully that inaccurate kicking in that PF first quarter last year has taught us a very good lesson.

My guess:

Clarkson:
5. Smith
4. Schulz
3. Wingard
2. Boak
1. Gibson

Hinkley
5. Boak
4. Schulz
3. Carlile
2. Wingard
1. Duryea

As soon as Polec grabbed the ball - before the ball is anywhere near his boot - I started shouting, goal, goal, goal, and as the ball was half way home I did my best south american soccer commentator

Meanwhile in the Sydney game...."Trengove chips it sideways to Jonas....who chips it back to Broadbent...who holds it.......holds it....holds it."

I forgot to mention but watching the Hawks-Roos game and I was reminded that the Hawks use their interchange timing really well and always to their advantage. I believe they interchange well to link a rebounding attack from defence. If other teams are doing so as well, they are probably not doing it as well or often. The other thing is the Hawks tread a fine line when they set up a shepherd on the man standing the mark. Something I think the umpires don't mange very well.

Don't worry, I'm sure it'll get highlighted by Dunstall on On The Couch or Dermie next week so all the umpires and opposition coaches will be onto it..........(or not).

That's shits me so much.
They are always highlighting tricks opposition teams use but never their own team.
