6 of these are future players. I wouldn't classify any of them as poor kicks. Go through the carlton side and you'll find just as many players who have similar kicking skills

This thread wasn't created to bag Rance. It was to beg the question why we drafted him when we have Thursfield, McGuane and Moore on the list who all look to be holding down our key defensive posts.

The RFC doesn't need Rance.

sante, what would you think of a trade/deal for Quinten Lynch? It appears he may be looked at if rumors are correct. He could be perfect for our young developing forward line and have an ex team mate for company.

Mcguane isn't a bad kick. White is ok. St Kilda have some not so great kicks in their team. How many many elite kicks do they have. The cats have 3 or 4 not so great kicks. How often do you go to games?

James Kelly isn't a great kick. Sometimes stuffs up under a bit of pressure with a bad kick or decision. The Cats are flag favorites and they have Hawkins and Mooney in front of goals. Mcguane's kicking doesn't bother me. It's not like he does a shocking turnover every week after spraying a kick off the side of his boot. He actually has a fairly confident 40m stab pass on him. Alot of his kicks are long kicks out of defence, but the options aren't very good because some of our players are either not experienced enough or too lazy to sprint to an open space. Alot of our kicks out of defence are to contests. He is not a bad kick. He was drafted about 4 years ago and has come along way in all areas. As for our team being half full of bad kicks, I wouldn't even have King, Mcmahon, Hislop or Silvester in the side and I also mentioned that Tuck should be a depth player at Coburg in case of injury. Coughlan looks to be on the way out too. I even mentioned the slight possiblity of offering Foley as a trade due to having 1 too many midfielders who weren't deadly by foot. Jackson is capable of great things by foot, but can let himself down too. But he has time on his side to become a consistent kick

Ordinary footballer. a side. He will never have it. Also goes to ground everytime he is chased. Trade for a 10-20 pick. Either trade McGuane or Rance. Moore and Thursfield are the only reliable defenders we have and they are not key backs. Silvester does'nt count. He's 24 and a spud. I'm hoping theres a FB in this years draft. Would've loved Hurley down back but this club's too stupid to get its priorities right (pardon the pun).

McGuane is a much better player then Moore who at this stage looks like a one year wonder

Yep, but the ferals on here see a kid who is not Judd or Ablet and they think he's a spud. Never mind that he's a kid who has played a handful of games and shows some of the signs we have been missing as a club for decades (toughness and mongrel). But because he shanks a couple of kicks, they think he can't kick full stop.

I like BigFooty. I really do. But sometimes (actually lots oftimes) posters' egos get in the way of rational thought and discussion. I'm guilty of it myself.
I'm happy with Rance. I like to look at what he has done right. Yes he got dropped this week, but he will be a player for us.

Good stuff Tugga and I agree 100%. Rance will be a very good player, is still young and got plenty of development left in him. My mates have a go at me when I say he'll be a good player because he "can't kick" or he "fumbles" too much. FFS hes only played a few games, give him a chance.

He penchant( look it up!) for handballing is now getting the side into trouble.

You mean his penchant for handballing? Most players have more kicks than handballs nowadays.
His kicking is not that bad. Most players have some weaknesses.
Go ahead and judge a kid on a dozen games. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. But I'll choose to assess where he's at after 50 or 60 games. From what I've seen so far, it's not all that bad.

We need to give Rance another year at the very very least, and he needs to play KPD. So you are wrong there Phil. But you are wrong also Tugga, his kicking is poor, he has a shocking ball drop and as Phil said poor kicks are almost impossible to overcome. You can only really improve decision making to a degree. That's where I hope we change his mindset to look to dish off to outside runners because his ball winning ability is impressive for a big bloke. I think he could improve his handballing a lot.

If you are correct and those astute judges don't rate him for his kicking then what possible trade value is he?

Too many people like you mate expect miracles from players in their first couple of seasons, it rarely occurs.

actually kicking can easily be improved by a better technique.
