I’ll do that.I remember someone saying they had to understand Sun Ra before they could figure out Coltrane. Their reasoning was they wanted to know where they went before they could see how they got there. It made a lot of sense to me. I also started out with the far out jazz stuff before something like A Love Supreme made any sense. I'm the same with Classical music I think, modern, contemporary stuff whether it's really minimal or mixes electronic elements is just so much easier to digest than traditional stuff.
Anyway, this Shosta guy sounds awesome. Can you recommend something from him? The more dissonance, and the more dangerous the better
I also agree with the someone you refer to about Robbie Coltrane. When I first heard Coltrane I didn’t get it at all. I stuck at it because he is famous and I figured all of the people who love him can’t all be wrong. Was worth going back in time to understand the influences.
This technique doesn’t always work. Maybe I had more time to make the effort back then.
