If Israel take control of Syria through this rebranded ISIS, which looks like what’s happened, it’s a massive game changer for the region. Hezbollah can no longer defend Lebanon because the supply is cut off.

No, they don't.

You can criticise Israel plenty, for legitimate things, without falling prey to the nonsense/exaggerated stories about them.

Syria and Israel have had a UN-patrolled DMZ along the Golan Heights for literal decades. Reports are that Israel has assisted the UN in repelling an "Islamist/Syrian Rebel" attack in the area. We'll see how accurate those reports end up being, as it's all fresh and the fog of war makes things a little blurry.

What is certain though is that Israel doesn't "want Syria". At all.

At best/worst (depending on your read of the situation), Israel might use the Syrian instability to re-enforce the current disputed borders in their favour. But even that is somewhat unlikely to involve any significant big 'land grab' of Syrian territory by Israel.

If I'm wrong, well then I'll be the first to admit it and condemn Israel for acting like morons.

They’re literally backing Isis to take Syria.

Sure they put lipstick on the pig, but it’s still a pig.

Syrian rebels saying that they don't want hostilities with Israel doesn't in anyway, shape, or form equate to "Israel wants Syria" and "Israel taking control of Syria through this rebranded ISIS".

You are putting 2 and 2 together and saying it equals 10, Val Keating .

It all seems to be stemming from your misconception that Israel is actively supporting the Syrian rebels, and that they are somehow allies. This is factually incorrect.

The Syrian rebels have, reportedly, already attacked some of the DMZ "buffer zones" on the Israel/Syrian border, which has led to the United Nations UNDOF forces being re-enforced.

Israel has been pretty clear that they are not going to 'intervene' in the Syrian matter, except to ensure that the border remains secure.

In fact, many Israeli cabinet members have already made comments about how bad it is that "Syria is now controlled by subsidiaries of al-Qaeda and ISIS", and it is "far from being a reason for celebration".

So yeah... as I said, there's plenty of legitimate things you can (and should!) criticise Israel for. But this notion that they've allied with ISIS and are taking over Syria is... patently ridiculous to be frank.

You honestly believe that Israel isn’t supporting the rebranded ISIS?

This is so good to see.

Whilst I'm no fan of Islamist radicals whatsoever (two wrongs don't make a right, obviously), it is an undeniably good thing that Assad's regime is over.

It isn't just Syrians celebrating. Lebanese people are too because of what his father did when they occupied Lebanon. My uncle narrowly escaped after being kidnapped and suffocated by the Syrian Army. Unfortunately there were many other young men who didn't survive.

And yes, while I'm happy, I'm very wary of what’s to come for not just Syria but the region as well.

And Syrians can finally go home.

Yeah I know it sounds crazy, but it’s exactly what is happening

No, it's not.

Not in the way you're insinuating anyway.

Israel is no friend to ISIS. This should be common sense...

The Assad regime and Iranians/Russians in Syria were funneling weapons to Hezbollah, as well as offering protection and training for Iranian forces. This was obviously a significant security concern for Israel.
With Russia being kicked out of Syria and Hezbollah losing their primary means of receiving arms, Hezbollah has been significantly weakened, as their ability to self-produce rockets and weapons is extremely limited.

It's important also here to remember that although there is undeniably a big Islamic fundamentalist/ISIS/al-Qaeda component to the Syrian rebels, not all Syrian rebel groups are like this. You've previously alluded to the IDF arming ISIS, which didn't happen. They provided "light weapons" (ie rifles etc) to Syrian rebels specifically in the Golan heights in South West Syria along the Golan Heights border with Israel, because they were fighting against Hezbollah forces allied with Assad. These groups are are not the same as the ISIS/fundamentalists that were/are prominent in the North-East side of the country.

You gotta be careful lumping them all in together.

Yup, definitely.

We can worry about what happens next, but taking a moment to celebrate the ousting of Assad is a good thing.

Of course there are genuine rebels, Assad was a monster.

But you only needs to look at the leadership to understand what’s happening.

A man who beheaded people for fun a few years ago.

You're referring to the leader of HTS, Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani?

The leader of the same group that overtly celebrated the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel?

You think Israel wants to support and ally with that group?

Really?

I think you've gotten some wires crossed along the way on this issue and it's incorrectly influenced your understanding of the situation significantly. Suggest you take a step back and re-assess.

Russian "allies" havnt had a very good record of successful relocation flights recently.

I spent 3 weeks traveling through syria back in 2000. The people were very friendly and Damascus was lovely. I scencerely hope the next generation of them can return the country to a semblance of its former self.

Plenty of former Putin allies have had very successful relocation flights.

The problem is most of them start from the window of the 19th floor of buildings.

Pro-Putin "Syrian Girl" account, which has been staunchly anti Ukraine over the last few years because she supposedly was anti-war;

You’re adorable in your naivety.

It’s pretty simple,

Iran supports Hezbollah and uses Syria as a supply train, Hezbollah then supplies Hamas, both currently fighting off Israeli aggression.

The US has given air cover to the jihadists that have taken Syria to topple the Syrian regime, Jihadists have said they want peace with Israel and won’t support Hezbollah,

It’s not a coincidence
