That would be Ukrainian President Yanukovych, who was overthrown by his people after he ignored the will of his people and tried to sell his country out to Russia.

He fled to Russia and hasn't been heard from since.
Genuine question - wasn't Zelensky also elected on a platform of trying to establish closer ties with Russia? I might be misremembering but I thought that was something I'd heard before. It just seems like an obvious thing for Ukrainians to want (probably not so much anymore, after the events of the past few years) considering they're neighbours and have a pretty significant shared history.

You remind me of Kevin Rudd.

I met my wife on Kevin 07 election night, drunk out of my mind and ecstatically celebrating the end of the John Howard era :D

Depends on which part of Ukraine people are from. Those that suffered through the holodomor hate Russia more than we can imagine, that’s why they aligned with the Nazis in WW2, and honestly after reading about what they went through I can understand why they did. That’s something me and SLF clashed over a lot.

As to your actual question, I don’t know, but I doubt if Zelenskyy was pro Russian considering he wanted to join NATO. could be wrong, but don’t stress because I have my personal fact checker, crazypills, who’ll be along soon.

Well, if there was ever a hope of Ukrainians en masse wanting to be friends with Russia, Putin has certainly destroyed it.

My actual not-in-a-vacuum opinion about this conflict is that even though the specifics are complicated, the U.S.-lead western bloc made this kind of chaos inevitable when they spent most of the 20th century trying to destroy the Soviet Union. Would've been better for everyone if they'd stayed together.

BTW if you want to see the post that started the bad blood between Chad and I its here, along with him partially quoting/misquoting what i said to completely change the meaning of it.

Ironic that is what we all imagine Chad looks like during most of his conversations.

Its a threat of violence is it?

LOL thinly veiled, but yes. Unequivocally.

The fact is the only comeback we have to you constantly lying and ignoring it when you get called on, even doubling down like you did above is to call you the piece of human dog refuse that you are or some other insult.

I didn't lie.

Man, you're really bad at semantics, hey? I thought you said you "studied" them?

You absolutely and undeniably inferred that B4bear was a war criminal, using his service in the Australian Army out of context to discredit his arguments in support of Ukraine's right to defend itself.

It's all there in the link I shared for everyone to see plainly.

What am I gonna do - punch you in front of our kids at an AFLW game. That's the sort of shit behaviour I'd expect from you frankly.

I dunno. I'm not the one threatening violence though, am I? ;)

Typical of you lying about what someone says.

And I'm tired of you posting disguised and thinly veiled shit and thinking that it provides cover for the obvious actual context of what you're posting. You seem to take everyone else as saps. We're not.

Just like saying we are all responsible for the war crimes committed by the Australian Army (that includes you dickhead) is singling out one person who obviously didn't commit those acts themselves.

a) yeah, nah, "we" are not.
b) in the context of the conversation, yes, you were singling him out.

BTW My memory of that incident is that B4Bear started on me, I didn't start on him and what he said was hurtful and disturbing.

Yeah, nah.

His first ever post in this thread was this response to you, but it was contained to the issue. He played the ball, not the man;

1736414368658.png

Then, after a page of discussion where you were not involved, you chimed back into the thread with a post that is too long to screenshot properly here, but that included the following quote from you;

"I'm not a supporter of Putin. But he's not a monster like Saddam or Pinochet."
B4Bear then responded to you with the following, where the "meanest" thing he said was that "you are kidding yourself if you believe that";

1736414630199.png

And on and on it went... until;

For the record if he thought I was accusing him of war crimes then that wasn't my intention and I'm sorry that was the impression he got.

You're such a liar, and I can prove it.

He straight up TOLD you that he thought you were accusing him of a war crime, and instead of apologising "that was the impression he got"... you abused him more and threatened him with violence, which is clearly a pattern with you;

1736414952494.png

And this was back nearly three full years ago.

So spare me this holier-than-thou faux outrage that I am somehow solely responsible for this thread denigrating into arguments, when there is one common denominator who resorts to abuse, insults, and weird accusations of racism... and that's you, mate.

Take a good, long, HARD look in the mirror.

Even if the trans woman walks around the woman’s change room with their hog swinging?

Val, do you often walk around public bathrooms with your dick out?

When was the last time you were in a public bathroom and saw ANYONE walking around swinging their dick out?

Be serious.

Genuine question - wasn't Zelensky also elected on a platform of trying to establish closer ties with Russia?

Not quite.

Zelenskyy was elected in 2019 amidst a huge out-pouring of anti-Russian sentiment after Russia annexed Crimea and had been militarily supporting rebel factions in Eastern Ukraine.

Zelenskyy campaigned on three main issues; anti-corruption, repairing relations with Eastern Ukraine, and ending the conflict in this area.

It wasn't about trying to establish "closer ties with Russia" - Zelenskyy also campaigned pretty heavily on Ukraine's need to embrace the EU region in more trade, cultural ties, and partnership, which was seen as a (very popular) pivot away from Russia.

Not sure I agree there. Many people living in the former Soviet Bloc countries seriously appreciate and love being able to visit, see, interact with and generally form friendly relations and common goals with other parts of Europe. Things haven't been flawless (and the 90s were horrible) and there is still lots of progress to be made, but a lot of these countries are doing very well now.

I say this as someone who is a democratic socialist, former eurosceptic, and who generally thinks that western history exaggerates some (not all, of course) of the economic flaws of that system.

I've been made to eat humble pie. Not for the first time in my life.

That and no one misses the constant near miss nuclear events.

Local pools.

Sounds like you need to be on a register and should be kept away from children if you're walking around local pools just swinging your dick around in the change rooms.

It's not really the Soviet Union's fault they couldn't establish better relationships with other parts of Europe though, is it? You're describing some of the ways in which the western bloc iced them out and destabilized them internally. Blaming them for near miss nuclear events doesn't really seem fair either, only one country has actually dropped nukes on another one and probably would've kept doing it if the Soviets hadn't developed their own.

It was two way. So yes it was partly their fault. History panned out the way it did, they no longer exist, and lots of people in that part of Europe now enjoy better relations with other Europeans.

Funnily enough I don’t. But almost everyone does.

Are you ****ing with me? You’ve never gone into the change room at the pools and there’s dudes just full naked? Footy change rooms and all the boxing gyms I trained at were the same.

Surely you’re ****ing with me.

In a post-USSR world though, it's undeniable that the former Soviet-bloc nations that have embraced the EU or "the West" are the ones that have done the best in almost every conceivable metric;

Peace and stability.
Freedom.
Civil rights.
Economic.
Political stability.
Education.
Health.
Trade.

Look at Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia especially.

In the areas I have a lot of insight into, even a lot of the older generation who have a bit of nostalgia for those times, have been won over. It's genuinely heartwarming.

Well first things first, let's be clear; 'public bathrooms' and 'changerooms' are two separate things.

But I digress...

I'm in my local swimming pool change rooms multiple times a week, every week.

I played footy for years, then I played basketball, then I played baseball. I literally cannot count the number of times I've been in change rooms for sport.

Not once in any of those areas have people just been walking around naked, swinging their dicks around for the sake of it.

Is there nudity? Sure. But it's incidental and innocent. Most people keep to themselves when changing.

So again I ask; wtf kind of change rooms are you hanging out in?!

Yup, same.

My wife's family is "German", but for a long time they were more accurately referred to as "Eastern German". So I also have a lot of personal insight to the issue.

What's interesting beyond what we've already covered is how former Soviet-bloc states like Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are now also moving away from the Russian sphere of influence, and it's really got nothing to do with "the West" and everything to do with Russia acting like a global bully.

I don't know much about the Caucasus so got no idea there.

But from personal experience, some (not all, some in rural areas are seriously struggling) pensioners have gone from scratching together an existence and their only interaction with other parts of Europe being lucky enough to hear about it from someone they knew who was important enough to get there, to having enough income to be able to save for a cheap flight to visit a city they'd always dreamed of visiting and break down in tears at the sight.

So you don’t think that biological woman would find it uncomfortable if there was a woman with a penis showering next to them? My daughters are 11 & 13 and I promise you that they would feel very uncomfortable in that situation, so would my wife.

So you're quoting me saying I didn't call him a war criminal to say I called him one. I was pissed off at that point.

Now years later after reflection i'm sorry he felt that way because before this thread we'd always got on well, he always valued hios time in the army and its a pity it went to shit like that.

(BTW Who was the first person in that discussion to bring up the "say it to my face" bit? Not me.)

You on the other hand deliberately misquoted me so you could post a ******** gif.
