I'm quoting this here cos this fire situation could be talked about for ages.

These fires are driven by whats known as the Santa Ana winds. They are hot dry, strong winds that blow in off the desert in Nevada, Utah and Eastern California. There are predictions of ongoing winds over 120km/hr this week, whether that's gusts or regular wind I dunno. Lets assume its just gusting tho.

You wouldn't be able to use a helicopter in those winds, its too dangerous. Even if you could aiming and delivering the water would be very difficult. Its probably the same story with planes and pink fire ******ant is not much use in an urban area.

As Chad said just before, these fires are happening on the urban interface, what Americans call wildland/urban interface (WUI). If you look on Google Earth or some other sat photos at LA you'll see that not only is there this interface all over the place the bushland there is rough. There are canyons everywhere and this makes the localised wind conditions very unpredictable, especially as the heat from fires feeds back into the air flow. I've been at fires where on the edge of deep gullies, which are pretty much the same thing, the wind below was blowing in one direction up the bottom of the gully while we were (right at the top) it was moving in the opposite direction.

This sort of thing would be happening everywhere in that part of Southern California now.

Its only the places close to the very edge of the interface that are threatened by the actual fire but, just like here, embers will travel on the wind. Especially when its that strong. So fire could be spreading on embers for a kilometre or more away from the edge of their bushland. This is all compounded by the weed problem they have in California. Australian Eucalyptus trees are a weed in California, tho its already got enough fire prone natives. You know what they burn like here, and they're notorious for driving fires with embers. So they'll make a bad situation worse.

I walked up to the Hollywood sign once so yeh

lol Gibsons house burned down when he was on Rogan making up shit about ivermectin.

It's even better than that.

Rogan and Gibson were literally talking about how climate change isn't real... while a winter-wildfire exacerbated by climate change burned down Gibson's house.
