****ing lmao. fart warns of the dangerous consequences of excessive bean consumption.

Reminds me of Harry Truman's "We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex" on the way out. Ok, why didn't you do anything to address this malignant force in American politics while you were the ****ing president? Very similar presidencies in the end. Both had historic opportunities to right the course of the country, both were unfortunately just local shitkickers who rose far, far above their station after being picked for the vice presidency by much more talented politicians to ease the worries of the conservative wing of the party, fundamentally not up to the task before them.

Yeah, classic chief of police who retires and immediately says all drugs should be decriminalised.

History will not remember Biden kindly, and he doesn't even have the opportunity to redeem his reputation post presidency like that other Democrat oncer in Jimmy Carter*

This report from RT inside Kurakhove is fascinating. The Russians are advancing steadily through the Donbas, and took Kurakhove in the last few weeks.

It was an important defensive position for the Ukranians and they fought hard to keep it, but didn't manage the years long defence they did in places like Avdeevka. Its also right at the edge of Donetsk Oblast - opens the way to Dnipropetrovsk.

Its very rare that we get to see what the average Russian does, and here we do.

Obviously it is propaganda - it isn't designed to be objective journalism - but what's so interesting for me is how stylistically and in terms of format, it is absolutely identical to Western "journalism" when we go on foreign adventures in Iraq, Libya etc etc.

An embedded journo, the grateful civilians, the wrecked enemy gear* and their dead - this could be CNN following troops into Nasirayah in 2003.

Its actually uncanny how identical they are as pieces of content.

* You can see where the RPG hit the US supplied APC and absolutely wrecked it. RPG shot from an upstairs window and an advancing APC in an urban environment - the Russians lost thousands of guys that way in the two Chechen Wars, and they certainly learned the tricks of urban fighting as a result.

And I know what some will say, but I challenge those posters to name a time so much power was concentrated in so few hands?

Yes the trend towards corporate consolidation has been happening since the 80s. We saw the impact of businesses buying and merging with media companies. But there was also some level of competition

Now that media is dying. The new ‘captains of industry’ are the tech bros. And not only do they sell products they own the means of information. Henry ford never had that power.

Musk not only bankrolled a presidential campaign he shaped how people got their info. If he falls deeper into that khole, zuck will replace him.

The Koch brothers brought the republican party in 2010 via the Tea Baggers and then almost shut down the US government. They brought states as well.

Clinton delivered three consecutive surpluses in 98/99/00.

Deficit is a choice and one they can only sustain while $USD is the world's de facto reserve currency.

Their choice to weaponise that status via sanctions has led to countries recognising the danger of a USD denominated world.

I don't think BRICS is as powerful as many others do, nor do I dismiss it like others.

But one outcome of the Ukraine War so far is that Western sanctions absolutely have a limit and are survivable.

Russia's main economic issue is they are running their wartime economy too hot, not that the sanctions did anything.

They have numerous threats to their economy, obviously climate change is a massive issue.

Trump's economic madness can hurt them very badly.

Thing with the US is its sheer size, population and geography, means they can operate as a self sustaining unit if they want - they have all the energy, minerals and food they need.

Was it Bismarck who said God looks after drunks and the US?

Like, lithium is the new gold, of course they're finding huge deposits of across the US.

The real economic basket case is Britain, they're utterly stuffed.
They have to start producing to not end up of the last days of the Roman Empire, where their biggest export was manure.
One problem I see for the US if it does go all isolationist, is they have to restart supply lines again.
It’s going to be a monumental task, the quickest way posible would be enforced industry consolidation but that would would be completely against a capitalist ideology. How do you compete with China at manufacturing at present?

Completely agreed with UK, I think they’re were stuck trying to be Singapore to China, whilst watching the EU tear itself apart.

Going to be such an interesting ride the next four years.

I'm not an economist. The whole thing looks like rubbish to me. But I'm starting to think defecits don't matter. .... like ... where does money come from?
Yeah economics doesn’t make sense when you’ve only got one super power. I’m not sure the US is going to be able to keep the status of reserve currency anymore, Biden blew that game with the sanctions.

Yes, and it's still nothing in comparison to the current situation.

FDR did it, they just need a really big war.

Story of these threads right there. I'm surprised you haven't blamed Putin for Will Phillips glandular tbh.

Oh good. Please, tell us more about how great Russia is. That's what these threads have really been missing three weeks since your overly dramatic exit.
