pretty happy with that as a mid-priced team

EDIT: Also 40k left over

Bump?

Hi, all.

I'm relatively new to AFL and this is my first DT season . I'm from the States, so Bball is my thing - still learning the fine points of the Oz game.

Your thoughts on this team would be appreciated...

pretty good team if you're new to AFL.

Backs: Scarlett and Tarrant need to go. they don't get enough of the ball.

Mids: Decent, but i think you've got too many mid-pricers. Garlett may as well be a D. Martin (Rich) or J. Trengove (Melb) and save yourself some money.

Rucks: No Problems.

Forwards: Nicely put together; apart from Akermanis who at 33 is too old to pay 400k+ for (imo). I know he's ace and pretty durable but i think it's time in his fantasy career for us to start playing the odds. and the odds suggests his average will begin to fall off or niggling injuries will start to take their toll. i'd downgrade him to a Gray/ Rioli/ LeCras or similar priced player and use the money elsewhere.

Hey again Anzac. Nice looking team.

I think you could get even more out your backline by swapping one of Polkinghorn or Dangerfield to Mayne. You make some cash and could get some more certainty in 1 or more of the bottom 3 on the field in your backline.

Mayne won't get huge coverage over there but I am absolutely certain he will provide everything that you're looking to get out of the other 2 at a cheaper price. The good thing about him is that he is a willing and effective tackler so he doesn't necessarily need as much of the pill.

Also, in your Rucks, FWIW I'm one of the few who isn't buying the Tippet thing. He's played his best games up fwd and was effective, so he'll spend most time there I think. He hasn't had to deal with a lot of attention over a full season there yet so I think he gives really mixed results as a ruck this year.

Dual spec team.

Players that can swap positions:

Back/forward
In backs – Hurley, Moore, Davis
In forwards – Grundy, Hansen
Back/mid
In backs – Goddard, Carazzo, Gilbee, Greenwood, Ladson, Broadbent
In mids – Gram, Hodge
Mid/forward
In Mids – Goodes, Chapman
In forwards – O’Keefe, Pavlich, Higgins, Dangerfield
Ruck/forward
In Ruck – Tippett, Lobbe
In forwards - Petrie

Strategy: With this team I should be able to cover any zeroes throughout the year. To make money I will be downgrading or upgrading rookies like shuey, bastinac, trengove, martin, trengove. I want to keep phil davis and lobbe for their dual position elegibility. I will be upgrading based on value (eg: getting primo mids that have bad weeks, forwards like buddy, brown that are inconsistent, etc)
Should have plenty of trades left to win my league at the end of the year, and if teams screw people over at the selection table possibly even a shot at the win.
Thoughts?

One of these DP teams could really shake things up if the season plays out the right way.

For me i think you should be looking at Dangerfield and Broadbent as your keys for trading as you can switch them between their original positions and the midfield so you have a choice of where you want to upgrade (or downgrade) them. it lets you be more opportunistic when the elite players have a dip in form or when a downgrade target appears.

will Ladson be fit to start the season?
Chappy will succumb to hammies as always, so for mine he's too expensive. it could be a miracle year though.
Grundy, Greenwood and Hansen give good DP cover but will they improve enough scores-wise?

otherwise your team is pretty choice and is the closest to mine in structure i've seen in this thread. which must mean it's pretty freakin awesome.

Thanks, and I agree with you about chappy, I've just swapped him to sylvia (may go with Harvey also) so I can have about 80k in the bank for upgrades.

You're right about Grundy Greenwood and Hansen. They are just for cover, and I'm goping they will be good enough as 6/7th fwds/backs. Unfortunately Grundy and Hansen are almost must haves as decent backs/forwards are rare.

Thoughts on Waite or McPhee instead of Grundy or Hansen? Can anyone tell me if Waite will be good to go by round 1?

really unsure about my team and am liking it but not if you know what i mean.

BACKMAN: Enright, Fisher, Hodge, Shaw, Ellis, Kennelly, Ladson (Sheppard, Davis)

MIDFIELD: Gibbs, Selwood, Ward, Cotchin, Palmer, Trengove (Martin, Shuey)

RUCKMAN: Kruezer, Tippet (Warnock, Lobbe)

FORWARD: Riewoldt, Pavlich, Franklin, Gray, Ziebell, Polkinghorne, Dangerfield (Gumbleton, Dennis-Lane)

Had Pendlebury, Gibbs, Selwood and morabito on the bench so was Pendlebury, Gibbs, Selwood, Palmer, Trengove, Martin (Morabito, Shuey). What do you think is the better option?? And thought on my team in general?

Cheers

It looks awesome. Certainly.

But how exactly do you end the year with Gazza, Swan, Selwood, Gibbs, Corey, Bartel, Pendulbury, Boyd etc. etc. in your midfield?

Doesn't make sense... you'll end up trading out premiums for them won't you? I can't make it work in my head at least...

Unless you're happy with backs and forwards filling your midfield. Whereas i prefer midfielders to fill my backs and forwards. Not the other way around.

Guess i just don't get the usefulness of the new rule change besides covering an injury in a very rare occassion where say none of my midfielders are playing but both my forward rookies are...

I can upgrade trengove and Martin to guns. Also, If I like, I can say sub dangerfield for goodes, then trade danger to a gun. Or sub Broadbent for Hodge then trade broadbent for a gun mid. Essentially this is my strategy, sub out my mids to the cheap dual specs to trade for gun mids.

Rise up stiffy, have fun trading to get ABC and Swan into that midfield. You can't do without those players later on in the season. Paul Chapman has to be the worst pick ever, unreliable and ridiculously expensive. Petrie is suspended, Lachie Hansen plays KP (still can't believe he was taken at 3) and Heath Grundy has very little improvement in him. Average lineup mate.

I completely revamped my structure

Comments? And compared to my old team for those of you that can be bothered. Cheers.

P.S ditched Kreuzer for Tippett because i had 3 carlton players, and traded MacDonald for Harbrow who looks the goods this season.

I've swapped Chappy to Harvey (I agree with you on Chappy), Grundy for McPhee and Hansen to Henderson. ABC? Welcome to 2 seasons ago. You can do very well with 2 of ABC and swan. Petrie is suspended for 1 game. My team will smash yours as I will have all 20 trades for downgrades and upgrades.

can you really do that, i was under the preception that you could only sub for the game and then they go back to thier regular positions, do you have a link that states the way you explained it is the way its actually going to happen

Read the team help and info on the dream team website, I couldn't copy and paste it but it clearly states that you can sub dual position players and save a trade.

Me and my best mate go head to head each year.

These are our final team (Barring rookies of course....)

MINE - ALPHA MALES

BACKS:
Goddard, Fisher, Hodge, Macdonald, Suban, Kennelly, Hunt (Sheppard, Davis)

CENTRE: Selwood, O'Keefe, Cooney, Swift, Wells, Trengrove (Morabito, Bastinac)

RUCKS: Ottens, Hille (Warnock, Lobbe)

FWRDS: Riewoldt, Goodes, Pavlich, Franklin, Waite, Ziebell, Dangerfield (Dennis-Lane, Walsh)

MATE - GIMP

BACKS:
Goddard, Grimes, Adcock, Lake, Hurley, Surjan, Malcescki (Maguire, Shepheard)

CENTRE: Bartel, Hayes, Vince, Rich Scully, Trengrove (Morabito, Cunnington)

RUCKS: Sandilands, Hille (Skipper, Vardy)

FWRDS: O'Keefe, Lynch, Kennedy, Tippet, Dangerfield, Veszpremi, Watts (Daw, Gumbleton)

My worries are the fitness of Wells and Waite. I'm thinking about Lachie Hanson as a replacement for Waite with an upgrade of Wells OR A sideways move of Waite > Rioli/LeCras. Thoughts?

My mate would like thoughts on Watts and the kids like Veszpremi, Dangerfield and the idea of running with a mid range forward line for flexibilty.

Backs:
Duffield, Gilbee, Hurn, O Brien, Polo, Suban, Kenelly (Sheppard, Davis)

Midfield:
Cross, Ray, Hodge, Ball, Trengrove, Martin (Morabito, Shuey)

Ruck:
Jolly, Kreuzer (Charman, Warnock)

Forwards:
Goodes, Pavlich, Lecras, Tippett, Hahn, Williams, Dangerfield (Moore, Gumbleton)

Thoughts?

I should clarify Bball as Basketball, not Baseball.

Really getting into cricket here, too. What a fine game!

Tarrant and Scarlett as key position defenders are poor choices - look for players that are classified as defenders but actually play in the midfield - ie Goodard, Hodge, Enright

But a very good first attempt :thumbsu:

Congrats on a new approach Stiffy. You'll cop shyte for it but I'm sure that won't bother you.

I'm interested in it but not convinced. Are you getting too caught up in flexibility? In the end these guys need to score more than other teams regardless of where you can sub them too.

I also think that you're overestimating the trades that you'll save. Maybe I'm missing something, but moving Hodge back from the mids and then upgrading B/bent still requires you to cash in someone and then use the cash on the upgrade.

You obviously don't need to explain it to me or anyone but those are my thoughts.

Once again, although not a convert I love the new approach and I for one hope you light it up.
