I don't think that is right...I think if we got Jacobs it would have been at the expense of Rawlings going to the dogs for pick 6...and then us on-trading pick 6 to Essendon...a friggin stupid idea.

It's happened, Essendon got Alvey and #6 from the bulldogs. Not sure what the doggies got from hawks though.

...

words fail.

Firstly we manage to pull out a reasonable outcome by making sure we let the dogs know that do the right thing by us and Rawlings is free to be taken in the pre-season.

Then we TOTALLY screw it up for a jobber like Jacobs.

How many bloody hbf's do they want at the club?

Sickening.

I think our board members must drink too much during trade week. If the Hawthorn Football Club can't be serious, then maybe neither should the supporters.

I've been Proud, Passionate and Paid Up for the last 30 years AH,
and I too am at a loss to think why they have traded Pick 6 for Jacobs,
but it won't stop me from being a member for the next 30 years, and
being at every game I can.
You may not always agree with 'em, or like what they are doing, but
as long as they wear the brown and gold, I'll be there.
Is that serious enough for ya??;)

Hear! Hear!

Exactly my sentiments.

I have supported Hawthorn since 1968. Like yourself, I have always been supportive of the Hawthorn Football Club, no matter what they elected to do.
Today, however, just demonstrated to me that our club struggles to match the cunning of other clubs in the areas of trading and recruiting.
It concerns me that we are going nowhere, and in some cases going backwards.
Loyality is a wonderful thing, but there are things our club can be doing to be more successful, and we are not doing them.
We have draft picks 6 and 10 in our grasp. Can you imagine the talent we could have secured with these picks? But then we threw them away for Jacobs and Croad. Not good business.

Phew...I was starting to think we might have lost you, AH!!
Yes, we have lost the plot a few times on trading, but the same team who
concluded todays trading are the same team who have got us the likes of
Mitchell, Hodge, Ries, Williams, Osborne, etc...hell, who would have thought
some guy from the Amatuers would develop like Vanders has??
All I'm saying is that there have been as many good ones as ordinary ones, and they are only ordinary in hindsight. We can back and forth now until the cows come home whether we should have got Croad ( I agree with),
Beaumont (I don't agree) or Jacobs (I don't think I agree - would have liked
an early draft pick!) - but that's our lot, and time will tell whether it's been wise. Was Hodge for Croad wise?? I think most Hawk supporters would say yes!
Put pen to paper and do up your best 22 for next year now, and see who you have left out. That might suggest whether we are now better off (I'm not
suggesting one way or the other, mind you!).

I personally think we traded quite well given the circumstances. Croad is a good player, who just couldn't perform in another state away from home. He always considered himself a secure player at Hawthorn which probably resulted in average performances in 01. Having realised that he is not untouchable i think he will perform at Hawthorn for the rest of his career, the trading period of 01 was a huge wake up call

As for Jacobs, i think it was the only move possible, and i'm glad to see the Hawks playing hardball on rawlings and managing the deal with the dogs. Bad luck Jade, thats what happens when you are disloyal, NO DEAL!

As for trading pick 6 for Jacobs, i dont think the Draft is that strong this year, and Hawthorn really isn't at a rebuilding phase, even hodge who was pick 1 hasn't completely hit his straps yet, so pick 6 would probably be a good player in 3 to 4 years, we can't afford that with our ageing KPPs, so overall it was the better move. We need a premiership in two years, and besides Jacbos is only 23 years old, and Croad 24 for that matter, they are not gone by a long shot

Great to see that Hack Loats traded, beaumont should bolster the defence, he still has 4 seasons left in him at age 28. He also played 22 games last season, so obviously he is injury free, unlike the K Hunter selection, which was supposedly supposed to bolster the back half.

Overall good trading Hawks

Plenty of depth now:

Best 22:

B: Osborne - Hay - Beaumont
HB: J.Smith - Barker - Hodge
C: Barlow - Mitchell - Bateman
HF: Lekkas - Holland - Lonie
F: Williams - Thompson - Vandenberg

R: Everitt - Ries - Crawford

IC from: Clarke, Ladson, Croad, Picioane
Dixon, Jacobs, C.Brown, Tallis, Graham

Will be fierce competition for a spot in the 22,
especially if we have an injury free year.

Get Croad, Jacobs and Brown on the field. The above team is rediculous.

Not a bad side, but it still begs the question: "Who is going to kick goals?". There's just not enough in our forward lines to put pressure on the scoreboard, and that is what has been letting us down for years.

We simply lack a forceful and penetrating CHF. Holland is injury prone and is rarely there when we need him.

Maybe, just maybe, somewhere in our ranks there could be a player, or a rising star, of the ilk of Brisbane's Brown - forceful and penetrating. Nick is far from being such. Never has been really.

The three main goalkickers at the end of the season were Thompson, Williams and Lekkas.
Towards the end of 2003 you could put a blanket over 15 other players only averaging about a goal a game. So I based my team on RECENT FORM, which correct me if I'm wrong was winning form.

So couldhavebeenbutneverwas if my team is so
ridiculous let's see your team.

Hawks best team for 04!

B : Bateman Hay Jacobs
HB: Osborne Croad Smith
C: Lekkas Vanders Hodge
HF: Barker Holland Barlow
F: Dixon Thompson Williams
FOLL: Everitt Crawford Mitchell

Int: Brown, Beaumont, Ladson, Ries, Cox

Emerg: Piciaone, Lonie,

When are we going to get rid of Tallis and Clarke?

Hawks_Jt, that team looks about right.

I would like to still see Cambell B on the ground.. But looking at that backline, it looks good.

Defences are the building blocks for silverware guys... And we look better in those regards than since Ayresy/Collins/Langers/Mew patrolled the backhalf.

There is also a bit of versatility, in that Croad and Jacobs can both move forward if needed to pinch-hit. Remeber also that our ruckman has kicked a few goals in his time....

I think our recruiting guys have done a fair job. The general consensus is that we are in the right area to at least challenge for a flag. There is no point going for spec draftees at this stage. We needed to try and correct the issues that we have had in the last few years, which is namely a lack of backup talls to cover the loss through injuries of our main players (Thommo/Hay/Holland/Barker). We have done that. With the great impovement of our midfield this year, and a fit Spider Everitt, we have the building blocks to be contenders.

The best draw in many moons also gives me hope.
